Objectives
. To make sure students are not vulnerable to any accident or injuries.
· Promote a sense of safety.
· To make sure students are capable of managing incidents and assessing casualties.

What is First Aid?
· First aid is the first and immediate assistance given to any person with either a minor
or serious illness or injury, with care provided to preserve life, prevent the condition
from worsening, or to promote recovery.
What is a first aider?
· A first aider is someone who has undertaken training appropriate to the circumstance.
They must hold a valid certificate of competence in either first aid at work, emergency
first aid at work or any other training or qualification that is appropriate to the
circumstance.
What is a First aid station?
· A first aid station is the place at an event where people can go for medical treatment if
they become ill or injured. A basic first aid station should contain a plan to access the
ambulance if needed, someone trained in Cardio- Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and
a basic First Aid Kit containing a minimum of: compresses, ice packs, bandages and
antiseptics.
What is a First Aid Kit?
· A First aid kit is a box, bag or pack that holds supplies used to treat minor injuries
including cuts, scrapes, burns, bruises and sprains. It can also include survival supplies,
life- saving emergency supplies or items of convenience.
What is an accident?
· An accident is an unintentionally caused event. In most cases, the term is used to
reference to unintentionally caused negative events. Below is a picture showing different

·An injury is damage to your body. It is a general term that refers to harm caused by
accidents, falls, hits, weapons and more. Below is a picture of an incident:
What is an emergency?
· An emergency is an urgent, unexpected and usually dangerous situation that
poses an immediate risk to health, life, property or environment and requires
immediate action. Below shows a picture replicating what an accident looks like:
Ways to eliminate accidents
· Keep an orderly workplace. Poor housekeeping can cause serious health and safety hazards.
· Continually cultivate a safety standard in workshop.
· Take breaks and move around regularly throughout the day.
· Inspect vehicles before and after use. Drive Safely!
· Pay attention to workstation ergonomics.
