What it is to be human?

Are we human just because our flesh and blood? Our DNA and particular organs? Or are we humans
because our feelings, our personalities, and our ability to reason? That’s the debate we will have,
supposing robots get personalities.

It’s not likely to happen instantly. At the beginning this should be an early stage: maybe IA still with a
programmed task and behaviors, but with and added sense of humor, manners, etc. to make the
interaction feel less “artificial” for the user. However, when this continues to evolve, we will probably
end up with robots that develop their own feelings, sensations, desires and decisions outside of their
original programming.

When we reach that point the discussions will to start. Shouldn’t this IA have their own rights? What
makes them different to us if they act and feel like a human in practice? As soon as robots want to start
their own life, see themselves claiming for a law that includes them. When something or someone
different appears in the society, first they are excluded and discriminated, and then these kinds of
discussions arise. Of course, like with all these situations, it’s going to be a long process. What will the
outcome be in this case? I wish I knew.
