1.1 Scope
This document covers the analysis and design of 350 KL ESR at Mundiya,
Dist.-Khandwa, Madhya pradesh with 18 m staging height. This document is prepared on the basis of Contract document.
All design work will be based on Indian Standards (IS) codes (Latest revisions), with amendments,if any, as on date.
Apart from these codes, specific design guidelines laid in the contract documents are followed.
The design is carried out in conformity with following IS codes latest editions.
IS : 875-1987 - Code of practice for Design Loads for Building and Structures.
(Part- 1 & 2)
IS : 875-2015 - Code of practice for Design wind Load for Building and Structures.
(Part- 3)
IS 13920:2016 - Ductile detailing of reinforced concrete structures subjected to seismic force - code of practice.

SP : 16 - Design Aids for Reinforcement and Detailing.
IS 11682 : 1985 - Criteria for Design of RCC Staging for Overhead Water tanks.
All units in the analysis and designs are SI system unless noted otherwise.
350 KL ESR at Mundiya, Dist.-Khandwa, Madhya pradesh with 18 m staging height will be a
Reinforced concrete Intze water tank, supported on column/beam staging ( Height of 18 m) resting on Raft Foundation.
The internal diameter of the tank 10.25 m and is supported on ring beam, which is supported on coulmn resting on raft.
Top Dome slab supported on ring beam.Total height of tank 3.75 m which consists of a liquid depth of 3.25 m and
free board of 0.5 m. Dead storage of 0.1 m. Bottom Dome slabs spanning between ring beam column arrangments.
STAAD PRO software is used for analysis and in-house Excel sheets are used for design.

4.0 STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS
4.1 Modelling
ESR walls, base slab & roof slabs are modelled as Plate Element in STAAD PRO with staging. Bottom of columns
are considered fixed at foundation level. Foundations are modelled and designed separately using nodal loads and
moments obtained from STAAD model at bottom of columns. Staging is modelled with beam element. Stiffness
of the staging for seismic base shear calculation is obtained through a separate model consisting of
staging alone.
The structure is analysis using STAAD-PRO. Walls, cover slab, Base slab and foundation are designed using in-house
developed spread sheets. All RCC memebers like walls, Roof slabs& beams, Base slabs & beams, submerged columns,
ring beams etc. of the container are designed as un- crackd sections as per IS: 3370 (part-2). However, staging columns
are designed by limit state method, tie beams, plinth beams and foundation is designed as per IS:456-2000.
a) Dead load
Self weight of slab
Roof Finish/ Water treatment = 1.50 kN/m2
b) Live load
On cover slab and Gallary = 2.00 kN/m2
On staircase = 3.00 kN/m2
c) Wind load
Various parameters for calculation of wind loads on structures are determined on basis of IS: 875- 2016 (part-III),
following parameters has been considered for wind calculation
Page 5
d) Seismic load
The seismic analysis of the ESR will be carried out as per IS: 1893 (part II) -2014. The design horizontal seismic
cofficient Ah for the structure will be determined using following parameters
Seismic Zone = III
Zone factor = 0.16
Damping = 0.05
Page 6
5.0 STRUCTURAL DESIGN
Design is based on the worst possible combination of various loads, moments, and shear resultant stresses in the tank
in following cases.
Tank Full
Tank Empty
Uplift pressure if any
Peripheral wall is designed for the following loads
Hydrostatic test condition - Water depth up to full height of the wall (including free board)
5.2 Foundation
Foundation for the structures is decided based on loading arrangement, load intensity and soil strata. Design of
foundation dependent upon the safe bearing capacity at that level and on the basis of recommendation furnished in
the Geotechnical Investigation report.
Design forces and moments are obtained from STAAD-Pro analysis and checked for bearing capacity, overturning
and sliding. Bearing Capacity is increased by 25% for the all load combinatin with wind/seismic. The foundations
are designed as per limit state method as per IS: 456 -2000.

When earthquake forces are considered, permissible stresses are increased by 33%.
Hence, hydrodynamic pressure in this case does not affect container design.
