LESSON PLAN-FORM-2
Prior Knowledge: Pupils are familiar with other punctuation marks. E.g., full stops, commas,
question marks, exclamation marks...
Transitional Statement: Today we are going to look at hyphens and how they are used.
Development:
Step 1: Teacher explains to class what is a hyphen.
FORM2A-4 October4th, 2022
Step 3: As a whole class teacher presents sentences and students (individually) correct the
form of the word.
Assessment: Pupils will construct four sentences using hyphens to join parts of a compound
word.
Conclusion/Evaluation: Pupils say what are hyphens used for and when its used. Using hyphens
to link multi-word but single entities (such as compound adjectives and compound nouns) make
your text easier to read, and it showcases your writing skills.
A hyphen (-) is a punctuation mark used to join the separate parts of a compound word. A
hyphen is a joiner.
A hyphen is used:
To join the words of a compound adjective (e.g., "five-page" document)
To join the words of compound noun (e.g., "cooking-oil")
To join a prefix to a word (e.g., "re-examine").
