2 Problem Statement
Nurses play an important role in early detection of high risk patients with acid base
imbalance in critical care units. In extreme circumstances in which therapeutic compensation
is required, the nurses should be knowledgeable about potential risks of this therapy and able
to carefully monitor administration rates and therapeutic responses (Adhikari & Thapa, 2019).
Because nurses are often the first members of the health care team to see ABG results and the
ability to decide when needs to be informed is important (Dash, et al, 2019). Therefore, the
nurses will be expert about knowledge of ABG interpretation in ICU ward.
- To determine the level of knowledge among ICU nurses regarding arterial blood gases
interpretation
- To explore the relationship between level of knowledge and level of education among
ICU nurses
