The growth of the numbers of youth contracting Sexually Transmitted Infections/ HIV-
AIDS is an alarming matter. It does not only show how sexually active the youths are but also
reflects the lack of sex education and how to practice safe sex. Most of the generation that
engages in premarital sex nowadays came from a very conservative era wherein sex
education was a taboo and knowledge about contraceptives is very limited. The youth of today
are more exposed to different medias that portrays sexual activities wrongly. These youth will
learn from it and just copy everything, thinking that what they are doing is right. Another factor
that could be considered that contributes to the rising numbers of students contracting these
diseases is the lack of parental guidance when it comes to the talks about sexuality.

This young people are curious and adventurous making them most susceptible to contracting
such diseases. Lawmakers and people in position in academic institutions should be alarmed
by this surge. I think it is high time that the actualization of proposed idea of adding sex
education in the curriculum. With the students ranging from high school to college benefitting in
the said adjustment. Furthermore, another way of battling the said issue would be to offer ways
so that students could afford contraceptives and be knowledgeable about them.
