A. Engagement 1. Review

Last meeting, you learned that there are some types of beneficial interactions
among living things. Can you describe again those type of beneficial
interactions?

Class this time, you will perform an activity. You will be grouped into three.

2. Game. The Sear Is Over

Discuss your assignment the previous day about the pairs of living things
interacting in the environment. Write at least five pairs of organisms on your
data table. Give the type of interaction and its description.

3. Guide Questions

-What pairs of organisms did you find in your environment?

-What can you say about the relationship existing between each pair?

-Are these relationships beneficial? Why?

B. Exploration 1.Recall of standards in performing an activity.

2. Ask pupils to perform Lesson 41: LM Activity 1, Is It Harmful?

C. Explanation 1. Allow time for the group presentation.


2. Give feedback after all the groups have presented their outputs.
3. Discuss the answers to the different guide questions:
Birds and Worms
-What do birds do with the worms?
-Do worms get something from the birds?
-What organism benefited in the interaction?
-Which organism is badly affected?
-How can you describe the interaction between the birds and the worms?
Aphids and a Rose Plant
-What is an aphid? What do aphids do with the leaves of roses?
-What will happen with the leaves of roses?
-Which one is badly affected?
-How can you describe the type of interaction between the aphids and the
roses?
Lions and a Buffalo
-What animals are involved in this type of interaction?
-Which organism s badly affected?
-Are there interactions among the lions?
-Will they be affected with their interaction with each other?
-Why is this type of interaction among lions harmful?
-Since lions compete with each other to get food, how are they called?
-How can you describe the type of interactions among these lions?

Based on our activities, how can you describe the interaction that exists
between the birds and the worms? Aphids and a rose plant? Lions and a
buffalo? What may happen due to this type of interaction? Why? Do these
types of interactions also happen to us? How would you feel if you were hurt
by your playmates? Why? How we should live our life?
D. Elaboration/Extension 1. Activity. Greatest of Them All
Say: I’m going to divide you into three according to your talent. Those who
are good in music, I will call your group Mighty Predators, those who are
good in speaking will be group Great Parasites, and those who are good in
drawing will be group Powerful Competitors. You will prepare the assigned
task for 10 minutes then prepare for a short presentation.

Group Mighty Predators

Title of the Activity: I Can Sing My Victory

Compose a one-stanza song to the tune of any popular song about the concept
learned.

Group Great Parasites

Title of the Activity: I Can Shout My Fate

Prepare and present a jazz chant about the concept learned.

Group Powerful Competitors

Title of the Activity: I Can Paint My Life

Draw and present a drawing showing harmful interactions.

V. EVALUATION Select at least five pairs of organisms. What relationship do they have? For
the organisms which are paired already, just write these organisms in the data
table and give also the type of relationships and its description.
VI. ASSIGNMENT Visit your community. Observe and write at least three harmful interactions
among living things that you could find.
