DID RIZAL RETRACT?

A statement is considered retracted when it is contradicted or withdrawn after it has been

made. The confession of guilt may be reversed in some circumstances, such as when it includes
an anticipated breach of a contract. The concept of retracing Rizal's writings was formerly
controversial, and several disagreements and debates took place. Many individuals can accept a
significant number of concepts as accurate, on either the good or the opposing side.

However, if we go back to the time after the Philippine Revolution, he was hanged by the
Spanish colonial authorities for rebellious literature. Furthermore, again, Rizal's retraction
sparked many arguments. Due to these facts, researchers think Rizal did not retract. Rizal's non-
Catholic burial in Paco is evidence that he did not retract. After his execution on December 30,
1896, Rizal's lifeless body was carried to San Juan de Dios Hospital and buried at Paco Cemetery
in an unmarked tomb, contrary to Catholic Church practice.

The retraction document was supposedly signed by Dr. Rizal and published in
newspapers. Dr. Rizal's family demanded to view the original paper to check his handwriting,
but the priests claimed they had lost it. The "original" paper of Dr. Rizal's retraction was
discovered by the Catholic Church in 1935, 39 years after his execution. Dr. Ricardo Pascual
asked permission from the high priest to examine the document and found inconsistencies in the
writing style and format that indicated it was fake.

It was said that the paper was forged by dishonest means. According to Senator Rafael
Palma, a well-known Freemason and a former president of the University of the Philippines, a
retraction would be inconsistent with Rizal's character and his developed ideals at that point in
his life. Palma made this statement in response to a question about whether a retraction would be
appropriate.

In conclusion, he did not retract. In light of the information presented and examined, We
maintain our belief that Dr. Jose Rizal did not back down from his defiance in the face of the
persecution that caused such significant damage to the lives of the Filipino people. This proves
that he did not have a change of heart regarding how much he loved his country before he passed
away.
