Encoding Specificity Principle

Summary Memory is best when the overlap is high.

When learning is appropriately difficult, our

brains process the information deeper and
memory retention is longer. While studying,

Spacing effect
-Ebbinghaus’ Forgetting curve-

Spacing out your study is superior to block

learning material over time. Practice spaced
repetition, review materials at systematic
intervals. At the start, intervals can be
spaced closely together (i.e. 1 hr/4hrs/1 day).
Afterwards, intervals can be longer. Try it out
for your revision!

Interleaving and Retrieval

Interleaved learning of closely-related content
is more effective than blocked learning. Active
recalling is superior over re-reading or
highlighting learning material. Practice mixing
topics during revision, it can enhance bringing
information to mind and boost learning!
