Philippines is one of the fastest growing population country, which leads also to a growth in

housing demand. There is approximately 2.5million housing units needed and only 500,000 –
600,000 is supplied. The Philippines is one of the world’s most disaster-prone countries.
Disasters are typically followed by a demand of resources, including the need for housing.
Government, has established coping mechanisms with their experience with disasters.
Government has integrated disaster risk reduction into national and local government
development planning. It’s a strategic approach to disaster risk reduction and an essential
component in the development of plans for Philippines. This allows us to understand how
natural hazards in and around urban areas interrelate with present and future urban growth,
and ascertain what suitable methods based on policies, investments and its capacities) can be
undertaken to encourage development.

The after Yolanda typhoon housing project, implemented at June 2015 in the province of Capiz.
Which also served as emergency shelter.

Many people affected by the typhoon, and already suffered. In additional to the average 20
typhoons, many Filipinos are now again is experiencing hardships in socially and economically
due to COVID-19 restrictions.

As of now, the government is focused on the quarantine facilities. In Capiz, the Department of
Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed four (4) new healthcare facilities in Capiz.
According to DPWH Sec. Mark Villar, these facilities can also function as temporary shelters for
the vistims of natural calamities, disaters and other emergency situations.
