To study the connection and operation of series wound DC machine

when driven with the help of prime mover
Apparatus:
 Two DC machines , one will be used as series wound generator while the
other one will be used as shunt wound DC motor
 Connecting wires
 power supply
 Multimeter

Procedure:
 Take two DC machines of same rating
 Connect one machine as series wound DC generator
 Connect the other as shunt wound DC motor which will act as prime mover
 Prime mover is an apparatus which provide mechanical energy to the shaft
of the generator
 Mechanically couple the armature (shafts ) of both machines
 Turn on the power supply to the motor
 As the motor rotates it rotate the generator alternatively .
 An emf will build on the output of the generator
 The whole operation is shown in figuer.1
