LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 8

I. OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, students are expected to:

a. Define the word Meiosis
b. Sequence the events of the cell cycle particularly meiosis through the
activity called “ ARRANGE ME”
c. Understand the importance of meiosis in our daily lives by writing a short
essay about it.

II. Subject Matter: Cell Division: Meiosis

III. Pre-Activity:
 Prayer
 Attendance
 Elicit: Students will be asked by this question:
1. Relating our previous topic on mitosis, what do you think is the
role of meiosis during sexual reproduction?

IV. Lesson Proper

 Engage: Students will need to discover and arrange the jumbled

terms which will be used during discussion.

 Explore: Students will be grouped into 5, each group will perform

the task called “SEQUENCE ME”. They will be given strips of paper
and long sheets of manila paper with definitions. Students will
arrange the following words in order and according to its definition.

 Explain: After the activity, students will post their output on the
board and each group will have a representative to present their
output.

 Elaborate: Video presentation on Meiosis

 Extend: There will be a checking of outputs. Based on the video

presented, students will be asked by the following questions:

1. How do you compare mitosis and meiosis?

2. What is the role of crossing over during meiosis?
3. How does meiosis leads to variation in a species?

 Evaluate: In a ½ sheet of paper, students will answer the following

questions:

1. Assume that a couple has four children who are all boys. What
are the chances that their next child will also be a boy? Explain
your answer.

2. How does separation of homologous chromosomes during

anaphase I of meiosis increase variation among offspring?

 Assignment: Study the next lesson about DNA.
