FOREWORD

Thanks to God that eventually this book is completely composed. This book is expected to
give a reference for English learners to acquire English acquisition especially integrated
skills, such as, speaking, reading and writing. Moreover, this book offers the learners to
practice the patterns of English by doing some exercises and substitution drills. With the
strategy of repetition on the same pattern by pronouncing various vocabularies, it is
expected that this book is one of the references for English learners to do practice actively
either with or without their teacher. The other section is beyond practice, is the exercise
section to enrich learner’s English vocabulary out of the subject matter provided in each of
units. At least but not last, this book is still far from perfection. Furthermore, some
critiques and comments are widely opened to evaluate the strategies and the contents of
this book.

Best Regards,

The writers

READING

Mike Loves Cats

Mike has been volunteering at the animal shelter since he was ten. He has loved
animals for as long as he can remember. Cats are his favorite, but Mike enjoys playing
with all the dogs, rabbits, and ferrets, at the shelter, too.
Lately Mike has been seeing more kittens being dropped off at the shelter. Seeing all
these animals without a home has made Mike unhappy. It is hard to find so many animals
safe and loving places to live.
Mike has been thinking about telling his friends and neighbors all the homeless
kittens and the other animals at the shelter. He has written a short speech and has created
some posters to explain how people can adopt a pet.
Mike has raised some money from a lemonade stand that he plans to donate to the
animal shelter. Mike has been hoping that if he can tell enough people and raise enough
money, maybe there wouldn’t so many animals in cages.
