"The structure of the world's ecosystems changed
more rapidly in the second half of the twentieth
century than at any time in recorded human history,
and virtually all of Earth's ecosystems have now
been significantly transformed through human
actions.“

Urban Family vs Rural Family

 Urbanized. Educated and Professional

Families (with two incomes) desire just
one or two progenies.
 Rural Families view multiple children
and large kinship networks as critical
investments (Children, for example,
can take over the agricultural work.)

Migration to the Cities - Urban Populations have

grown (1950 to present), but not necessarily because
families are having more children.
The “Perils” of Overpopulation
According to The Population Bomb (Ehrlich and Anne)
overpopulation will bring about global environmental
disasters (Food shortage and mass starvation)

The “Perils” of Overpopulation

By limiting the population, vital resources

could be used for economic progress and not
to be “diverted” and “wasted” to feeding
more mouths.

This Argument became the basis for

government “Population Control”
programs worldwide.
