Mangyan is a Philippine ethnic group that lives predominantly on Mindoro Island, while some also
inhabit on the Romblon Province islands of Tablas and Sibuyan, as well as Albay, Negros, and Palawan.
Any man, woman, or individual, regardless of ethnicity, is referred to as a mangyan. They share modified
Iberian ears, large features, and straight noses, as well as an overall resemblance. Somewhere in their
ancestry, they have European, most likely East Indian blood.
The indigenous peoples of the southern Philippines known as Lumad did not convert to Islam before the
arrival of the Spanish. The Bisaya name LUMAD, which means “native” or “indigenous,” was chosen by
15 Mindanao ethnic groups in their Cotabato Congress in June 1986 to distinguish themselves from
other Mindanaons, whether Moro or Christian. Lumad culture encompasses a wide diversity of
languages, chants, rituals, dances, and other traditions.
Igorot—any of numerous ethnic groups living in the highlands of northern Luzon, Philippines, who all
practice or used to practice their traditional religion and way of life. Some live in the tropical forests of
the foothills, while the bulk survive in the harsh grassland and pine forest zones further up. Skin tones
range from light to dark brown. They usually have straight hair.
