Final Exam

Policy and Assessment Rubric

ENGLISH FOR ACADEMIC PURPOSES

(Developed for Trimester I 2022-2023 academic year)

1. General Provisions

1.1 The exam policy was developed in connection with the Administration decision "On

Academic Policy " dated October 29, 2020 and “Regulations on the student assessment system”

dated February 1, 2021 and “Regulations on the intermediate and final types of assessment”

adopted by Astana IT University.

1.2 Students are eligible to take part in the final examination if they have completed the English

for Academic Purposes course developed by the AITU English Language Program, have an

attendance rate no less than 70%, and a term mid-score of 50% or more.

1.2 NB: If a student grade for the Midterm or End term is lower than 25 out of 100 %, that

student is not allowed to take the final exam according to “Regulations on the student

assessment system” dated February 1, 2021.

1.3 The final exam is carried out in person according to the approved schedule of examinations

at Nur-Sultan time. If a student is not admitted to the exam, the procedure is organised in

accordance with the Regulations on conducting formative and summative assessments of Astana

IT University.

1.4 If there is documentary evidence of a valid reason for missing the final exam, the procedure

for retaking and the timing of the exam must be approved by the dean's office.

1.5 The results of any of the types of final assessment are determined in accordance with the

Regulation on the point-rating system for assessing student progress (maximum 60% for the

formative part and 40% for the final exam). The results of the final exam held in person are

published in LSM Moodle by an examiner within three working days after the exam.

1.6 If a student receives a mark of 50% or above the final exam is not allowed to be retaken.
2. Academic Integrity Policy

2.1 The policy of academic integrity must be followed by students in completing the

assignments. The assignments should be performed personally by the student, without the

involvement of outside help and without discussing the assignments with other individuals.

3. The process of the examination

3.1 Preliminary preparation

Before the exam, students should check the date and time in advance and come at least 15

minutes before the exam time. Students should upload their Final Exam Presentations on

Moodle seven days before the exam date. It is required to observe the dress code (to have a neat

look that matches the occasion).

3.2. The exam structure

3.2.1 The final exam for the "English for Academic Purposes" course is conducted orally and

includes a presentation based on the student's chosen IT invention project. The content part of

the presentation should reflect the student’s IT invention project parts.

3.2.2 Duration of the exam is 5-7 minutes per person. The presentation is evaluated according to

the given assessment rubric. See below.
