4.4 Social Intelligence in Technological Communication

Text-speak and technology use have affected many young people's ability to communicate.
While email has deformalized much of the communication process, students still need to ensure
their writing denotes respect and provides enough context for professors (or future employers) to
really respond. Text- speak has also reduced student's ability to communicate using correct
grammar. Through studying a particular communication genre and what they demand, students
can learn more about what individual situations demand in terms of the formality of
communication.

EXPLANATION:

As we all know, from the title itself “Social Intelligence in Technological Communication”,
mapapaisip tayo na “ay maganda to”, “ay may mabuting dulot to para sa atin”, yun ay dahil sa
anduduon ang word na “Intelligence”, simply mean na “katalinuhan” in tagalog. Pero not all
people are aware na may disadvantage din para sa atin kung mapasobra tayo sa gamit nito. Isa na
sa halimbawa na nabanggit dito ay paggamit ng Text-speak mode. Isa sa disadvantage nito ay
maapektuhan ang paggamit natin ng grammar, emotionless kung gagamitin natin yung tone ng
speech nito, at nawawala ang formal delivery nito na maaaring maglead sa misunderstandings
between people around you. Sa paggamit natin ng social media ngayon, mapapansin rin natin na
ang karamihan ay mas madalas nilang nagagamit ang wrong spelling ng salita kahit na same lang
naman kung idedeliver, kagaya ng “forda” at “ferson”. Makakaapekto ito sa mga students dahil
sa maaari nila itong magamit sa kanilang mga academic works, especially sa part na kakausapin
nila ang kanilang mga teachers through online like messenger or email.

4.5 Social Intelligence in Traditional Communication

While email has taken over as the primary method of communication, traditional modes of
discourse still exist. For example, many employers till expect cover letters in addition to resumes
and the lack of a thank-you note for a gift is often perceived as more than a simple social
oversight. An ability to craft these types of documents illustrates an understanding of social
expectations and denotes a level of respect or appreciation. While not related to the traditional
educational canon, learning to properly rite a cover letter or business letter or thank-you card not
only teaches students that these documents exist and are often necessary but also shows them
how to craft such documents, saving them time and energy in the future.

In this part, we can also all agree na mas better rin ang Traditional way of communication.
Tunay na makikita natin yung pagiging sincere ng tao, respeto nya sayo at pag-aappreciate nya
sayo by simply giving you short essays, messages, letters, or cards. Gaya ng ganap pag may
birthday, anniversary, monthsary, or anumang klase ng celebration. In this part rin natututo ang
mga students sa tamang way ng pagsusulat ng message, maaaring dahil sa napag-aralan nila sa
school or maaari rin dahil sa pagsesearch nila online. May pakinabang pa rin naman ang internet
o online searching sa traditional communication, sadyang pagnasobrahan sa gamit o magkamali
sa gamit ay naglelead sa maling impormasyon at misunderstanding dahil sa impormasyon na
iyon. Kung matututo ang mga students ng tamang way sa pagsusulat ng kahit na anong klase ng
document, ay maaari nila itong magamit in future, gaya ng paggawa ng resume, or pagsusubmit
ng letter sa isang company na nais mong pasukan, or pwede rin sa email kung saan nakapaloob
dito ang formal way of writing sa email para mas understandable sya sa magbabasa nito.
