Activity no. 6: Identifying and Eliminating Fake News Online

Instructions: Search from the library books, journals, or websites for the guidelines used in
identifying fake news online. Personally share some tips or insights on how to eliminate or avoid
fake news online. Support your research work with citation of your references/sources.
Check the source: Is the information coming from a reputable and credible news organization or
source? If not, there may be a higher likelihood that it is fake news.
Look for verification: Has the information been verified by other reliable sources? If not, it may
be fake news.
Consider the motive: Why is the information being shared? Is the goal to inform or to
manipulate? If the latter, it may be fake news.
Check the facts: Are the facts in the article accurate and supported by evidence? If not, it may be
fake news.
Use critical thinking: Don't take the information at face value. Use critical thinking skills to
evaluate the information and determine its credibility.
Some additional tips for avoiding fake news online include:
Following and trusting reputable news sources
Being skeptical of sensational headlines and overly emotional content
Checking the date of the article to make sure it is current
Seeking out multiple sources of information to get a well-rounded perspective
Not sharing news without verifying its accuracy first.
