REFLECTIVE ESSSAY

From this reflection, I would like to discuss on the strengths and weaknesses that I had
identified from the lesson plan, teaching aids and microteaching presentation.

One of the strengths that I had identified is conducting various types of activities. On my lesson
plan, I had planned activities such as listening, playing bingo and watching video. Having multiple
activities could also involve pupils actively on teaching and learning process which leads to better
understanding. I had chosen gap-filling exercise for listening activity because it helps the pupils to
listen more attentively in order to understand each word. Thus, their pronunciation and
understanding the meanings of the words could be improved. Besides, during the microteaching
presentation, we had a good class control. This is very important in order to get the pupils‟ into the
lesson”. One of the ways is by keeping them occupied with activities such as remedial and
enrichment. We also pick a pupil before or after asking a question to control the class.

Teaching aids also played a strong role on our microteaching. We had planned and prepared
our teaching aids well to make sure that we do not exceed the time allocated for each stage.
Moreover, teaching aids also helps to make lesson more interesting and enhance a better
understanding. Other strengths are the instructions given for each activity was clear. Instructions
are very important because it informs pupils on what they have to do. While the activity is going on,
we walk around the classroom to observe pupils’ activities to guide pupils who need assistance.

On the other hand, I had also identified some weaknesses. One of the weaknesses is I had too
much activity planned for one hour lesson. Before planning the activities, it is important to analyse
the amount of time that will be consumed. Besides, the text I had chosen for while listening stage
was too long for primary year 3 pupils. The audio and the text were quite complicated and more to
advanced pupils level. Thus, it is inappropriate to be used on classroom with different level of
proficiency.

There are some improvements could be done to improve the outcome of a microteaching
presentation. One of it is design lesson plan with fun and engaging activities. This will help pupils to
be actively engaged into the lesson so that the lesson would be more meaningful. Besides, for a
better lesson plan, I need to check on the curriculum and curriculum specifications so that my
lesson objectives will be collateral with what that has been provided. Before designing a teaching kit
or planning an activity, I should consider the pupils thinking of context, ability to understand and
level of proficiency. I should discuss the text given to the pupils to check whether they did
understand or not on what they listened.

Overall, from this microteaching presentation, I had learned that teachers need to identify the
knowledge and skills that they want pupils to acquire, choose a suitable teaching approach and
provide classroom lessons that will enhance learning and keep pupils motivated.
