B. Today I learned that curriculum planning is a process concerned with making

decisions about what to learn, why, and how to organize the teaching and learning
process taking into account existing curriculum requirements and the resources
available. Students and their learning needs are at the centre of effective curriculum
planning and assessment. This principle enables teachers to devise experiences to
develop lifelong learners and responsible citizens. This allows teachers to embed
relevant formative and summative assessment strategies into classroom practice.

Analysis : Let us Analyze

1. What does the word “curriculum design “mean” as used in the situations given above?
Curriculum design is a means for teachers to plan for instruction. It provides guidance on
what will be done, who will do it and what schedule to follow. Teachers have the option to
choose from among the common approaches to utilize.
2. What common understanding do you have in curriculum design?
Curriculum design is the planning period when instructors organize the instructional units
for their course.
3. How does your understanding of curriculum design influence your instructional plan?
Curriculum influences how people learn and grow from very young ages and continues to
shape learning experiences throughout our lives.

Application: Let’s Apply

B. Today I learned that curriculum design is a term used to describe the purposeful,
deliberate, and systematic organization of curriculum (instructional blocks) within a
class or course. In other words, it is a way for teachers to plan instruction. The
ultimate goal for curriculum design is to deepen learning and support students in
gaining important core competencies such as critical and creative thinking, skillful
communication, and demonstrating care for self and others.

Life Skill.

Analysis: Let us Analyze

1. What does your answer to the activity above tell about your concept of curriculum
design?
Curriculum design is the planning period when instructors organize the instructional units
for their course. Curriculum design involves planning activities, readings, lessons, and
assessments that achieve educational goals.
2. How do you feel upon knowing your perspective about curriculum design?
I felt being enlightened because at last I got to understand the uses and importance of
curriculum design.
3. Which of the pictures describe above are classified as the subject-centered design,
learner-centered design and problem-centered design? Why?
The third picture was the subject- centered design, the second picture is the learner-
centered design and the first picture is the problem centered design.

Application

A. Using the matrix below, do the following:

1. Choose at least two subjects you were enrolled last first semester SY 2019-2020.
2. As far as you can recall, list down all the learning activities done in the chosen classes.
3. Indicate the types of design that each learning activity can address.

7. Scramble Words Problem-centered design

8. Brainstorming Subject-centered design

B. Today I learned that there are three models of curriculum design: subject-centered,
learner-centered, and problem-centered design. Curriculum models provide a
structure for teachers to “systematically and transparently map out the rationale
for the use of particular teaching, learning and assessment approaches” in the
classroom, and are regarded as an effective and essential framework for successful
teachers.

Lesson
3 Elements of Designing

THINK-PAIR-SHARE

THINK

What do you think is the most important element in designing a lesson plan? Explain why in the
space below.

The key elements of a good lesson plan include: objectives, pre assessment, motivation,
techniques and sequencing, and application, evaluation, and follow up.

PAIR

Look for a partner and start a discussion on what is the most important part of a lesson plan.
Combine your ideas and summarize your discussion below.

1. Objective

All lessons must have an aim, purpose or objective. The instructor must be clear about the
objective to get a successful learning outcome for any block of time. In order to choose an
appropriate lesson aim, the instructor must work "backwards" in each curriculum area.

2. Pre-assessment

This component of the lesson plan determines the appropriateness of a specific primary
objective. It involves evaluation of the level of skill and knowledge called for and determination
of the difficulty of the lesson: too easy, too hard, or just right.

3. Motivation
Motivation is a psychological state within each student of wanting to learn what the instructor
wants to teach.

4. Techniques and Sequencing

Specific planning is needed to determine what teaching techniques will the instructor use for the
lesson.

5. Application, Evaluation, Follow-up

These concluding parts of the lesson plan speak to the matters of utility, effectiveness, and the
place of the lesson in the learning sequence.

Share

Share with the class the most important part of the paired discussion. List below the three most
important points you would like to share.

The most important part during the discussion is knowing the process and organization of a
lesson plan.

Answer briefly

1. What did you understand about a lesson plan as discussed above?

Lesson planning helps you differentiate and plan for the many different ability levels and
needs of students in your classrooms. Lesson plans also help serve as documentation that
we're doing the best things with our young children.
2. Based on the discussion, what is the most important part of a lesson plan?
For me, all parts of the lesson plan is important because we cannot achieve an effective,
productive, and best teaching strategy when one of it is missing. All parts plays an
important role.
3. What do you think is the use of a lesson plan in the teaching learning process?
Lesson planning helps teachers break down each lesson into a defined flow with specific
classroom activities – and gives them a schedule they can stick to. Plus, it gives the
regular teacher confidence knowing that class time is being used effectively – and that he
or she won't need to repeat the lesson later.

(subject matters), learning experiences, and evaluation. The integration of all curriculum
components in different subjects is important to the learner as it help them as individual
learners in the society to be developed into fully prepared citizens in meeting the aims and
goals of education. All societies educate their children.

Curriculum Implementation
Lesson
1 Models of Implementation

Read the given notes about the models of implementation. Fill in the PMI Chart.
Write what you think are the advantages of each model under Plus, and its
disadvantages under Minus. If you find something interesting in the model,
write it under interesting.

Models of Implementation
1. Overcoming Resistance to Change Model - This model rests on the assumption that
the success of curriculum implementation primarily depends on the impact the developer
can make on the consumers, i.e., teachers, students and the society in general. While
addressing the persons within the system, we should remember that to get the desired
result the subordinates should be motivated rather than ordered
2. Leadership-Obstacle Course (LOC) Model. This model treats staff resistance to
change as problematic and proposes that we should collect data to determine the extent
and nature of the resistance.
3. Linkage Model – This model recognizes that there are innovators in research and
development centers, universities, etc. Educators in the field, however, find some of their
attempts at innovations that are inappropriate for solving the problems. What is therefore
needed is a match between the problems and innovations-the establishment of linkages.
This model foresees two systems: user system and resource system. There has to be a link
between these two systems.

4. The Rand Model is based on the assumption that the success of the implementation of
new program depends on: the characteristics of the proposed change; competencies of the
teaching and administrative staff; the support of the local community; and the school
organizational structure

4. Organizational Development Model – This model is an information-processing

change strategy that enables the system to improve its operations and the quality of
interactions among its members to facilitate the introduction of change. This model
improves the organization’s problem solving and renewal process and its emphasis on
teamwork and organizational culture.

1. In the ORC Model, what should be addressed to make curriculum implementation

successful?
This model focuses on gaining advocates and sharing power equally between
administrators and teachers. The ORC model focuses on allowing for the personal needs
of the teachers to be addressed through maintaining high flexibility in the
implementation.
2. What conditions must exist for the Leadership Obstacle Course Model to prosper?
The Leadership Obstacle Course Model must collect all the details that are needed to
adapt and adjust from the things that may overcome.

3. The Linkage Model foresees two systems: user system and resource system. There has to
be a link between these two systems. Describe the link between the user system and the
resource system.
The user system is the educators who uses curriculum while the resource system is
the organization who approved the curriculum plan such as CHED and DepEd. The
link between the user system and the resource system is that user system as to
implement the plan while there source system is to evaluate the curriculum for its
effectiveness.

4. What are some implications in the use of the Rand Model?

The Rand Model is based the characteristics of the proposed change; competencies
of the teaching and administrative staff; the support of the local community; and the
school organizational structure. By that, characteristics stated must possess to have
a successful plan on the curriculum.

Application

1. Describe how you would use each of the curriculum implementation models presented
in the readings to facilitate curriculum change.
In the ORC Model, I'll encourage everyone to participate to meet he successful goal
by the help of the learners and must acquire knowledge to accomplish the task. The
LOC Model, I'll gather data that are essential to meet the change and take an action
towards existing problems that affect the implementation. The Linkage Model, I'll
create a curriculum that has clear but in a concise manner to the user's problem to
determine and solve what are the problems being drawn by the curriculum through
the guidance of teachers to furnished ideas that are related to engage learner's
productivity. Then, The Rand Model, I'll coordinate to the organization on what are
the things must done to have a better result by the help of other opinion and to their
conclusion as well. Lastly, The Organizational Development Model, I'll be mindful to
the things I'd planned before implementing it because there are factors to consider
while we are on the process which communication matters most.

2. Which of the curriculum implementation models presented in the readings is the most
consistent with your way of thinking? Why?
For me, the Linkage Model because it has clear and strong construction of ideas, they
also sees problems as opportunity, and follows plan with the expertise with the other
universities to have a reliable and valid plan.

3. Today I learned that there are three models of curriculum design: subject-centered,
learner-centered, and problem-centered design. It helps to cope with new
technology changes. It makes the teacher to be systematic in delivery. It helps to
make the curriculum relevant to the needs of the learner and the society as a whole.
There is need to ensure effective use of curriculum resources so as to enhance
maximum productivity in school.

The changes that affect us most is the changes brought to the systems itself, the
adaptation and adjustment to become more flexible in learning so that acquire things
that happened to lessen the effects that impacted towards learning process.

3. Why do we need to implement changes in curriculum?

We need to implement changes in curriculum since improvement is always there to
produce competent individuals.

4. What resources were made available by your school to support the initiation and
implementation?
A free tuitions, new classrooms, new books, new teachers and as well as new learning
materials.

Application

A. Answer the given questions.

1. What would be your response to curriculum implementation as a part of curriculum
change?
I am agree to the curriculum implementation as a part of curriculum change a sit will
help the students to their improvement in gaining more knowledge, then for the
teachers it will help them to improve the teaching and learning process they may
impart with their students.

2. What are the challenges of curriculum implementation?

The adaptation and the changes of its processes.

3. How will the institution be able to sustain the change over time?
The institution sustains the change over time by restricting their goal upon enhancing the
learning of the learners for them to have a good environment that helps them to acquire
the knowledge they need.
B. Give your own examples applying the different categories of curriculum change.
1. Substitution
In the subjects changing the old curriculum to a new and improved lesson plans.

2. Alteration
Instead of using a traditional way of reporting PowerPoint presentations is being used.

3. Restructuring
Used Spiral Learning to improve the skills and expands the knowledge of the students.

4. Perturbations
Giving innovative and unique activities that will certainly catch the attention and mind of
the students so that they can easily learn along the process.

5. Value Orientation
Conducting a value orientation for the teacher to have a reflection on their selves about
what are the right and wrong in their teaching.

Today I learned that curriculum implementation simply means that implementation

should bring desired change and improvement. If curriculum reform aims at changing the
ways students learn and teachers teach, more sophisticated implementation strategies are
required. Therefore, helping teachers to create professional learning communities and
schools to learn from each other are recommended approaches.

 Based from your answer in item 1, write a short description of each type of
evaluation.

 Placement-it is about measuring the learning

capacity of the student, then after will
undergo ranking based on the standards.

 Diagnostic— it measures the current

knowledge and skills of the students
which helps the teacher to find out
such any learning problems.

 Formative—it is used to monitor the

students learning progress to
strengthen them for their
improvements.

 Summative— it is usually at the end of the

given course or unit instructions just like
prelim, midterm, final exams, and final
projects to find out which student has
mastered the expected learning outcomes.
Today I learned that there are two primary types of evaluations — formative and summative
— that assess academic curriculum for effectiveness. Within each major category, you'll
find different models that guide the assessment process when it comes to information that
you need and how to gather it. Evaluation helps to build an educational programme, assess
its achievements and improve upon its effectiveness. Thus, evaluation plays a significant
role in any educational programme. Evaluation plays an enormous role in the teaching-
learning process. It helps teachers and learners to improve teaching and learning.

3. What are your major comments?

Today I learned that curriculum evaluation models are important because it must choose a
suitable evaluation model that will guide us in designing your own evaluation. In the context of
the academe, the examples of evaluation models that have been utilized in evaluating
curriculum includes Tyler’s Model, CIPP Model, Stake’s Countenance Model, and Scriven’s Goal-
Free Model that used to organized the curriculum evaluation

Today I learned that the evaluation model is systematic approach that will guide in
measuring the efficiency and effectiveness of a training, a course or an educational
program. Evaluation provides a systematic method to study a program, practice,
intervention, or initiative to understand how well it achieves its goals. Evaluations
help determine what works well and what could be improved in a program or
initiative.
