Mode of energy transfer

Illustration
Q. A gas is compressed from 6dm3 to 4dm3 against constant external pressure of 3 atm find
work.
Illustration
Q. 10L of ideal gas is expanded against constant external pressure of 1 atm such that 20 atm-L
work is done by system. Find final volume.
Illustration
Q. 2 mol of ideal gas at 2 atm, 270C is compressed isothermally against constant external
pressure of 4 atm so that final volume becomes half of initial volume. Find work
Internal energy (E or U)
Sum of all kind of energy of constituent particles in a system is called internal energy.
First law of thermodynamics (FLOT)
This law is based on energy conservation.
According to this law energy can neither be created nor be destroyed but one form of energy
can be converted into other form.
Illustration
Q. A system absorb 20 J of heat and it does 2 Cal work. Find change in internal energy in Joule.
Illustration
Q. A gas occupies 2L at STP when it is provided 300 J heat, its volume becomes 3L against
constant external pressure of 1 atm. Find change in internal energy.
