The innovative

PROCONDIF® diffuser
The innovative
"procondive" method

"Procondive" ventilation is suitable for all applications where air is to be

introduced from above and where the dynamics of air movement specific to
the room need to be supported. The system is ideal for large volume flows
from a single point with average temperature differences.

Complex situation
Until recently, the use of non-highly entraining
air discharge from above in warehouses and lab-
oratories, etc. was somewhat problematic as the
cooled air discharged from the ceiling often
resulted in high downward velocities. The pre-
ferred solution was systems with extremely low
discharge velocities, although this led to large
diffuser areas and consequently costly products
or diffusers that took up a lot of floor space.

The ”procondive” method is based on a controlled

velocity profile at the outlet

The Innovative Solution

TROX HESCO Schweiz AG is pleased to present a
system that is unique in both its design and its
function: the innovative PROCONDIF® diffuser.

The "procondive" method is based on a controlled

velocity profile at the outlet: PRO (Profile) CON
(Controlled) DIF (Diffusion). The PROCONDIF®
(PCD) diffuser, the core of which is a highly
porous honeycomb structure, creates a discharge
profile appropriate for the intended application
and ensures rapid, gentle diffusion of the fresh
air with, above all, low turbulence.

ceiling diffuser ceiling diffuser In short: "procondive" air discharge.

What is more, there is hardly any secondary air

entrained in the outlet, and so the ceiling around
the diffuser does not get dirty. The efficient
alignment of the honeycomb structure means
that the flow of fresh air does not become con-
stricted, preventing an accelerated downward
speed of the supply air.

Special features:

• High air throughput 500 - 1000 m3/h

• Extremely silent
• No dirt on ceiling or outlet
• Only diffuser with controlled discharge
velocity profile
• Low turbulence
• No accelerating downward velocities
at ΔT of up to -6K
• Does not entrain secondary air
into the diffuser
• Unique in design and concept
• Square version replaces a
ceiling tile

Supports the room's own

dynamics of air movement
It should be noted when designing a comfort-
able environment that the PROCONDIF® method
promotes the dynamics of air motion specific to
the room. It ensures a soft air flow throughout
the room, enough to see that the air is
renewed, without impeding free upwards con-
vection from sources of heat. There are only
local compromises. Nor is there any Coanda
effect, except in heating mode.

Optimum function
and design

Unique in design
The air diffusers are designed as a metal frame
with a honeycomb insert through which the air is
discharged. The various different designs of the
fine restrictions ensure that the velocity adopts
a particular profile. The different alignments of
the honeycomb cells create a pattern visible from
beneath that not only fulfils the function of
providing a differentiated discharge profile, but
also makes a coherent visual impression.

Extremely silent
Despite the high volume of air passing through
the outlet, PCD diffusers are extremely silent and
have a very low pressure loss.
PCDQ at 500 m3/h: Δp = 17 Pa, Lw(A) = 32 dB(A)
PCDR at 800 m3/h: Δp = 18 Pa, Lw(A) = 34 dB(A)

There are two basic types of diffuser, distin-

guished by their form:

The square diffuser, PCDQ

consisting of a metal frame and a honeycomb
insert, can be fitted into a standard, 600x600 or
625x625mm ceiling tile grid. The diffuser thus
replaces a ceiling tile. Because the diffuser fits
in the ceiling tile system, less space in the room
is occupied and the room is felt to be more
spacious.

The round diffuser, PCDR

also consists of a metal frame and the patented
honeycomb insert, ensuring that air is dis-
charged over its full area through its filigree
design. The PCDR model is principally used in
exposed installations, but can naturally also be
integrated into a closed ceiling.

cooling methods
• Passage zones in airports
• Exhibition halls
• Shopping centres / shops
• Printshops
• Laboratories
• Ward
• Operating theatres / clean rooms
• Control bays
• Foyers / corridors
• Fan coil units with ceiling
outlets

Detailed simulation of PROCONDIF®
The velocity profile at the outlet can be modelled precisely using CFD (Computational Fluid
Dynamics). The soft air flow overall and the good renewal of the air in the room can be calcu-
lated from this profile.

Simulated comfort in the room
The room comfort provided by PROCONDIF® at IWC (International Watch Co. AG) in Schaffhausen,
Switzerland, was calculated. Result: The simulation shows very good comfort in the watch-
maker’s premises.
