1 GENERAL DESCRIPTIONS

The Personal Computer Memory Card International Association (PCMCIA) is an international standards body that defines and promotes the PC Card (formerly known as
"PCMCIA card") and ExpressCard standards. Although the organization's name refers to memory cards, its standards are not limited to memory devices. These cards can
be used for wireless connectivity, modem and other functions in laptop/notebook PCs that may be lacking them natively.

For PCMCIA usage and protections, adaptors are needed. The following adapters show respectively Sagem (now called Safran) and Teledyne PCMCIA card adapters. It is
advised to secure the Compact Flash card with a wide piece of tape as shown on photo. This will indeed prevent very fine dust accumulation into the adapter (particularly
in desert countries) and thus avoid possible intermittent connections and unreliabilities.

FDIMU operators can select as a recording device:

 Either a PCMCIA card.
 Or a Compact Flash (CF) card within a Compact Flash adapter. In this case, the operator must select a Compact Flash adapter that fits into the FDIMU PCMCIA
Card receptacle.

Figure 1: Sagem and Teledyne PCMCIA adapters

The PCMCIA functions (type of data to record, memory space allocation, and other options,..) are freely programmable by user through the FDIMU/DMU GSE.

Figure 2: PCMCIA card and types of saved data

Note: See recommendations regarding PCMCIA card characteristics for ACMS SW Standards from supplier TDY: SIL 2234320 No. 25 for A320 family, SIL 2234340-
12 for A330 Family and SED: SIL 360-31-1040/ 360-31-1064.

The PCMCIA card of the FDIMU can be used to record several data (ACMS and FDRS data), provided it is adequately configured for it (GSE programmable). PCMCIA card
can be configured to record:
- ACMS reports
- and/or DAR data
- and/or SAR data
- and/or QAR data (= copy of the FDR data for FDIMU equipment only, in full FDIMU configuration)
In a similar way to the recording on the PCMCIA media of an external QAR LRU equipment, it is also important to use an integrated FDIMU/DMU PCMCIA card with
adequate capacity in order to have efficient recording. The capacity must be chosen in accordance with the selected data recording speed to allow longer recording
autonomy and avoid the need for frequent download but also to limit the file size to ensure a proper decoding (a big file may causes some difficulties during decoding
step, depending on the tool used).

2 FDIMU / DMU PCMCIA INTERFACE

The FDIMU’s and some DMU’s provide PCMCIA interface capability (integrated PCMCIA card slot) which can be used:
- for the uploading of the S/W applications (for ACMS software only),
- and also for data recording.
The FDIU’s (FIN 2TU) do not provide PCMCIA interface.

TELEDYNE vendor.

Note2: The FDIMU/DMU PCMCIA card can be used for ACMS S/W loading only (not FDIU S/W loading). The FDIU S/W is loadable via PDL or MDDU interface.

3 PCMCIA CARD CONFIGURATION

PCMCIA card can be used (programmed) for recording ACMS data (Reports, SAR data, DAR data) or FDR data (QAR data). Such a PCMCIA recording option has proved
to be suitable to a large number of operators for flight data recording, particularly sparing the need for using an external QAR 3TU or 2TV LRU equipment or both.

The PCMCIA card of the DMU’s allows to record:

- Reports
- and/or DAR data
- and/or SAR data

The PCMCIA card of the FDIMU’s allows to record:

- Reports
- and/or DAR data
- and/or SAR data
- and/or QAR data (= copy of the FDR data)
Note that the PCMCIA recording functionality depends on the loaded ACMS S/W database and is programmable by GSE (with a standard AIRBUS programming provided
by default at delivery function of the standard AIRBUS ACMS S/W version installed).
The recording of the data may therefore not be activated or sufficient PCMCIA memory space may not be allocated for storage of a specific type of data. Other PCMCIA
functions are moreover reprogrammable at Operator’s convenience (wrap enable option, etc.)

It is therefore strongly recommended, in addition to the card size selection for a suitable recording autonomy, to ensure that the card has been properly configured to
record its desired set of data and with proper memory space allocated on the card.

EXAMPLE FOR SAGEM FDIMU’S:

The below information is an example of the default configuration applicable for an A319 A/C equipped with SAGEM FDIMU P/N ED48A100, loaded with ACMS standard
360-04020-020 & 360-04023-020 S/W version (AI05/V3406):

By default,
- only DAR data is recorded (neither the Reports, nor the SAR data, nor the QAR data are recorded)
- a specific memory space allocation in percentage has also been assigned by default (set to 20% for QAR and 80% for DAR allocation).

It is recommended to refer to the tool manual (GSE) from supplier in order to check the Memory Allocation implemented by default.

Note applicable for DMU software PN prior CEO IAE software -050 and CEO CFM software -045:
Despite above default 20% memory allocation for QAR data, the QAR recording onto PCMCIA card is not activated and therefore no QAR data is stored by default (only DAR
data will be recorded).
- if the standard database is loaded, only DAR data will be recorded on PCMCIA card,
- in order to have Report data (or QAR or SAR) additionally recorded onto the PCMCIA, the recording must be activated and the PCMCIA memory allocation
for these files must be configured (through SAGEM GSE tool).
This implies customization of the FDIMU database. The associated folders and data will then appear on the card accordingly.
For further information on this part and GSE customization aspects, SAGEM vendor can be contacted.

Note applicable from DMU software PNs CEO IAE software -050 and CEO CFM software -045:
The QAR recording onto PCMCIA card is activated by default as per below default PCMCIA Memory allocation:
- QAR data recording: 49%
- DAR data recording: 49%
- SAR data recording: 1%
- Reports recording: 1%

Above default PCMCIA Memory allocation can be customized through FDIMU database programming

Note applicable from DMU software PNs CFM-NEO software -055 and PW-NEO software -060:
The following default partitioning of the PCMCIA disk is implemented by default on NEO software:
- QAR data recording: 15%
- DAR data recording: 4%
- SAR data recording: 79%
- Reports Data recording: 2%

Note: between CEO and NEO, the default configuration size is different. To not lose data, Airbus recommends to use PCMCIA card size up to 32 GB.

4 PCMCIA RECORDING FILE STRUCTURE

The FDIMU/DMU stored data (ACMS reports, QAR / DAR / SAR raw data files) will be recorded onto the PCMCIA card in different format and according to specific disk
structure, as described below, depending on the involved equipment:

FOR SAGEM FDIMU:

- DAR data will be recorded as RECxxxxx.dat located under "A/C TAIL.REC" directory
- QAR data will be recorded as RECxxxxx.dat located under "A/C TAIL.QAR" directory
- Reports data will be recorded as Ryyxxxxx.txt, located under "A/C TAIL.REP > Report yy" directory
- SAR data will be recorded as SAxxxxxxx.dat located under "A/C TAIL.SAR > SAR_x" directory

Note: Digits xxxxx will identify each file individually (file numbering increment), while digits yy will correspond to the Report number.

Note that QAR stored data files are using the same format as DAR data files, whereas the directory name is different. It is therefore recommended to pay attention to it
when transferring the data to AIRBUS or to other QAR or DAR data requester for quick analysis.
The ACMS reports will therefore directly be stored in .txt readable format, which can be sent and read by the engine manufacturer or other data users without further
processing.

The other ACMS data (SAR/DAR/QAR) will be recorded in .dat format. These .dat files cannot be converted in a .txt format for readout. To decode these files, it is necessary
to reprocess them by using adequate GSEs, and to use the associated input specifications for readout (DAR/QAR data frame specifications or SAR programmed definitions
showing detailed frame mapping and bit encoding definitions).

FOR TELEDYNE FDIMU:

The PCMCIA card will contain a set of files written by the FDIMU used for ACMS reports / QAR / DAR / SAR data recording and may also include other files for other
purposes (e.g. upload files and mapping files).

Concerning data recording, the PCMCIA will always contain the same data files:

- DAR data will be recorded as dar.dat

- QAR data will be recorded as qar.dat
- Reports data will be recorded as msg.dat
- SAR data will be recorded as sarx.dat (Each SAR file correspond to a SAR channel)

5 FORMATTING GUIDELINES

PCMCIA card must be properly configured (prepared/formatted) before it is inserted to the FDIMU or DMU and used for ACMS data recording.

PCMCIA cards can be used for loading and recording and need to be formatted depending on the usage, software standards and card sizes (refer chapter 6).
PCMCIA cards for software loading have to be formatted in FAT 16.
PCMCIA cards for data recording have to be formatted in FAT 32 for ADC standard or FAT 16 for standard pre-ADC.
It is moreover recommended to re-format the cards at regular intervals when PCMCIA card is used for data recording.

SAGEM/TELEDYNE Vendors can be contacted directly for further advices on recommended cards and characteristics, or tools, compatible with the DMU or FDIMU
equipment when necessary.

Note: for formatting PCMCIA card, the tools to be used depend on the usage of the card, card size and FDIMU standard. Please refer to the supplier SIL in order
to have more information.

FORMATTING TOOL FOR SAGEM FDIMU

For pre-ADC standard (before xxx-0185 standard), it is mandatory to use PC Card Manager (PCM) tool (delivered by Sagem at the same time with FDIMU) for
formatting PCMCIA cards.

For standard post-ADC (since xxx-0185), to format PCMCIA card in FAT 32 is possible via Windows (only for PCMCIA cards used for data recording, for FAT16
formatting, PCM must be used).
PCMCIA reader recommended by Sagem is OMNIDRIVE PRO.

Figure 4: OmniDrive: PCMCIA card reader fro Sagem

In addition, the PCMCIA card can also be erased by the DMU or FDIMU itself via the AIDS MCDU Menu. This menu does not format the PCMCIA card in the DOS format.
ED45A300, ED48A100 & ED48A200: MCDU MENU / <AIDS / PCMCIA> / <DISK DIRECTORY / <COMMAND / *DISK FORMAT

FORMATTING TOOL FOR TELEDYNE FDIMU

There are several ways for formatting the PCMCIA cards (depending of the use of PCMCIA card):

1. Using a PC having a Windows version prior Windows 98 OS installed  formatting directly in FAT or FAT16 (FAT 16 for software loading or data recording on
pre-ADC software).
2. Using a PC having Windows 98, Windows 2000 or ulterior windows versions OS installed  in that case, the Teledyne TFT tool must be used for formatting
in FAT 16 (software loading on all software or data recording on pre-ADC software). Teledyne XPFT tool is now obsolete and has been replaced with
Teledyne Formatting Tool (TFT). This is free of charge tool can be downloaded on Teledyne website.
3. To format the PCMCIA card for data recording in FAT32, the RUFUS tool (open source) is recommended by Teledyne. But formatting in FAT32 with
Windows OS is also possible (since Windows 98 or ulterior windows versions, formatting is by default in FAT3) but PCMCIA card size up to 32 GO.

PCMCIA reader recommended by Airbus for Teledyne is EasyReader.

Figure 5: EasyReader : PCMCIA card reader for Teledyne

6 PCMCIA CARD CAPACITIES

It is important to use PCMCIA card with adequate capacity in order to have efficient recording. The capacity must be chosen in accordance with the selected recording
speed to allow longer recording autonomy and avoid the need for frequent download.

As an example, given a 44% memory allocated for DAR part, and a recording speed of 256 wps (256 wps = 2 MB/h, 512 wps = 4 MB/h and
1024 wps = 8 MB):
- a 512 MB PCMCIA card could allow to get around 120 Hrs of DAR data recording.
- a 1024 MB PCMCIA card could allow to get around 240 Hrs of DAR data recording.

This number of flight covered will however depend on the programmed trigger conditions and the way the aircraft is operated.
A speed programming of 128 wps will multiple the above autonomy by a factor 2 and so forth.

SAGEM RECOMMENDATIONS

The memory size shall not be less than 64 Mbytes.

Depending of the FDIMU standard (pre ADC or ADC available, FOMAX active, etc.), the recommended size is max 2 Gb in FAT 16 and max 64 Gb in FAT 32.

For more detail, please refer to Sagem SIL 360-31-1065.

 The free remaining space can be checked directly on the MCDU through the AIDS Disk Ident menu:

Figure 6: PCMCIA Sagem remaining space

7 SPECIFICITIES FOR AIRCRAFT FITTED WITH AIRCRAFT DATA COLLECTION (ADC) / EXTENDED DATA CAPABILITY

1) FDIMU Software PN and availability planning

Refer to ISI 31.36.00129

2) Operational use of the PCMCIA card for TELEDYNE FDIMU with ADC function activated:

Storage of the ADC data takes place only at FOMAX level (ADC data is not stored at FDIMU level).

In the context of ACMS software standard with ADC capability for SKYWISE/FOMAX, there are some specific requirements for PCMCIA cards use:
- PCMCIA cards for software loading have to be formatted in FAT 16
The software loading should be carried out as per AMM task 31.36.00.710.008 (using 3 different software: 10TVSW2, 10TVSW8, 10TVSW9)
- PCMCIA cards for data recording have to be formatted in FAT 32

Memory allocation:

The storage memory allocation has been changed with the introduction of the ADC capability. Therefore a specific card storage capacity is recommended as follows:

 Memory allocation is 0.05% DAR/ 0.25% QAR/ 1.2% SAR reports/ 98.4% ADC for 10TVSW9-PNR ABF39A1UTAL0000 (load 0, applicable for all
engine types).

The PCMCIA Cards or combination of PCMCIA to CF adapter Cards shall be extended to at least 4 GB (refer to chapter 6 PCMCIA CARD CAPACITIES).

Basically 4 GB storage cards minimum is needed for FDIMU to allow DAR, SAR, QAR being transmitted to FOMAX. Indeed, files for DAR need to be concluded at 1 MB
before being sent to FOMAX (0.05% of 4GB equals 2MB, which is greater than 1MB).
Below 4GB, QAR DAR and SAR cannot be sent to FOMAX.

 Memory allocation is 38% DAR/ 20% QAR/ 10% SAR reports/ 2% ACMS reports / 30% ADC for 10TVSW9- PNR ABF4BA1UTALC001 (load 1,
CFM-CEO) and ABF5EA1UTALV001 (load 1, IAE-CEO engines).

The PCMCIA Cards or combination of PCMCIA to CF adapter Cards for the Load1 is recommended to be 4GB (depending on airline operations). Estimation of allocated

Figure 10: PCMCIA memory estimations depending on card size, allocation and recording speed

Note: All the sizes and allocations are given as estimations and may slightly differ after FAT32 formatting.

 Memory allocation is 14% DAR/ 14% QAR/ 10% SAR reports/ 10% ACMS reports / 52% ADC for 10TVSW9- PNR ABF48A1UTALC002 (load 1.3,
CFM-CEO) and ABF5CA1UTALV003 (load 1.3, IAE-CEO engines).

The PCMCIA Cards or combination of PCMCIA to CF adapter Cards for the Load 1.3 is recommended to be 16GB (depending on airline operations).
AIRBUS recommends for above mentioned configuration to retrieve the data available on the PCMCIA minimum once a month.
The content of the card should be reformatting before the re-installation on aircraft.

a) PCMCIA Formatting tool:

 Windows 7, and upwards, disk formatting tool for card size up to 32GB
 A specific formatting tool can be used for card size greater than 32GB (Rufus 2.16 or 3.0)
 Please follow the below instruction for PCMCIA formatting procedure.
Pay a particular attention to point 4 associated to the recording card (Make sure Quick format option is
not selected)

For software installation purpose:

For recording purpose:
3) Operational use of the PCMCIA card for SAFRAN FDIMU with ADC function activated:

Storage of the ADC data takes place only at FOMAX level (ADC data is not stored at FDIMU level).
In the context of ACMS software standard with ADC capability for SKYWISE/FOMAX, there are some specific requirements for PCMCIA cards use:
- PCMCIA cards for software loading have to be formatted in FAT 16(refer to SAFRAN SIL 360-31-1040)
- PCMCIA cards for data recording have to be formatted in FAT 32(refer to SAFRAN SIL 360-31-1064)
The memory size shall be up to 64Gbytes (For ADC, at least 4 Gbytes are required, 32Gbytes are recommended)
If the ADC functionality of the FDIMU is not enabled, a lower capacity PCMCIA can be used.

*Specific advice on PCMCIA card for dataloading purpose:

– AIRBUS recommend to use 1 or 2 PCMCIA cards for data-loading (refer to SED SIL 360-31-1065 for the FAT format and card size supplier recommendations).

8 TELEDYNE WIRELESS GROUND LINK - QUICK ACCESS RECORDER (WQAR) & PQAR (NON-WIRELESS)

The WQAR contains two PCMCIA cards installed in the PCMCIA card drive. The left side slot contains an Internal PCMCIA card that provides internal memory
storage for the WQAR software. The right side slot contains a Media PCMCIA Card that provides storage for recorded data (DAR/QAR/ACMS data). The Recording
Media PCMCIA card must contain a DOS FAT16 file system and can be either with or without partition.

The Internal PCMCIA card uses a non-DOS format and is automatically formatted when installed in the WQAR. The Internal PCMCIA Card cannot be used in the
media PC Card slot without first being reformatted by the user with a DOS FAT16 file system. Units are delivered from the factory with media PCMCIA Cards
sized for the customers individual need (128 MB to 2 GB) and are pre-installed at the factory.

For WQAR (wireless) configurations, both Internal & Media PCMCIA Card must be of the same size. Internal PCMCIA Card is covered with a bracket that avoid
it to be removed from the unit. For PQAR (non-wireless) configurations, the minimum PCMCIA Card size is 128 megabytes and maximum supported is 2 GB.
