Minute Talk
Direction: You may choose a partner and please read the following situations below. Discuss
with your partner on how the school facilitated the learning of their students.
A. Using the table below indicate how you can utilize the different approaches in the
classroom.
B. Today I learned that curriculum design is a term used to describe the purposeful,
deliberate, and systematic organization of curriculum (instructional blocks) within a
class or course. In other words, it is a way for teachers to plan instruction. The
ultimate goal for curriculum design is to deepen learning and support students in
gaining important core competencies such as critical and creative thinking, skillful
communication, and demonstrating care for self and others.

Picture Analysis
Guide Question:
1. What does your answer to the activity above tell about your concept of curriculum
design?
Curriculum design is the planning period when instructors organize the instructional units
for their course. Curriculum design involves planning activities, readings, lessons, and
assessments that achieve educational goals.
2. How do you feel upon knowing your perspective about curriculum design?
I felt being enlightened because at last I got to understand the uses and importance of
curriculum design.
3. Which of the pictures describe above are classified as the subject-centered design,
learner-centered design and problem-centered design? Why?
The third picture was the subject- centered design, the second picture is the learner-
centered design and the first picture is the problem centered design.
Application
1. Choose at least two subjects you were enrolled last first semester SY 2019-2020.
2. As far as you can recall, list down all the learning activities done in the chosen classes.
3. Indicate the types of design that each learning activity can address.
B. Today I learned that there are three models of curriculum design: subject-centered,
learner-centered, and problem-centered design. Curriculum models provide a
structure for teachers to “systematically and transparently map out the rationale
for the use of particular teaching, learning and assessment approaches” in the
classroom, and are regarded as an effective and essential framework for successful
teachers.

3 Elements of Designing
THINK-PAIR-SHARE
THINK
What do you think is the most important element in designing a lesson plan? Explain why in the
space below.
The key elements of a good lesson plan include: objectives, pre assessment, motivation,
techniques and sequencing, and application, evaluation, and follow up.
PAIR
Look for a partner and start a discussion on what is the most important part of a lesson plan.
Combine your ideas and summarize your discussion below.
1. Objective
All lessons must have an aim, purpose or objective. The instructor must be clear about the
objective to get a successful learning outcome for any block of time. In order to choose an
appropriate lesson aim, the instructor must work "backwards" in each curriculum area.
2. Pre-assessment
This component of the lesson plan determines the appropriateness of a specific primary
objective. It involves evaluation of the level of skill and knowledge called for and determination
of the difficulty of the lesson: too easy, too hard, or just right.
3. Motivation
Motivation is a psychological state within each student of wanting to learn what the instructor
wants to teach.
Specific planning is needed to determine what teaching techniques will the instructor use for the
lesson.
These concluding parts of the lesson plan speak to the matters of utility, effectiveness, and the
place of the lesson in the learning sequence.

2. Are your answers the same? Or not?
Not the same at all.
3. As a teacher, how are you going to utilize the curriculum map in the teaching learning
process?
Curriculum mapping aims to ensure that assessments and other methods of evaluating
learning progress are based on what has actually been taught to students. Curriculum
mapping also provides an easy link to learning standards that the students are expected to
meet in a particular course, subject area, or grade level.

C. Today I learned that there are four main components in the basic curriculum, which allows
it to be cohesive and integral. These components are objectives (aims, and goals), content
(subject matters), learning experiences, and evaluation. The integration of all curriculum
components in different subjects is important to the learner as it help them as individual
learners in the society to be developed into fully prepared citizens in meeting the aims and
goals of education. All societies educate their children.
Curriculum Implementation
Lesson
1 Models of Implementation
Read the given notes about the models of implementation. Fill in the PMI Chart.
Write what you think are the advantages of each model under Plus, and its
disadvantages under Minus. If you find something interesting in the model,
write it under interesting.
Models of Implementation
1. Overcoming Resistance to Change Model - This model rests on the assumption that
the success of curriculum implementation primarily depends on the impact the developer
can make on the consumers, i.e., teachers, students and the society in general. While
addressing the persons within the system, we should remember that to get the desired
result the subordinates should be motivated rather than ordered
2. Leadership-Obstacle Course (LOC) Model. This model treats staff resistance to
change as problematic and proposes that we should collect data to determine the extent
and nature of the resistance.
3. Linkage Model – This model recognizes that there are innovators in research and
development centers, universities, etc. Educators in the field, however, find some of their
attempts at innovations that are inappropriate for solving the problems. What is therefore
needed is a match between the problems and innovations-the establishment of linkages.
This model foresees two systems: user system and resource system. There has to be a link
between these two systems.
4. The Rand Model is based on the assumption that the success of the implementation of
new program depends on: the characteristics of the proposed change; competencies of the
teaching and administrative staff; the support of the local community; and the school
organizational structure
3. The Linkage Model foresees two systems: user system and resource system. There has to
be a link between these two systems. Describe the link between the user system and the
resource system.
The user system is the educators who uses curriculum while the resource system is
the organization who approved the curriculum plan such as CHED and DepEd. The
link between the user system and the resource system is that user system as to
implement the plan while there source system is to evaluate the curriculum for its
effectiveness.
Application
1. Describe how you would use each of the curriculum implementation models presented
in the readings to facilitate curriculum change.
In the ORC Model, I'll encourage everyone to participate to meet he successful goal
by the help of the learners and must acquire knowledge to accomplish the task. The
LOC Model, I'll gather data that are essential to meet the change and take an action
towards existing problems that affect the implementation. The Linkage Model, I'll
create a curriculum that has clear but in a concise manner to the user's problem to
determine and solve what are the problems being drawn by the curriculum through
the guidance of teachers to furnished ideas that are related to engage learner's
productivity. Then, The Rand Model, I'll coordinate to the organization on what are
the things must done to have a better result by the help of other opinion and to their
conclusion as well. Lastly, The Organizational Development Model, I'll be mindful to
the things I'd planned before implementing it because there are factors to consider
while we are on the process which communication matters most.
2. Which of the curriculum implementation models presented in the readings is the most
consistent with your way of thinking? Why?
For me, the Linkage Model because it has clear and strong construction of ideas, they
also sees problems as opportunity, and follows plan with the expertise with the other
universities to have a reliable and valid plan.
3. Today I learned that there are three models of curriculum design: subject-centered,
learner-centered, and problem-centered design. It helps to cope with new
technology changes. It makes the teacher to be systematic in delivery. It helps to
make the curriculum relevant to the needs of the learner and the society as a whole.
There is need to ensure effective use of curriculum resources so as to enhance
maximum productivity in school.
IMPLEMENTATION INSTITUTIONALIZATION

Learner- Centered.
4. What resources were made available by your school to support the initiation and
implementation?
A free tuitions, new classrooms, new books, new teachers and as well as new learning
materials.
Application
3. How will the institution be able to sustain the change over time?
The institution sustains the change over time by restricting their goal upon enhancing the
learning of the learners for them to have a good environment that helps them to acquire
the knowledge they need.
B. Give your own examples applying the different categories of curriculum change.
1. Substitution
In the subjects changing the old curriculum to a new and improved lesson plans.
2. Alteration
Instead of using a traditional way of reporting PowerPoint presentations is being used.
3. Restructuring
Used Spiral Learning to improve the skills and expands the knowledge of the students.
4. Perturbations
Giving innovative and unique activities that will certainly catch the attention and mind of
the students so that they can easily learn along the process.
5. Value Orientation
Conducting a value orientation for the teacher to have a reflection on their selves about
what are the right and wrong in their teaching.

3. Select a certain chapter of the said book. Review and evaluate that chapter using the
Consumer-Oriented Evaluation Approach by Scriven and adapted from the work of
Marvin Patterson shown below.
Today I learned that the evaluation model is systematic approach that will guide in
measuring the efficiency and effectiveness of a training, a course or an educational
program. Evaluation provides a systematic method to study a program, practice,
intervention, or initiative to understand how well it achieves its goals. Evaluations
help determine what works well and what could be improved in a program or
initiative.
