II. BRIEF BACKGROUND

A. LOCATION:
a.1. The province is bordered by Ilocos Sur to the north, Benguet to the east, Pangasinan to the south, and to
the west by the shores of the South China Sea.

a.2. La Union is a relatively new province, having been formed in 1850 from the southernmost towns of
Ilocos Sur, westernmost towns of Benguet, and the northernmost towns of Pangasinan. True to its name,
meaning “the Union” in Spanish, the region is a melting pot of Pangasinan, Ilocano and Cordilleran
(Igorot) cultures.

a.3. It is the melting pot of the provinces Pangasinan, Ilocos and Cordilleran region.

B. DEMOGRAPGHY: (same lang sa powerpoint)

a.1. According to the 2015 Census, the age group with the highest population in La Union is 5 to 9, with
75,059 individuals.

aD.2. Conversely, the age group with the lowest population is 75 to 79, with 10,108 individuals.

b.3. This represented 15.51% of the total population of the Ilocos Region, 1.32% of the overall
population of the Luzon Island group, or 0.75% of the entire population of the Philippines.

b.4. Based on these figures, the population density is computed at 548 inhabitants per square kilometer
or 1,421 inhabitants per square mile.

C. LOCATION:

c.1. Due to the inter tropical convergence zone, low pressure areas always occur on the pacific ocean
and develop into typhoons. Hot air from the bodies of water evaporates and condenses into
thunderclouds and forms into storms or typhoons.

c.2. 1 Its population as determined by the 2020 Census was 822,352. This represented 15.51% of the
total population of the Ilocos Region, 1.32% of the overall population of the Luzon island group, or
0.75% of the entire population of the Philippines.
D. LAND AREA

d.1. La Union covers a total area of 1,497.70 sq km (578.27 sq mi)

III. FACTORS THAT AFFECT THE LOCATION:

A. CLIMATE:

a.1. The climate is tropical in La Union. It is much rainier in La Union during Summer

B. TOPOGRAPHY:

b.1. La Union is located in the southwestern part of the Ilocos Region. It is a predominantly hilly province
with about 149,309 hectares of land.

a.1. Incorporating plants to reduce heat production

c..1. Placing the airport near the area where people can access easily.
