CHAPTER- ONE
INTRODUCTION
The chapter introduces the study. It gives the back ground of the study, problem
statement, aim of the study, objectives of the study justification of the study and
limitation of study.
BACK GROUND
Prostitution has been a global challenge all over the word. Woman/ girl engaged in
prostitution because of poverty poor group influence unemployment poor parenting
etc. Prostitution is the practice of engaging indiscriminate Social activity with
some who is without a spouse or a guarantee relationship in exchange for
immediate payment in money or other for valuable.
Prostitution is practiced everywhere but most time in big towns and cities.
According to rohgious belief prostitution is an immoral act.
In the late 19th country a variety of changes in western societies revived efforts to
suppress prostitution with the rise of feminism many come to reared male
libertinism as a threat to woman status and physical health.
Intonation cooperation to and the traffic in woman for the purpose of prostitution
began in 1899. In 1921, the league of nation establish committee on the traffic in

exploitation.
UNAIDS estimated there are two hundred and forty thousand (240,000,000)
prostitutes in the country.
In 1787 the British crown founded settlement in Sierra Leone in what was call the
“province of freedom “it intended to settle some of the “black poor of London”
mostly African American freed by the British during the American revolution any
war. About two hundred and ninety (290) free black forty one (4) black woman
and sixty (60) while prostitutes from linden reached Sierra Leone on the 15th may
1787.
Since the end of the ten (10) year civil war in Sierra Leone there has been an
increase in prostitution especially among female children or woman who is
struggling to survive. This has happened in spite of the fact that prostitution is
illegal in the country.
In Sierra Leone, prostitution takes place in different area such as brothels, bars,
hotel, on beaches etc.
According to the researchers view prostitution does not only meant for unmarried
man and woman or those without guarantee relationship but for legally wadded
spouse with many boyfriends and girlfriend could also practice prostitution
therefore prostitution could be a relative term or word and could be understood in
different ways by diffencent people from diffencent perspectives.
Prostitution can be one the way prostitutes and clients could contact
infection diseased such as HIV and AIDS, syphilis gonorrhea etc. through
sexual inter course although there are

the effects prostitution.
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
A lot of research has been done on prostitution the causes and effects of it.
The growth in urban area comes from both the increase in migration to the cities
tons and the fertility of urban population increases population.
Prostitution can load to umpteen health problem for the prostitution like cervical
can traumatic Bram injury HIV and AIDS STDS psychological disorder sets.
Prostitution also gives rise to problem like human trafficking and child prostitution
(United Nations).
Prostitution (sex workers) is blamed for much of the AIDS epidemic (world health
organization).
Prostitutes often have more immediate daily problem such as bad treatment by the
police low ways difficult or violent man (cheats) and problem with keeping clean
getting among enough food to eat and taking good care of their child/chider if
possible.
Prostitution may want to protect them soaves by using condom and other safer sex
practices but the clients who pay her can make thing difficult the client may
demand sex in the variant or Amin which can lead to injuries caused by the over
use of their delicate sexual organs chronic lower abdominal pain caused by
inflammation and mechanical trauma.

killed by some clients (man).
Since prostitution is illegal in some countries prostitutes are often deprived and
maltreated by their pins and often denied any legal rights in clouding protection
from the police drug and alcohol and also prone to abortion.
The aim of the study is to expanse the causes and effects by prostitution in Kinden
town community Bo city.
Therefore the product of this word will be of importance to be able to identify the
effect and cause of prostitution in kandeh town community Bo city and the develop
policies to minimize or eradicate prostitution.
The result of this research will be of value use to policy maker and the government
of Sierra Leone to enhance adequate jobs and also provide proficient skill work in
the country for those who may not be fortunate to acquire the formal education.
The and product of this work will be of relevance to the ministry of health and
sanitation in that it will hope with recommendation that will hope minimize
prostitution and also the spread of communicable diseases.
The and product of this research also is of greater use of community stake holder
government and international partners children and parent who may force or
maltreat their children to go on the street to practice prostitution.
LIMITATION OF STUDY
The research was limited in kandeh town community bo city because of financial
constrains / challenges so therefore could not limit his research in bo city as a who
time also is another huge challenge for the researcher because the researcher is a
and doce not have ample time to carry out the research work in all communion Bo
city.
Identifying the respondents is also a key problem therefore the researcher finds it
very difficult to interface and obtain authentic in formation from the respondent
Language barrio could be an extra additional challenge for the researcher since the
study area is a holerogenous ton since krio and English is mostly speaking
although there are different languages and tribes spoken in the country.
Negative attitudes about the respondent is also a big problem for the researcher
since the respondent could not various the purpose of the study
Instrumentation was also a great problem for the researcher to carry out his study
in the study area since it was the first time of the researcher to use it.
