INTRODUCTION
1.1 INDUSTRY PROFILE
Sakthi Sugars Limited is one of the pioneer and largest company in Sugar Manufacturing. It
produces High Quality white sugar, raw sugar, refined sugar, industrial alcohol, ethanol, power,
soya products and bio-earth. Renowned for its quantum and quality of products Sakthi Sugars is
also a niche market player in sugar, alcohol and soya business. The power plant promotes
significant usage of renewable energy sources using bagasse, a fibrous sugarcane residue as its
primary source of power production and coal as its secondary which is used for supplementing
the deficit of bagasse. Further the process of power production also fosters energy recycling. The
steam extracted from Turbo Generators is diverted towards sugar processing and distillation of
alcohol.
Since these power plants contribute to the generation of electricity and also provide necessary
steam energy for industrial application they are termed as Co-Generation Power Plants. The
aggregate power generation capacity of all three cogeneration power plants is put together 92
MW.
Industrial Alcohol is manufactured from Molasses, viz. super fine quality of Rectified Spirit,
Extra Neutral Alcohol / Neutral Spirit and Ethanol are produced by the Distillery Units of Sakthi
Sugars Limited deploying advanced multi pressure distillation and multi optional fermentation
plants.
The Anhydrous Alcohol (Ethanol) plant which was commissioned in the year 2003 within the
Sakthi Nagar Unit has an installed production capacity of 50,000 Ltrs per day.
It may be noted that because ethanol is blended with petrol, crude oil import is minimized. Hence
domestic production of Ethanol can significantly contribute towards saving the foreign reserves
of the country. The Products are Rectified Spirit, Extra Neutral Alcohol / Neutral Spirit, Ethanol.
A division of Sakthi Sugars Ltd., Sakthi Soya’s owns one of the best Soya Processing plants in
Asia. The plant has the capacity to process 300 Tonnes of Soya Per Day (TPD).
The Molasses is the by-product separated from 'C' grade sugar during the centrifuging of sugar
crystals. The yield of molasses per ton of cane is in the range of 4 to 4.5%. The entire quantum
of molasses produced is being used for captive consumption in our distilleries.
The Bagasse is the fibrous residue from the sugar cane after extracting cane juice. We produce
1
Steam and Power by using bagasse as fuel for the high-pressure boilers in the Cogeneration
power plants.
Press mud, the solid waste produced while processing sugar cane is rich in potassium, sodium,
phosphorous and organic matters. Press mud is also a base material for producing bio-earth
which is done by composting with spent wash, a liquid- waste generated out of distillery
operation. It combines the world's best technology from Switzerland and Germany and
innovative flash desolventising system to manufacture high-protein soya flour. Composting is a
biological oxidation process by which a mixed microbial population in warm, moist, aerobic
environment decomposes organic material. During the process, degradable organic substrate
undergoes chemical and physical transformation to give a stable humified product. The product
is of value in agriculture both as an organic fertilizer and as soil improver. The benefits of the
importance of recycling organic wastes is being recognized. The Bio Earth energizes the
microorganism in the soil by providing early nitrogen, enhancing nutrient availability, increasing
water retention, and providing colloidal nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, Sulphur and
micronutrients.

Industrial Alcohol in the year 1972 at Sakthinagar, Tamil Nadu and at Dhenkanal, Orissa in the
year 1996. These two distillery plants, undisputedly the largest in their respective states, have an
aggregate capacity of 150 KLPD Industrial Alcohol.
1.3 INFRASTRUCTURE
Sakthi Sugars Limited is one of the largest producers of white crystal sugar in the country
accounting for a capacity of 19,000 tons of cane crush per day (TCD).
In coherence with Sakthi Sugars' continued effort to enhance the efficiency of production many
initiatives have been put to practice time and again to enrich the quality of production process to
unmatched standards. Some such initiatives are listed below,
Scientific farming.
Continuous R&D in sugar rich, pest resistant and high yielding sugarcane varieties.
Mechanization of cane harvesting.
Efficient Sugar manufacturing process to reduce sugar loss.
Ensuring cleanliness and hygiene at their best in factory sites.
Auto Setting Mill facilities.
Energy Saving Schemes like planetary gear boxes, Automated cooling and condensing
system, vertical continuous pan, etc.,

produce high quality sugar by processing Raw Sugar using conventional equipments. It is one of
the very few Sugar Plants in Orissa state operating for more than 120 days in a season.
In the year 1994 it pioneered the processing of raw sugar to produce high quality white sugar
using conventional equipments in India.

Nadu. The combined capacity of power production of these plants is 92 Mega Watt. After
meeting the power requirements of the sugar plants the excess power generated is exported to the
power grid.

VARIOUS DEPARTMENTS
3.1 PRODUCTION DEPARTMENTS
Sugar is a carbohydrate that occurs naturally in every fruit and vegetable. It is a major product of
photosynthesis, the process by which plants transform the sun's energy into food. The natural
sugar stored in the cane stalk or beet root is separated from rest of the plant material through a
process known as refining. The basic process is Sugar cane must be crushed to extract the juice.

CONCLUSION
This institutional training gave me the practical experience about the Production of Sugar and its
functions. It helped me to know about the management terms which I have learnt theoretically
and where they are practically applicable in the organization. It gave me an experience to learn
about how to deal with the potential and loyal customers of any organization. Also, I have
learned from the company that, simply handling the queries of the customers is not important. It
must be socially beneficial to the company as well along with the satisfaction of their customers
through their untiring services. The primary Moto of SAKTHI SUGARS is to provide valuable
services to their customers to satisfy them rather than making huge profits out of it. On the whole
this Internship was a wonderful experience. I have got a lot of practical insights into the
professional practices that are currently advocated in the SAKTHI SUGARS. I have learned
