RESPONSIVE ENVIRONMENT –
SPACE IN URBAN DESIGN

TOPIC 1.

According to the previous discussion, Responsive Environments, aim

to maximize the degree of choice available to end-users of a built environment by
offering seven design qualities: permeability, variety, legibility, robustness, visual
appropriateness, richness, and personalization – which were identified as key urban
design qualities that help to make urban open spaces responsive by offering a high
degree of choice to a wide range of people at various times.

It also discussed Space in Urban Design – which has long been

recognized as an important tool for improving urban quality of life. Although design is
only one of many tools used to create popular urban environments, it has a significant
impact on the quality of the urban experience.

From sustainability to safety, the benefits of urban public spaces help meet a wide
range of community needs while also serving as a connecting point that boosts
community health and livability. They provide numerous opportunities for people to
come together and engage with the community.
