ENGLISH LANGUAGE PANEL: AR 2 SWOT ANALYSIS OCTOBER 2020

STRENGTHS WEAKNESSES
PAPER 1 PAPER 1
S1 15 pupils took the advice to answer descriptive Q1, 8 W1 Some pupils could not comprehend the task and also
pupils answered Q4-Expository, 5 pupils answered Q2- unable to construct simple sentences correctly (not
argumentative, and 5 pupils answered Q3-narrative. looking at the grammar)
S2 Some of them were able to include some dialogues and W2 Most of them couldn’t write the modal verbs correctly –

S3 Some pupils too could adapt the essays learned in class W3 All the pupils are very weak in verbs form-especially past

S8 6 pupils managed to score 8-11 in Section A. This PAPER 2:

S9 14 pupils scored full marks in Section B. W9 Most of the pupils still unable to address the 3 parts in

OPPORTUNITIES THREATS

STRATEGIES TO OVERCOME WEAKNESSES:

1 Ensure that all 33 pupils answer all questions in the coming exam after many
practices and exposure within these 2 months.
2 Attempt all past years papers from 2013 to 2019 and share samples of
excellent model answers for essays.
3 Drilling and answering SETS OF QUESTIONS from STORM Module also in
Module for GALUS and CEMERLANG according to the groups appointed after
AR2.
4 Focused-Modular approach for different section in Paper 2 based on pupils
need.
5 Use complete essays but with wrong verb form to be corrected into the
correct form especially past tense form to address the pupils’ weaknesses in
narrative essay.
6 Peer Learning- to read, evaluate, edit friend’s essays before hand in their
work.
7 Ensure that corrections are done to their errors.
8 One-to-one meeting and discussion with the teacher after essay was marked
for personal review on own essay.
9 Compilation of excellent model answers for essays questions.
10 Remedial on building basic sentence structures (weak group) and enrichment
on variety of sentence types (average group)
