Topic Title: Physical Development of High School Learners

Activating Prior Knowledge

Share your real-life experiences on this aspect of your adolescent period:

 Physical or biological growth whether this was slow or fast, smooth or by spurts.
- My real-life experience as an adolescent is apart from acne and a change in body odor,
the maturation of the genital organs, or puberty, is the most noticeable physical change
that occurs in teenagers.  Increased body hair, the appearance of breast tissue, and
rapid growth are all physical changes that females go through. Nevertheless I can
conclude my self as a slow biological growth as I am in this stage of my life but my
height is still cute.

Pre-assessment

What are some puberty changes that happens to a teenager? Write at least 2 changes
depending on your gender.

1. Breast Development; Breast "buds," nickel-sized lumps under the nipple, are the first symptom of
puberty in most girls. It's not uncommon for one side of the breast to start growing before the other.
Breast buds are frequently painful or uncomfortable. Uneven breast growth and pain are quite natural,
and they normally go away with time.

2. Increase in Height; Most girls have their growth spurt at a younger age than boys do. The fastest rate of
height growth usually occurs in girls between when breast buds start to develop.

Learning Exercise

Define adolescence:

It refers to the stage of life where you transition from being a child to being an adult. During
adolescence, some people become extremely self-conscious. By that, changes may occur for
physical and biological of a child.  Physical maturation most clearly distinguishes adolescence
from childhood.

Give the three specific ages of this adolescence period:

1. Early Adolescence occurs between ages 10-14. During this developmental period, adolescents experience
the beginning stages of puberty. Both sexes experience significant physical growth and increased sexual
interest.
2. Middle Adolescence (Ages 15-17), puberty is completed for males and females.
Physical growth slows for females but continues for males.
3. Late Adolescence/Young Adulthood (Ages 18-24) Adolescents in the late
adolescence/young adulthood phase typically experience fewer physical developments
and more cognitive developments.
Application

Cite at least 3 ideas from this module, then give a reason why each of these ideas is important
for the positive growth or development of an adolescent.

Big Ideas from the Module Reasons why these ideas are important for
the development of adolescents.

1. Puberty Changes It helps to know about the changes that

puberty causes before they happen. That
way, you know what to expect. It's also
important to remember that everybody goes
through these changes.
2. Having accurate knowledge of adolescent
Adolescence development is critically important because
beliefs about youth influence perceptions
and treatment of young people
3. Self-Esteem It matters because it helps you develop
coping skills, handle adversity, and put the
negative into perspective.

Evaluation

Reflection: Write your realizations on this module.

From this module, I realized that….

The adolescent years are the most essential in a person's life. We all go through life differently
and have completely distinct paths and experiences that may or may not happen to everyone.
It's as if we're on some long-distance journey with numerous highs and lows just to identify or
find ourselves. We are preparing for the adult years ahead of us throughout this time. My
emotional development during adolescence was a rollercoaster. When life comes in and throws
barriers in your lane, I went through a lot of things from an early age that absolutely developed
me into becoming a stronger person. My emotional development during adolescence was a

Activating Prior Knowledge

Share your experiences about the following which relate to cognitive development.

1. The grades you received (and possible awards and recognition) and their effect at home
and school.
- When in terms of grades and recognitions doesn’t totally matter to me, but yes, I was
once become a grade conscious because I just wanted to pass my subjects, and I can’t
deny that I was an honor student in my elementary and secondary. Nevertheless, it
doesn’t affect from my home and school as long I am just doing my best that I can, and
its not big deal to my parents of what I’ve got because they just want or let us do what
makes us enjoy and no pressure.

2. Any involvement in projects or extracurricular activities (e.g., IT research, workshops,

planning, and discovering, etc.) and what cognitive processes were involved in these.
-I believe it belongs to overachievement process, which Overachievers may have better
work habits, show more enthusiasm in schoolwork, be more consistent in completing
assignments, and be more aware of their grades and performance. In comparison to
"typical" achievers, they demonstrate greater accountability, awareness, and planning.

planner, an organizer, or a leader?

- Perhaps this could be a great contribution as we can develop our cognitive thinking
skills, and Cognitive abilities are used to solve issues, remember tasks, and make
judgments, and we encompass some of the brain's essential activities such as thinking,
reading, learning, retaining knowledge, and paying attention.

Application

What were the improvements of your thought patterns during adolescence comparing these
with those of your elementary school days?

- Honestly, as I become an adolescent right now, there were many patterns that changing
throughout the way how I think and decide. It is commonly known that when we’re
young, the functions of our minds is just mainly focused to happiness, enjoyment,
peers, and so on. However, when I got hit with my adolescence stage, I’ve always
thought if I was somebody then were I can’t define myself now, I became more practical,
mature, and I am prefer of being alone than being with someone who couldn’t make my
thought peace. As I grew older I became more practical, but I cant say that most of
adolescence is being like that because it matters on how you look into your life, your
mindset and even the experience you’ve been encountered that changed your life, and
that me, the difference between my younger self then now.

Evaluation

1. Define overachievement.
From my own perspective, it is the way or the process by which an individual can be
able to do so such over tiring and multi-tasking works, or it was the granted
achievements by doing such amazing deeds. And those with the drive to complete tasks
above and beyond expectations and who set very high career goals for themselves.

2. Define underachievement.
- Underachievement as the discrepancy between an exceptional result on testing, and
actual performance, which does not compare against the expectations for students of
the same capabilities and achivements.

deeper.

Pre-assessment

1. What social activities do you think are (i) good for teens (ii) not good or that prevents
socio-emotional growth?
For me, perhaps they can go to educational trips, so they may develop social skills.
Educational trips are not only a great way to help teenagers explore their interests, but
they also offer ample opportunities to interact with new people. However, social
activities that is not good for teens is sometimes being with wrong companions, their
peers which cannot make them grow their socio-emotional growth that even sometimes
can lead them to commit a wrong doing.

2. As a future teacher, what would be your attitude to teens in your class?

Well, I can’t really imagine my self as a teacher in the future because I don’t have an
interest, but if I would become as a future educator, I would rather stay calm, teach
them what they needed to be learned and do not pressure them at all cost. As for me, I
want a natural ambiance surrounds me that I couldn’t be stress someday.

- Powerful, uncontrollable emotions are one of the key catalysts in Shakespeare's "Romeo
and Juliet"; love, hate, wrath, infatuation, and outrage are all present in the play and
have a direct impact on the tragic events that occur. As we know, the emotion is
uncontrollably that can provoke an individual.
