INTRODUCTION
The project comprises of construction of Pump House & Sump for kalimela micro-lift
irrigation scheme at malkangiri, odisha
The intent of this document is to record all the relevant assumptions and technical
criteria for the structural analysis and design of the building. The object is to achieve
flexibility, durability and economy without sacrificing safety.
LIST OF CODES
A. Loading
IS 875: Part 1 Dead Loads
D. Design of Foundations
IS 2911 Indian Standard Code of practice for design &
Construction pile foundations: (Part- I)- Concrete piles
LOADING PARAMETERS
a. Self-Weight
Self-weight of the structural members will be calculated on the basis of the following
properties.
Imposed Load of 10 kN/m2 is applied on floor and 1.5 kN/m2 is applied on roof.
c. Seismic Loads
Importance factor I =1
For RCC Members, Limit State Method will be used as per IS 456-2000
Minimum grade of concrete shall be M-25 for Pump House & M-30 For Sump.
High Yield Strength Deformed bars conforming to IS: 1786 with Fy = 500 Mpa will be
used as reinforcement.
Ductile detailing norms will be adopted to make the building earthquake resistant in
accordance with the relevant IS code (IS-13920).
Following Load combinations were used for Pump House structural design.
The foundation design is based STAAD Model analysis data. Other Relevant data is
obtained from soil investigation report. The type of foundations adopted are Isolated
Footings.

n = av/d = 0.357
Putting above values
(z/d)2-(n/(m+n))z/d + (m/(m+n))n2 = 0

Check For Vertical Shear
c max = 3.1 N/mm2
Hence, ce = 2.69 N/mm2
Shear Capacity of concrete = ce bd

Design Philosophy
A) Footings/Raft
Analysis tool used STAAD-Pro
Designing tool used M.S Excel
Analysis-Design data
Footing /Raft is designed critical upflift & Base pressure due to HFL. Raft structure is
modelled in STAAD and pressure is applied. Analysis results obtained from
STAAD were used to Fix economic and safe sizing and reinforcement required for
raft design in M.S. Excel. WSM is used for design of Raft and tank structure is
also checked for Flotation against HFL level.
B) Counterfourts
Analysis tool used STAAD-Pro
Designing tool used M.S Excel
Analysis-Design data
Counterforts are modelled in STAAD as beam element to carry loads from
Plates. These counterforts are designed for critical bending moment , Axial
compressive force and Lateral shear. Working Stress method of design is used
for design of counterfort.
C) Beams
Analysis tool used STAAD-Pro
Designing tool used M.S Excel
Analysis-Design data
For each type of Beam, Design Load combination envelope data is obtained.
The obtained data is used for design of beam using M.S. Excel and Working
Stress Method of Design
D) Walls
Analysis tool used STAAD-Pro
Designing tool used M.S Excel
Analysis-Design data
Plate stresses are obtained for each unit meter and results are sorted for Critical
Bending moment,Axial Stress and shear stress. These sorted results are used
for design in Excel using Working Stress Method.
E) Slabs
Analysis tool used M.S Excel
Designing tool used M.S Excel
Analysis-Design data
Using Exel tool for given loading condition and support availability analysis results
are obtained, for the same data design is provided using Limit State of Design.

Diameter of steel bar used 16 mm
Spacing of steel Assumed 100 mm C/C
Minimum Area of Steel Assumed 0.24 IS 3370
Part 2
Thickness of Plate required for max Bending Moment =[M/(Q*b)]^0.5
= 239.44 mm
Thickness required for Tension and Moment =
M x 6/(bt x b) + (T / (2 x t x b))2 + T / (2 x t x b)
=0 mm
Hence minimum thickness required = 239.44 mm
