“SAVING MR. BEING”

GOING GREEN BY REDUCING OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT

A GREEN STORY WRITTEN BY TIMOTHY KAMUZU PHIRI FROM THE MIZU MINDSET FACTORY

Starring: Costumes for 4 students & 1 adult:

- 2 capes and 2 Superman t-shirt
Tony Potts as Mr. Being
- Big coat with pockets (for putting
Yishu as real Wonder Girl litter)
Josh as real Superboy
Props: Litter bin(s), plastic water bottles
Ingrid as Wonder Girl
and other rubbish, shopping basket (from
Gabriel as Superboy Timothy), plastic cutlery, a newspaper.
Timothy as the human conscience Litter - including plastic water bottles, and
other rubbish.
Jake as drummer
Christian and Andrew - Rappers

Somewhere in the universe on a planet called earth:

Conscience: (yawns loudly and sits reading a newspaper, when he feels and hears the
ground shake like an earthquake struck. Set up a spotlight on him.)

Loud noises...drumming
Conscience: What is that?! Let me check.
Mr. Being: (rolls in to thunderous drumming sounds...6+ heavy/ loud drum beats)
Conscience: Who are you?
Mr. Being: My name is Being (menacing deep voice)
Conscience: Being? What kind of name is that? Being who?
Mr. Being: Human being, but you can call me Mr. Being!
Conscience: Whoa, human being nice to meet you. You definitely seem to have a lot of
power. Where does it come from?

Mr. Being: I was created and born like this! You want me to show you my power?
Conscience: I don’t know, it’s kind of scary….but yes, go ahead show me your power…
Mr. Being: (steps forward to earth shattering footsteps…drummer does 3 footsteps)
Conscience: Oh, my goodness, where does that come from?… How can one person have so
much power!!?

Mr. Being: ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! (menacing laugh) I am the most powerful being of them all,
and I use my power any way I want…I cut down trees, litter the forest and streets, I make
and use plastic, I ignore all litter bins!!

(Power rap song...)

“No one being should have all that pow-er, not if you can’t control it.
Going around destroying the planet, Oh no we ain't allowin it.”

Conscience: That doesn’t sound right, you will destroy the earth with all that mis applied
power!

Mr. Being: Well I don’t care, I do what makes me happy! (hahahahaha menacing laughing)
Conscience: Oh dear, we are going to have a problem here! I need to call for help…oh yes
let me call Superboy!! (gets phone and calls Superboy) Hello is this Superboy?

Superboy: Yes, this is Superboy (deep confident voice)

Conscience: Where are you?
Superboy: New York! Where my home is.
Conscience: I need your help…the planet needs your help…Mr. Human Being is destroying
everything here on earth. Come and help change his “mindset”. Can you come here to
Leopards Hill Lusaka, Zambia?

Superboy: We-e-llllll, I will be there in 5 seconds!!

(Superman glides in with swish sound and spotlight)
Mr. Being: And who is this? What do you want?
Super Boy: I am here to save Leopards Hill and the Earth….You must stop using your power
to destroy the Earth…use it to save the Earth.

Mr. Being: Never!! (hits his chest…three times to loud drum thuds!!)

(Power rap song...)

“No one being should have all should have all that power, not if you can’t control it.
Going around destroying the planet, Oh no we ain't allowing it .”

Superboy: You must change one step at a time, otherwise destroying the Earth means you
will eventually destroy yourself! Step forward.
Mr. Being: (three loud earth-shaking drum footsteps…whilst littering - have items in
pockets)
Superboy: Do the right thing…. pick up the litter and put it in the bin and watch your heavy
carbon footprint begin to reduce.
Mr. Being: Picks the litter and puts it in the litter bin…
Superboy: Step forward…
Mr. Being: (takes three foot steps….but this time the sound reduces in strength)
Superboy: You see your carbon footprint is reducing!!
Mr. Being: Okay! Okay! Okay! Fine! (grumpy voice) ...but you won’t stop me from using
plastic bottled water!!

Conscience: Oh my!! We need more help….I think we should call…hmmmmmm….who can

we call….oh yes! Wonder girl!! (calls Wonder girl) is this Wonder girl?

Wonder Girl: Yes it is….how can I be of help?

Conscience: Well, where are you?
Wonder Girl: Somewhere in Mfuwe saving a few pangolins and other wildlife!!
Conscience: Well we need your help here in Leopards Hill Lusaka, Zambia… Mr. Human
Being is being very stubborn and he will destroy the earth and all of us if we don’t change his
mindset!! Can you come and help us?

Wonder Girl: I will be there in….2 seconds… (Wonder Woman glides in with swish sound
and spotlight)
Mr. Being: And who are you?
Wonder Girl: I am a guardian of the Earth here to help you change your ‘mindset’.
Mr. Being: Here we go again...
Wonder Girl: You must stop using single use plastics and plastic water bottles…here use a
permanent water bottle instead and watch your heavy footsteps become lighter….

Mr. Being: Hey wait a minute…I do feel lighter….

Wonder Girl: Step forward….
Mr. Being: (takes three steps forward….and the drumming footsteps become even
lighter….)
Wonder Girl: You see you are reducing your carbon footprint and becoming more
eco-friendly….

Mr. Being: Yes, yes! I can feel it…. I am becoming lighter…. What else can I do to become
even lighter!!?
Superboy: Use your very own shopping basket when you go shopping…
Wonder Girl: Don’t buy plastic bags when shopping, carry a recycled shopping basket!
(Wonder Girl hands Mr. Being a basket.)

Mr Being: (takes very light steps…. soft violin sounds) …

Conscience: Thank you Superboy and Wonder Girl for changing Mr. Human being’s mindset
set….

Conscience: (goes into the closing narration…) These are the real superheroes in real life…
Real Superboy: (steps up shows with his Superman t-shirt inside his shirt and picks up litter
and throws it in the bin!)

Unless we change the way we think…none of these problems are going anywhere…. the
power is in the mind…points to the head!! (nodding…Everyone on stage does the same
pointing to head and nodding)

Conscience: These are the real superheroes in the real world…….

Real Wonder Girl: (steps up gets her plastic water bottle… throws it in the bin and picks her
reusable water bottle!)

The power to do the right thing is right here…. the mind is our real super power….she
points to head and nods….(we all join in nodding)

Conscience: the power boys and girls ladies and gentlemen is in your mind and hands….let’s
make AISL and Lusaka a better place let’s make it plastic free with minimal waste!!

Conscience: And here ends the story…(Conscience begins to walk off stage)
Plot twist!!
Real Superboy: Wait a minute Mr. Phiri ….We are not done yet….
Real Wonder Girl: Yes…we need to talk about taking care of ourselves and the animals as
well…
Conscience: You see…. I told you these are the real superheroes….
Conscience: Closes with the final narration on taking care of ourselves….and the AISL

We all walk off to violin music escorting and supporting Mr. Being!
