LE2: GENDER EQUALITY AND SOCIAL INEQUALITIES IN THE LGBT COMMUNITY

REFLECTION
The widening disparity on opportunities and chances given to members of the
LGBT community is not a new thing considering the fact that we live in a conservative
society, shaped by religious and cultural stereotypes and standards. The roles of man
and women were handed even before we are born, we were raised and molded to
believe that there is no gray area between these two. And we all try to live according to
these standards to avoid being scrutinized and or be at a disadvantage. This case is an
example of how gender-based discrimination exist in the corporate world, no matter how
good you are or how exemplary your skills may be if you cannot be boxed in these ‘’he
and she’’ pronouns you still have vague chances of being hired. It is indeed a shame
that great talents and skills was not put to good use just because of the person’s choice
of expressing themselves. Clearly I don’t see the point why the applicant was not
accepted seeing how exemplary the records are and a top in the board exams at that,
imagine how the company could have gained if it wasn’t for their discriminative policies.
I think policy makers should make it a point that prejudices and discrimination that exists
against people of the LGBT community on job applications be eliminated, so long as
their preferences does not violate or offends cultural and religious practice of the nature
of the work.

However, as time pass I hope that we would be able to outgrow this mentality and
embrace the fact that there is indeed no gray area between the identities of man and
women, everything in between and what exceeds was not a gray area, it is but a
RAINBOW. A splash of colorful, fun and beautiful people that must be seen,
appreciated, accepted and loved.
