URBANISM
DAY 1
AUGUST 15

12:00–13:00 Introduction to the Workshop

13:00–13:30 Axis Exercise

This consists of arranging the terms on two Cartesian
axes based on ‘Old’ vs. ‘New’ and ‘Practical’ vs. ‘Vision’.
After completing the arrangement of the words, each

WORKSHOP
group presents their map and indicates why certain
terms are located where and what groupings and trends
have emerged.

13:30–13:50 Refining Vocabulary Exercise

With people acquainted with the terms and having
mapped them in a way that avoids characterizing them
as a ‘list’, during the second exercise groups will
commence shortening, refining, and filling ‘gaps’
in the vocabulary through a series of tasks.

13:50–14:50 Peer Review Exercise

A process of contributing terms to other topics
by rotating from table to table.

AUGUST 15 — 16
14:50–15:00 Conclusion of Part 1

15:00–16:00 Break

16:00–16:30 Structure Exercise

Groups reorder the vocabulary into clusters of related
topics within each theme, avoiding presenting the
vocabulary as a ‘list’, focusing on the hierarchies that
have been created between the terms and the
connection between conceptual and practical terms.

16:30–17:30 Cross-referencing Exercise

As terms did not always fit neatly into their themes,
groups will identify which terms have linkages to other
themes, creating cross-disciplinary linkages between
the four topics.

17:30–18:00 Summary of Part 2 and Day 1

19:00–20:30 Discussion of the Day 1
