DESIGN STATEMENT
The proposed development consists of six new residential buildings as part of the wider Greenwich
Millennium Village development.
The site is split into two zones, Hornlink Way forms the Southern and Eastern boundaries to the site
of blocks 107 & 206-210 with Pear Tree Way forming the Western boundary. To the North the site is
bounded by the first phase of the development (blocks 106 and 109). Block 103 is further North,
adjacent to block 104 of the first phase.
The design proposal for the superstructure is a reinforced concrete frame with flat slabs wherever
practicable. This solution has been chosen because of the residential usage, the number of storeys in
the building and to minimize the size of elements being delivered to site.
Please see the accompanying design philosophy statement for further details and rationale on the
design of the structure.

SUBSTRUCTURE
Each of the buildings has been modelled in ETABS analysis software and the foundation loads
extracted (these loads include the wind element from the stability design covered later in this report).
These have been hand checked by way of an area load take down for typical columns.
Pile caps have been designed using a combination of SCALE and the TCC concrete design
spreadsheets with the worst case caps being designed. Unusual load arrangements or geometry has
been designed individually.
The following pages cover the Foundation loadings and the design of the pile caps.

STABILITY
The wind loadings and notional horizontal forces have been calculated for each block within the
ETABS design package.
An additional typical block wind loading analysis has been carried out using the METSPEC design
package.
The following pages cover the ETABS and METSPEC wind loading analysis and the design of the
vertical elements.
