Sử dụng phân số
Bạn hãy quy đổi số liệu phần trăm ra dạng phân số rồi lựa chọn cụm từ mô tả
thích hợp nhé.
Cách đọc phân số:
 Tử số là số đếm (cardinal number): one, two, three…
 Mẫu số là số thứ tự (ordinal number): third, fourth, fifth,…
 Chú ý: khi tử số lớn hơn hoặc bắng 2 thì mẫu số phải ở dạng số nhiều
(thêm s)
Ví dụ:
½ (50%): a half hoặc one half
¼ (25%): one quarter/ a quarter hoặc one fourth
¾ (75%) : three quarters
10%: one tenth/ a tenth hoặc one out of ten
50%: a half
60%: two thirds
2. Một số phó từ chỉ sự ước lượng
– Nhỏ hơn/ Dưới (so với một con số gần nhất làm mốc)
Below
Under
Less than
– Lớn hơn (so với một con số gần nhất làm mốc)
More than
Over
Above
– Xấp xỉ
+ Trường hợp 1: số liệu cao hơn hoặc thấp hơn một chút
About
Approximately
Nearly
Almost
Roughly
Practically
Slightly
Marginally
+ Trường hợp 2: số liệu cao hơn hoặc thấp hơn rất nhiều
Considerably
Significantly
Chú ý: + Đối với các từ chỉ sự nhỏ hơn/ lớn hơn, các bạn có thể kết hợp cùng từ
“just”, “well” hoặc để mô tả cụ thể hơn nhé:
just under: thấp hơn một chút
well over: cao hơn rất nhiều
Như vậy, số liệu trở nên rõ ràng hơn rồi đúng không nào?
+ Đối với cách dùng phân số, bạn nên kết hợp cùng những phó từ chỉ sự “xấp
xỉ”.
Cùng thử một số ví dụ nhé:
31%: just over 30%/ about 30%/ about one third/ slightly over a third
19%: just under 20%
77%: slightly more than three quarters
64%: almost two thirds
3. Các cụm từ chỉ sự ước lượng chung
Số nhỏ nhất: A mere/ a modest 2% of…
Số nhỏ (5%, 10%, 15%…): the minority of…
Số vừa phải (20%, 30%…): a large proportion/ percentage of…
Số lớn: many/ a considerable + number of…
50%: the majority of…
Số lớn hơn (60%, 70%…): A massive/ A considerable/ A hefty 60% of
Đa số (80 %, 85%, 90%,…): The vast majority of/ The overwhelming majority
of/ Almost all (trên 95% chẳng hạn)
Với các cách trên, chúng mình cùng luyện tập với 2 ví dụ sau đây, để xem số
liệu ước lượng có thể “thiên biến vạn hóa” như thế nào nhé:

+ Just over 50% of students

Only 11% of filmgoers thought films helped promote cultural awareness:
+ Approximately/ almost one out of ten
