THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Background of the Study

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has drastically affected not just the

global health but most certainly the world's economy. Before COVID-19, travel

and tourism had become one of the most important sectors in the economy

essentially in the Philippines since it gives odds in terms of economic progress in

the specific place; as well as the source of income for most people. However, as

the pandemic started everything seemed shaking, panic in people’s eyes was

greatly seen, and implementation of the new government’s policy, specifically

Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) was strictly observed even up until the

present. It is devastating to think that it gives people the sense of lack of freedom

and living with no choice but to follow. These circumstance unfortunately has

brought not only practical social distancing but also economic distancing and has

put the world economy in threat. In this study, it is address to a certain issue in

the place of Bohol, specifically Cabilao Island which is located in the Municipality

of Loon for their travel inconvenience. In a devastating kind of situation today,

technology is the only hope to save the economy. The use of "Cabilao

Passenger's Tracer System Using QR Code," is that the adversities and

difficulties in terms of travelling that have always been experienced would be

stopped or be avoided at least. And Tracing passengers/victims who are in a

certain pump boat if accidents happened. Technologies are vital aids for the

valuable monitoring and control of disease outbreaks since people cannot

manipulate on their own. Thus, this system would greatly help people to have

faster, convenient and travel by just screening the QR Code; it would

automatically be noted with no hardships. The greatest functions of this

application are: it is not time-consuming, can surely maintain the safety protocols

since the writing of names on the piece of paper is changed through screening of

QR Code and most importantly it will easier to trace up the victims if ever their

accident happens. Regardless of the increasing numbers of vaccinated citizens,

risks of infection are still inevitably present. Tourism for instance is the most

affected of all, therefore in order to help uplift the economic status, the "Cabilao

Passenger's Tracer System Using QR Code" is the perfect tool in these times of

pandemic. Today, the demand for tourism and travel is gradually opening in

selected places; one of those places is Cabilao Island. Traveling is one of the

ways in which the people in Cabilao can buy their consumptions and necessities,

and make a living. Thus, it is essential to provide effective and convenient

transportation. It is important to look beyond rather than in creep to be affected

by the virus; this is just a trial of life that can be fixed at the end of the day. This

crisis is an opportunity to rethink tourism preparedness and be more progressive

for the future. Tourism is at a crossroads and the measures put in place today

will shape the tourism of tomorrow. Governments need to consider the longer-

term implications of the crisis, while capitalizing on digitalization, supporting the

low carbon transition, and promoting the structural transformation needed to build

a stronger, more sustainable, and resilient tourism economy.

COVID-19 has resulted in millions of confirmed cases and hundreds of

thousands of deaths worldwide. It has been declared a global pandemic by the

World Health Organization. The negative impacts of COVID-19 are

unprecedented and pervasive at a variety of levels, extensively spreading from

individuals and institutions to public authorities. Because of this pandemic many

applications developed to have an easy and safe process.

A QR code, also short for ‘quick response’ code, is a black and white,

square-shaped image that provides access to more information quickly from their

devices. People can scan the QR codes with their smartphones to learn more

about a product or service. These encrypted symbols can even hold links,

discounts and vouchers.  Most smartphones have the technology to read QR

codes, which are built into their camera apps. Users will point the camera at the

code, and an option to open the link will appear on their phone screen.

Alternatively, you can download a QR reader through the device’s app store. 

According to Mehmet Emek on his study entitled “Usage of QR Code in

Tourism Industry”, he concluded that technology and tourism are two areas that

people involved in their daily life today. His study identified the usage of QR
codes in various areas in tourism. Another part of his study will investigate the

potential of awareness of QR code usage among tourist visiting Istanbul will be

explored.

In the field of education and communication QR code is also useful. It is

proven in the study entitled “QR CODES IN EDUCATION AND

COMMUNICATION” by Dr. Gurhan DURAK, E. Emre OZKESKIN, and Dr. Murat

ATAIZI, conclude that it is possible to argue that augmented reality applications

offer novel interactions between human and environment using mobile devices.

The ubiquity of information systems dilutes the boundaries of electronic and non-

electronic tools, devices and environments. The era of information societies

requires processing, transmitting and storing more data and information in an

increasing trend. QR Codes can contain more information when compared to a

regular barcode. Digital equipment like camera equipped mobile devices and

related applications lead the proliferation of QR Codes. On the other hand, the

printed or the paper-based materials are still essential for deployment of

information like books, newspapers, research papers, letters etc. Using QR

Codes on printed materials like course books may enhance the attractive and

elucidative aspects of printed materials.

In field of health, according to Ting Lei1,2, Jiaxin Deng1, Yubo Xie2, Yibo

Tian3 to their study entitled “Using Health QR Code to Fight Against COVID-19”

they concluded that the health QR code promoted by China during the epidemic

is of great significance to the prevention and control of the epidemic. Just like the
credit status of a person, the health QR code attaches more and more value to

the health status of a person. Especially during a public health emergency, it

constructs a national citizen health information supervision network, which will

have more and more value of application and digital empowerment. In response

to the severe epidemic in China, the health QR code has an obvious positive

effect.

Also, in the field of public transportation QR code is very useful to help

people to have faster and convenient travel. According to C. UPENDRA

REDDY1, D.L.S. VARA PRASAD REDDY2, Dr N. SRINIVASAN3, ALBERT

MAYAN J3 to their study entitled “BUS TICKET SYSTEM FOR PUBLIC

TRANSPORT USING QR CODE” they stated that their project would be valuable

to general society who are looking with the present issues. The Proposed

framework would empower the general population to have the ticket for

movement in metropolitan and for the most part open transport, in addition, the

printed material will be decreased and loosing of the card is additionally wiped

out. It would guarantee the minimization of tedious and cash issues like change.

Further, the subtle elements of the ticket of each traveler are put away in the

database alongside conductor points of interest which are followed by the

administrator.

Dr. Keshetti Sreekala1 and R.Sai Kiran Reddy2 also stated in their study

entitled “An Online Ticketing System using QR Code for Public Transport” that all

researchers have aimed to develop and provide a generalized solution to monitor

the various works that are carried out by public transport users for automation of

various tasks. They provided up to date information of the system which

improved efficiency of public transport record management. In existing systems,

in most of the public transport system a ticket generation and issuing is a step by

step lengthy time taking process. Person has to approach authority like a

Conductor or reach ticket counter for ticket. Then the conductor will issue ticket.

If he loses a ticket then there is no other chance or backup for the ticket, if he is

caught, he must pay the fine. In this system, initially the user has to sign up and

give the details. Then he must choose the source and destination point, he can

also choose no. of passengers, then the fare regarding his travel is displayed and

when he enters to generate the QR code a unique code is generated. A unique

QR code is generated at every time of approval. This QR code is later scanned

by authority or conductor and it is verified.

Significance of the Study

Cabilao Passenger's Tracer System Using QR Code will/can be an

effective way to transform the used-to-ways or the manual process of travelling

into a more customer-friendly and easier to adapt.

The researcher has a deep conviction that this present study would

become beneficial to the Island to provide a free-hustle and more convenient

system; hence it would go a long way to provide advantages to the following

sectors.

Study findings would give the people in Cabilao Island a clearer

perspective as to the adoption and implementation of this system. In accordance

to safety protocols, this would help the community to be more adaptive to a

more high-tech ways of entering-and-passing to a certain place to be travelled to,

like Cabilao Island. Cabilao is sometimes termed to as ‘far from civilization’ place

but still people from Mainland areas still want to have a glimpse and explore the

island.

The result of the study aids the passengers not to be burdened and feel

bored during onboard. The implementation of this system allows them to travel

easily, fast, and in a convenient way. They can surely arrive early. Furthermore,

this study would provide them the information that they need to ride a pump boat

without further ado.

This present research helps the government or the officials to suppress

issues in terms of sea transportation and not be irritated by the complaints and

negative feedback from the people in the community. This allows them to be free

from stress and indeed, they will also support the said system through enhancing

and spreading it to other places.

This study allows the operators and owners of the pump boat to have a

stable job. In terms of an accident, the system can automatically trace the

passengers involved if there is one. Also, their business will grow because of this

convenient ride, and technically, this is the only way so the people in Cabilao can

go to the city. To the owners, it helps them to widen their business and can give

not just the convenience and easy ways to reach and leave the island but most

importantly, it will give the passengers the assurance itself.

 This study helps the readers to familiarize the procedures of the

transactions and operations involved in the application. 

The study serves as a reference for the future researchers interested in

conducting similar studies taking other areas of concern not covered in this

present research undertaking.

Objective of the Problem

In order to improve the tracing system in Cabilao Island, researcher is motivated

to conduct a study which aimed to:

1. Provide easier and faster tracer system for the passengers both of

residents and outsiders.

2. Let the people in Cabilao adapt the technology that exists today for less-

hustle system.

3. To follow the protocols implemented and maintain the safety of everyone

through at least the help of Cabilao Passengers’ Tracer System Using QR

Code.

4. Most importantly, it will help authorities trace who are in a certain pump

boat or the passengers to be exact. If ever there are incidents of

accidents, it will be easier to trace up the victims.

Research Methodology
Design

The research design addresses the present problem of the people in Cabilao

Island as the pandemic is still here and they want to travel for important purposes

without fear and secure their safety from the virus. The Municipality of Loon, as

well as the owners of the boats that travel to Cabilao Island, are essential to

support the passengers' safety as they encounter an increasing number of cases

in Covid-19. The designers of this study also include the need for limitations of

numbers of passengers to have safety while traveling and to easily trace the

passengers in case of accidents while traveling using QR code so that the

Municipality of Loon will be alarm immediately and also to apply the application

and test if the application is effective and functioning for the continuous travel

from the Cabilao Island Vice Versa and it will make the passengers feel secured

and safe from virus and accident. To prove the functionality of the application, as

well as the effects of it on Cabilao Island and the passengers, there will be

questionnaires to know if the application is effective.

They should answer the following questions:

1. Is the application useful to Cabilao Island? 

2. Does the application improve the safety of the passengers?

3. Do people need to limit their numbers for traveling?

4. Do people feel safe while using this system?

Instrument

The researcher will use a survey questionnaire to recognize how beneficial the

software/application is. The information wished for the examination can be

accrued through the use of a survey that incorporates the respondent's score for

the effectiveness of the software/application. The questionnaires are

comprehensively and directly delivered for a much effective response given as

required. The questions can be performed in each Passenger of Cabilao Island.

Procedures

The application may be created for numerous months for the motive of its issue

and uniqueness. It will be difficult to expand the application so patience and

staying power are essential to make it successful. The study will be conducted

during the year 2021-2022. Data wished for this study can be accrued through

the usage of a survey questionnaire. Necessary permission can be secured from

the proprietors of the Pumpboat. After the allow is granted, the researcher will

ask questions to the Passenger of Cabilao Island to behavior the examiner to

keep away from biases withinside the examination. This study can be carried out
