Lifelong learning is an opportunity to acquire the holistic development of a person such as the
knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values. It does not focus only on the acquisition of knowledge but
includes the total well-being of a person. Lifelong learning happens throughout one's life, from
childhood through adulthood and can happen formally or informally, even under a papaya tree, as
mentioned by Professor Clarita Carlos. It is essential on my part as a teacher to be a lifelong learner for
me to equip myself with the 21st century attributes that are beneficial in fulfilling my roles and
responsibilities toward my students. Now that we are dealing with the 21st century learners and with
the advent of the new technology, we do not allow ourselves to be left behind and we need to embrace
these changes as we provide a quality and relevant education to our students. As the saying goes, we
cannot give what we do not have, so it is our task to develop within ourselves the 21st century attributes
needed. Also, being a lifelong learner will open us to bigger opportunities to be promoted as we
enhance ourselves personally and professionally.

This idea simply means that learning can happen anywhere we go. Learning is not limited only within the
four walls of the classroom but extends in the community, our family, workplace and even within
ourselves. Lifelong learning includes more than what occurs in the classroom as it develops our holistic
being, that includes not only our intellectual process but also all other areas of a person's life. We can
learn things from our experiences. As we socialize with other people in the community and in the
workplace, we learn from every people we met, as to how we perform at work and how we deal with
our colleagues.

The top 3 habits of highly effective people by Steven Covey which I consider to suit me as a lifelong
learner are as follows: be proactive, put first things first, and seek first to understand, then to be
understood. With my baccalaureate course, Psychology, this helps me understand different personalities
and allow me to be resilient with the different changes that may happen in my life. I deeply understand
and accept the fact that there are some things in life which we do not have control over with and that
needs our flexibility. When things do not turn out as to what I want it to be, then I just think positively
and just go with flow. Also, as a teacher and at the same time a student, I make it sure that I manage my
time well and I know my priorities. Furthermore, I am the type of person who listens not only by my ears
but also by heart. I see other people's lives without judging them.
