water at this temperature.

4. Calculate the hydronium ion concentration of each of the following solutions


whose pH values are : (i) 7.52 (ii) 0.00 (iii) 2.50
5. Calculate the hydronium and hydroxyl ion concentrations in
(i) 0.01 M HCl (ii) 0.005 M NaOH solution at 298 K

6. Calculate the concentration of hydroxyl ion in 0.1 M solution of ammonium


hydroxide having Kb = 10-5.

7. Calculate the per cent ionization of 0.20 M solution of hydrocyanic acid,


HCN. K𝛼 for HCN = 4.9 × 10-10.

8. At 298 K, a 0.1 M solution of acetic acid is 1.34% ionized. What is the


ionization constant K𝛼 of acetic acid ?

9. Calculate the concentration of H3O+ ions in a mixture of 0.02 M acetic acid


and 0.1 M sodium acetate. K𝛼 for acetic acid is 1.8 × 10-5.

10. Calculate the pH value of (i) 0.001 M HNO3 (ii) 0.01 M NaOH

11. The solubility of Sr(OH)2 at 298 K is 19.32 g L-1 of solution. Calculate the
concentration of strontium and hydroxyl ions and the pH of the solution.

12. Assuming complete dissociation, calculate the pH of the following solutions


:
(i) 0.003 M HCl (ii) 0.002 M HB (iii) 0.002 M KOH (iv)
0.005 M NaOH
Arrange these in the decreasing order of pH value and assuming complete
dissociation.
13. Calculate the pH of the following solutions :
(i) 0.3 g of Ca(OH)2 dissolved in water to form 500 mL solution.
(ii) 1 mL of 13.6 M HCl is diluted with water to give 1 L of solution
(iii) 2 g of TlOH dissolved in waer to give 2L of solution.
(iv) 0.3 g of NaOH dissolved in water to give 200 mL of solution.

14. Calculate the pH of 0.01 M sol of CH3COOH. K𝛼 for CH3COOH at 298 K
is 1.8 × 10-5.

15. The degree of ionization of 𝛼 0.1 M bromo acetic acid solution is 0.132.
Calculate the pH of saolution and the pK𝛼 of bromo acetic acid

16. The pH of 𝛼 0.1 M monobasic acid (HA) is 4.5. Calculate the concentration
of the species H+, A- and HA at equilibrium. Also calculate the value of K𝛼 and
pK𝛼 of the acid.

17. Calculate [H3O+], [OH-] and pH of 𝛼 0.2 M solution of HCN (K𝛼 = 7.2 ×
10-10).

18. The ionization constant of HF is 3.2 × 10-4. Calculate the degree of


dissociation of HF in its 0.02 M solution. Calculate the concentration of all
species present (H3O+, F- and HF) in the solution and its pH.

19. The pH of 𝛼 0.01 M solution of an organic acid is 4.15. Calculate


(i) the concentration of the anion (ii) ionization constant of the acid(iii) pK𝛼

20. Calculate the pH of 0.08 M solution of hypochlorous acid (HClO). The


ionization constant of the acid is 2.5 × 10-5. Calculate the per cent dissociation
of HOCl.

21. The pH of 0.1 M solution of cyanic acid (HCNO) is 2.34. Calculate the
ionization constant of the acid and its degree of ionization in the solution.

22. The pH of 0.004 M hydrazine solution is 9.7. Calculate its Kb and pKb.

23. Calculate the pH of a solution formed by mixing equal volumes of two


solutions A and B of a strong acid having pH = 6 and pH = 4 respectively.
24. Calculate the pH of the following solutions obtained by mixing:
(a) equal volumes of two solutions with pH = 4 and pH = 10.
(b) 400 mL of solution with pH = 3 and 100 mL of solution with pH = 4
(c) 200 mL of 0.1 M NaOH and 300 mL of 0.2 M KOH.
25. What will be the pH of 𝑎 solution obtained by mixing 800 mL of 0.05 M
NaOH and 200 mL of 0.1 M HCl assuming complete dissociation of the acid
and the base?
