The Train the Trainer Manual was developed by Izmir Probation Directorate with
contribution of all the project partners in the project titled “VRforDrugRehabilitation:
Developing and Using Virtual Reality Technology for Rehabilitation of Drug Users in
Probation Service” – No. 2018-3-TR01-KA205-061550, financed by EU ERASMUS+
programme.
The project assumes that using life-like scenarios in virtual environments would help
users who have stopped using drugs make progress while coping with craving
situations, ensuring stress management, reducing anger management problems and
expressing his/her feelings and thoughts in a healthy way. It is the first project to
prepare, apply and share a methodology for drug rehabilitation by using virtual reality
technology in European countries and Turkey. Starting from 2017, idea for the project
works has been carried out with the collaboration of Ege University Drug Abuse,
Toxicology and Pharmaceutical Science Department and the Izmir Probation
Directorate.
The project is mainly based on the Research-Action method by K. Lewin. The project
aims to develop the following Intellectual Outputs:
IO3. Charting A New Trainer Training for youth worker experts about how to use
VR technology for drug addiction rehabilitation
This manual will guide the probation experts and other experts who work/study in the
addiction field involved in The VRforDrugRehabilitation Project to be trained as
trainers, and therefore train others.
Train the Trainer Sections: After explaining what needs to be prepared before the
sessions as trainers of the VRforDrugRehabilitation Programme, each of the 6
sessions was explained one by one in detail. Afterwards, it was explained what to do
in case of problems that may arise during the sessions, and case examples were given
for a better understanding.

1. TRAINING ADULT LEARNERS
According to Malcolm Knowles, there are differences in the learning ways between
adults and children. In 1988, the term “andragogy” was used by Knowles to distinguish
between pedagogy and adult learning. At its core, the theory, which includes five
assumptions and four principles of andragogy about adult learners, has grown over
time and has been adapted many times.
From a historical perspective, all knowledge, according to popular opinion in the late
seventeenth century, derives from experience. John Locke (1690), believed that the
mind was a "blank slate," at birth, and that all knowledge was learned through sensory
experience. Thorndike devised the law of effect, which stated that learning occurs
when it has a positive impact on the individual, as well as the law of exercise, which
stated that repetition reinforces learning. Skinner (1954) established that a basic
stimulus-response paradigm with a reward to ensure an adequate response to a
stimulus could be used to demonstrate distinct forms of learning. Chomsky (1975)
contends that behaviorist experiments do not fully explain how higher-order skills like
language learning are acquired. Our brains are wired, according to Chomsky, to learn
higher-order skills, which we may then develop and enhance via practice. Piaget, a
cognitive constructivist, investigated the various types of knowledge that a young
person might acquire at different stages of life (Piaget, 1952).
There was a corpus of studies toward the end of the twentieth century that suggested
adults learn differently than children and that andragogy was a better term for this
process than pedagogy. Adults and children are thought to be different in terms of their
motivation to study. Despite the fact that the explanations are no longer obvious,
Knowles (Knowles et al. 2005) claimed that adult learners differ from child learners in
six ways:
• The need to know
• The learners’ self-concept
• The role of the learners’ experiences
• Readiness to learn
• Orientation to learning
• Motivation
Concrete experience
(FEELING)
Formalisation of
abstract concepts
and generalisations
(THINKING)
Learning is centered on the mental and psychological processes of the mind, not on
behavior, according to cognitive learning theories. So, Cognitive learning theories
concerned with perception and information processing. (Piaget 1952; Bruner 1966;
Ausubel 1968; Gagne et al. 1992).
Experiential learning has affected adult education by making educators responsible for
generating, providing access to, and organizing events in order to assist learning.
There are four stages of expperiential learning: concrete experience, reflective
observation, abstract conceptualization and active experimentation (For further
reading, you can find resources in reading suggestions).
In the end, thanks to all that, there are important points to consider for designing
training contents for adults. Adults learn best in an air in which they feel both safe and
tested (Imel, 1994). The powerful educator will accomplish a harmony between being
well disposed and testing the understudies, so that the understudies feel good in the
class yet not so loosened up that they neglect to assume a sense of ownership with
their learning. It is especially critical to offer grown-up understudies the chance to share
pertinent encounters.
2.1. Epidemiology
Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and behavioral addiction are prevalent in many
countries and require a multidisciplinary approach. Unfortunately, only a minority
(7.1%) of patients even in high income countries, receives adequate treatment.
- Around 83 million or 29.9% of adults (aged 15-64) in the European Union are
estimated to have used illicit drugs at least once in their lifetime.
- Experience of drug use is more frequently reported by males (50.6 million) than
females (32.8 million).
- The most commonly tried drug is cannabis (47.6 million males) and (30.9 million
females).
- An estimated 17.4 million young adults (ages 15-34) used drugs in the last year
(16.9%).
Craving:
It is the term used to describe any change in perception, mood, thinking processes and
motor skills that results from the effect of a drug(s) on our central nervous system.
Withdrawal:
It is the process of cutting out, or cutting back on, addictive substances, such as drugs
or alcohol, or behaviors such as gambling.
Tolerance:
Changes related to these deteriorations in the brain in people who use substances can
be long-lasting and lead to harmful behaviors (National Institute on Drug Abuse-NIDA).
Addiction is not only with substance use, but there are also some behavioral addictions
other than substance; such as gambling, internet, food, sex, shopping addiction etc.
Substance use is a very important problem that causes physical, social, psychological
harm and legal problems.
The rates of substance use are increasing in many European countries and around the
world.
For example, the child performs a behavior, receives a positive verbal response from
her/his mother as a reward, and as a result, the child does the same behavior again,
and the child's behavior is reinforced.
Dopamine does not only function in the reward system, but it also has a function in the
cardiovascular system that determines heart contractility and pulse rate.
It is known that dopamine has a very fundamental role in the regulation of reward
response in addiction-related processes, between synapses (spaces between brain
cells (neurons) and functional basic unit in the brain.
The effects of an addictive substance are one thing, the addictive effects are another
thing.
Which means….
Although alcohol, tobacco, gambling and other illicit substances use dopaminergic
pathways and common systems in terms of addiction mechanisms, the effects of the
substances are different from each other.
E.g; Psychostimulants “stimulate” people, alcohol and some drugs can have
suppressive effects called “sedation” that aggravate people, bring them closer to sleep.
In other words, although the effects are the opposite, their addictive effects are
common, but the intoxication properties of the substances and the effect of the
substance on the person can be completely separated.
Addiction is a neural adaptation process that occurs due to repetitive substance use
(repetitive related behavior pattern in behavioral addictions).
When the brain is exposed to a continuous effect; a structural change occurs in the
brain.
Some examples of such conditions are blood glucose level, body temperature, fluid
balance, pH of extracellular fluids, ion concentration, etc.
The formation of addiction is a process, but also ending the addiction is a process.
2.3.3. Receptors
Every neuron in our brain has receptors on its surface that receive signals from nearby
neurons. And these receptors can be affected by drug use (NIDA).
For example, if nicotine reaches the brain, there are nicotinicacetylcholine receptors to
which it binds, and as a result of binding, nicotine shows its effect in the brain.
Repetitive substance intakes may include changes in the number of these receptors,
in the prevalence of representation areas in the brain, or in the sensitivity of the
receptor.
For instance; repetitive use of alcohol - increasing the dose needed to achieve the
same effect
Nucleus Accumbens:
INAc Core, INAc Shell, rNAc core, rNAc shell are the four subdivisions of nucleus
accumbens (Nac):
Figure 2. Axial MRI view of nucleus accumbens and it’s subdivisions in the brain (Wang et al., 2019)
Prefrontal Cortex:
It is where information from different sources is organized and combined and the
behavior to be revealed is decided.
-In the evolutionary process, the more advanced species have grown in volume.
-Prefrontal cortex and age variables are correlated with each other. As the individual
ages, the prefrontal cortex develops.
The prefrontal cortex is the part that takes the longest to develop during human
development. Myelination continues until puberty.
-Child or a young adult may have difficulty in making the right decision in their behavior
due to the immaturity of prefrontal cortex development.
For example, after spending time in a bar with his/her friends by drinking alcohol, a
young adult may decide to ride a motorcycle to have some fun in spite of its danger.
- It is the region where the dopaminergic cell bodies of the mesocorticolimbic system
originate.
- Motivation, orgasm
Figure 4. Approximate location of ventral tegmental area in human brain (Duvernoy, 1995)
Amygdala:
Amygdala
Figure 5. Sagittal orientation of human brain, the arrow indicates amygdala location (He et al. 2014)
The region with a primary role in the formation of emotional memory and emotional
reactions.
Addictive substances increase dopamine in the nucleus accumbens very quickly and
in very high amounts compared to natural processes. In other words, the main factors
that determine the potential for addiction are the dopaminergic burst in the nucleus
accumbens, the magnitude of the explosion and the rate of the explosion. The more
explosive it has, the higher the potential for addiction.
For example, when a cigarette is smoked or inhaled, nicotine reaches the brain in an
average of 7 seconds, and a dopaminergic explosion occurs in the brain in 10 seconds
when taken intravenously.
In such a rapid burst of dopamine;
Dopamine is the basis for motivation, learning, or the maintenance of certain behaviors.
Natural boosters can be eating, sexual behavior, exercise, and other boosters for
achievement/pleasure. While these boosters usually require a longer and more
laborious process, the dopamine discharge through the substance is sudden and
explosive (10 times!).
As a result, the brain, which easily reaches dopamine and other neurotransmitters,
determines a kind of preference.
But, this easy way leads to structural and functional damages in the brain.
There are withdrawal syndrome situations that vary according to the properties of the
substances, continue for different durations and occur in different severity.
This is related to the difference in the changes that occur in the adaptation processes.
Stages of Change:
● Precontemplation
● Contemplation
● Preparation
● Action
● Maintenance
Progress
Precotemplation Maintenance
Contemplation Preparation Action
People in this stage aren't planning on changing a problem behavior (or starting a
healthy one) anytime soon (usually attributed to the next six months).
Precontemplators are frequently uninformed about the dangers of their actions. Many
people also fail at making changes, becoming frustrated and regressing back to the
Precontemplation stage. The TTM's inclusion of the Precontemplation stage is
significant since people in this stage make up a big percentage of those who participate
in risky or unhealthy activities. The TTM can help guide treatment and preventative
initiatives by addressing the needs of these people instead of disregarding them.
Contemplation Stage
When a person realizes that they have a desire to change a certain behavior, he or
she enters the Contemplation stage (typically for the next six months). Individuals
consider the benefits and drawbacks of changing their habit at this stage.
Contemplators also make up a high percentage of persons who participate in
unhealthy behaviors, as ambivalence about the benefits and drawbacks of change
keeps many people stuck in this stage. One strategy to assist Contemplators in
progressing toward taking action to improve their behavior is to resolve their
ambivalence.
Preparation Stage
When people reach the Preparation stage, the benefits of trying to change a problem
behavior exceed the drawbacks, and action is planned for the near future, usually
within the next thirty days. Many people in this stage have tried, but failed, to change
or improve their behavior over the last year. Preparers frequently have a strategy in
place, but they may not be fully committed to it. Individuals in this stage can benefit
from a variety of classic action-oriented behavior change programs.
Action Stage
Typically within the last six months, the Action stage represents the start of actual
change in criteria behavior. According to the Transtheoretical Model, an individual is
halfway through the process of behavior change at this moment, which is where many
theories of behavior change begin. This is also the time when they're most likely to
relapse and regress to an earlier stage. Relapse back to problem behavior is likely if
an individual has not fully prepared for change and committed to their chosen plan of
action.
Maintenance Stage
When people have successfully acquired and maintained behavior change for at least
six months, they are said to be at the Maintenance stage. While the possibility of
relapse is still present in this stage, it is less so, and as a result, people need to put in
less effort to change.
Many other theories disregard a component of behavior change that The Stages of
Change addresses: change is a process that occurs over time. While progress through
the Stages of Change might be linear, it is more frequent for it to be non-linear. Rather
than progressing through the phases in a regular order, people frequently recycle
through them or regress to previous stages from later ones. Change happens at its
own pace, more often in spurts than at a steady pace. It is not uncommon for someone
to spend years in pre-contemplation and then move quickly to Action.
Virtual Reality is a technological tool which is used for interventions for addicted
patients.
Mindfulness has been applied as clinical interventions based on the notion that it is a
method for training attention and awareness (Kabat-Zinn,1982) to cope with
addiction problems and to provide stress management in daily life.
For instance;
This co-presence of elevated alpha and theta may signify a state of relaxed alertness
which is conducive to mental health (Lomas et al., 2015)
Understanding the link between mindfulness and neural correlates in addiction can
inform the refinement of Mindfulness-Based Interventions (MBIs) to produce larger
clinical effects and additional long-term therapeutic benefits.
An emerging body of research suggests that MBIs have so far proved effective in
reducing craving, reward sensitivity, stress reactivity and negative affect on a
general level in substance use disorder (SUD).
On the other hand, using mindfulness techniques is a very innovative tool to use it on
VR environment for patients with addiction.
According to Navarro-Haro et. al; a group of participants who are mindfulness experts
(N=42) did mindfulness exercises in VR environments and after VR experience,
participants reported significantly less sadness, anger and anxiety. Also, they reported
being significantly more relaxed. Participants reported a moderate to strong illusion of
going inside the 3D computer generated world (i.e. moderate to high “presence” in VR)
and showed high acceptance of VR as a technique to practice mindfulness.
Table 1. Means with Standard Deviations (SD) and within-Group Comparisons for State of Mindfulness and
Emotional State (Navarro-Haro MV et al., 2017)
- Many visual and auditory stimulus items can be provided to the patient in a way that
creates a realistic effect.
- It may reduce lack of motivation and/or attention when it is compared to the traditional
interventions.
- It may cost less time of a session for both expert and patient since its intensive
stimulis.
2.6.2. Disadvantages
- It is expensive.
- It is unreal.
- It is not suitable for every patient. It is not suitable for people with severe substance
use, visual impairment or epilepsy.
- Before each intervention to the patient, it requires technical (charging, checking for
malfunctions, checking for software-related error codes, etc.) and hygiene cleaning
preparation procedure.
Within the scope of the project, this program was tested and validated in the probation
and penitentiary institutions in Turkey, Portugal and Romania with substance use
problems between the ages of 18-30. In addition, studies are continuing to make it
applicable to different age groups with the cooperation of all project partners with the
supervision of Ege University Institute on Drug Abuse, Toxicology and Pharmaceutical
Science.
The five factors of the FFMQ are: observe, describe, act with awareness, non-judging,
and non-reactivity.
There are original FFMQ and short forms. There is not short form of FFMQ in each
partner country (Portuguese, English, Turkish and Romanian). Thus, each FFMQ scale
will be used in the expert web surface and it will differ due to its language.
The scenario flow has been created and are based on Prochaska's Transtheoretical
Model, Prochaska and DiClemente's stages of change (Prochaska et al., 1997) and
Kabat-Zinn's mindfulness approach (Kabat-Zinn & Chapman-Waldrop, 1988). The
process of becoming addicted involves forming a new habitual behavior as opposed to
adapting or stopping an existing behavior. The transtheoretical model proposes that
healthy behavior change consists of pre-contemplation, contemplation, preparation,
action, and maintenance stages. The scenario assumes that the user is at least in the
pre-contemplation or contemplation stage.
Evaluation of the addiction process includes what affects the movement towards
addiction, how addictions arise, and what needs to be corrected in the recovery
process as a result.
For this reason, certain scales and forms will be applied in this program to be
compatible with the scenario.
- The scenario flow consists of sessions with or without VR that the user must
attend at certain frequencies. In order to switch to the next session, the previous
session must be completed.
- The starting point is designed as a cabin in the forest and a door which is
opened to the nature environment. The user will be accompanied by a virtual
human avatar in each session. The door of the cabin opens to the nature
environment (seaside/beach, forest, etc.). In the cabin, in the woods or by the beach
at every session.
1- First of all, we download the "Oculus" application, which is available in the Appstore
and Playstore, to the phone. Then we need to log in to the application with the Oculus
Developer account.
3- You must then merge this account in the Oculus app on the phone with a Facebook
account with the phone number you just entered to create an account.
4- You can now open the glasses. You must introduce these glasses to the Oculus app
on the phone. You can do this by clicking the "Devices" button from the buttons at the
bottom of the application. After adding the device, you must activate the "Developer
Mode" in the interface.
5- Now we can install our ".apk" application on the Oculus Quest 2 VR headset. For
this we need a computer. You must install the Oculus Developer Hub application on
the computer.
6- You can download the Oculus Developer Hub application from the link
https://developer.oculus.com/downloads/package/oculus-developer-hub-win
7- After the installation is complete, you must log in to this application with the same
Oculus Developer account. Then you have to connect the VR glasses to the computer
with a cable.
8- After the glasses match the application on the computer, you can now click on the
"App Distribution" tab in the application interface and drag our ".apk" extension file to
the interface that opens. The glasses still need to be connected to the computer during
this process.
9- In this whole process, there will be situations where we need to give approval for
the pairing from the glasses in cases such as the application on the phone and the
application on the computer and the pairing of the glasses. In those parts, it is
necessary to give approval from the glasses and make progress.
10- After our application with the ".apk" extension is installed on the glasses, we need
to turn on the hand tracking setting in the interface of the glasses before opening the
application. This setting allows us to control the glasses with our hands instead of the
controls for the glasses. In our application with the ".apk" extension, this setting should
be turned on because there is a hand control. After turning on this setting, we need to
put the controls vertically on the table.
11- You can now run the application with the ".apk" extension that you installed from
the Oculus Developer Hub application or the applications installed in the glasses.

“Now there are some open-ended questions I want to ask you. It will take about 5
minutes on average. I want you to share the first things that come to mind in as much
detail as possible. Okay?”
Patient: “This virtual reality experience was very good for me. First time I've
experienced such a thing.”
Patient: “There were moving objects. It felt real but sometimes it was hard for me to
follow.”
Patient: “I think it has been a useful program. Good luck to you. It may benefit patients.”
Expert: ”Did anything disturb you during the session? If so, can you please describe
it?
Patient: “No, nothing bothered me.”
Expert: “What are your expectations from this psychoeducation program?” (Only at
the first session it will be asked)”
Patient: “It may be useful to me. Actually, I don't think I need much. But I can still learn
things that I don't know, albeit a little. I think it's worth attending.”
Expert: “What gains do you think you have from this psychoeducation program?” (Only
at the last session it will be asked)
Patient: “I learned mindfulness exercises. I hope I can apply it in my daily life as much
as possible. Also, I did not have such detailed information about the negative
consequences of the substance and its effects on the brain. Learning new information
made me feel good.”
The aim of the first course is to introduce the candidate trainers to the basic concepts
of addiction, the general objectives of the VRforDrugRehabilitation Program and its
advantages on the addicted people in correctional settings and to teach assessment
methods, using VR technology, which are applied in substance misuse rehabilitation
interventions. Trainees (psychologists, social workers, etc.) will learn some technical
elements of VR therapy. In this framework, the first course includes to teach VR
fundamentals and therapy fundamentals, technical elements of VR in therapy,
Technical elements of VR in therapy, Putting VR therapy into practice (2 stages), Work
session: Continuation case study, Work session: Continuation case study contains.
Unlike the assessment tools that experts currently use in the probation system, the
VRforDrugRehabilitation Program, which is a VR technology supported program in the
field of addiction, receives training on what kind of assessment tools can be used and
how they should be used. This course consists of 5 full days in total.
5.6. Trainer Training about How to Use and Adapt Virtual Reality to
Probation System Rehabilitation Models (COURSE-2)
The aim of this course is to provide in-depth conceptual training to practitioners of the
VRforDrugRehabilitation Program. In this context, applied training is given to the
practitioner candidates about the transtheoretical model and mindfulness approach
and exemplary practices. While each session of the program is explained, it is
supported by both VR experience and theoretical narration.
In the third phase of the course, the aim is; To contribute to the candidate participants
in finding solutions to the difficulties they encounter in using virtual reality equipment
and to provide an environment for them to practice solution methods by simulating
possible problems. VRforDrugRehabilitation Program; It is a program where
practitioners must use at least intermediate digital competencies. Each stage of the
course builds on these existing intermediate digital skills. This course consists of 5 full
days in total.
Controller
Generally, VR goggles products are offered for sale in the market with 2 controllers for
right and left hand. However, in this first version of the VRforDrugRehabilitation
Program, the controllers are designed to be used only by the specialist to open the
relevant software program and make it ready for the patient. So sick; During the
VRforDrugRehabilitation Program, it will not need any controller devices. Thus, the
patient will have a very comfortable basic technical experience. Participants who will
be trainers/educators are taught by the master trainers how to use the controller
devices in practitioner training and are supported by workshops.

session as much as you can under these questions, please.
1. How were the pre-interviews with the cases for you as an expert during
the before the sessions?
2. How were the first sessions with the cases for you as an expert during
the pilot programme?
3. How were the second sessions with the cases for you as an expert
during the the pilot programme?

about 5 minutes on average. I want you to share the first things that come
to mind in as much detail as possible.
If so, can you please
describe it?
Patient: “It may be useful to me. Actually, I don't think I need much. But I can still learn
things that I don't know, albeit a little. I think it's worth attending.”
Expert: “What gains do you think you have from this psychoeducation
program?” (Only at the last session it will be asked)
Patient: “I learned mindfulness exercises. I hope I can apply it in my daily life as much
as possible. Also, I did not have such detailed information about the negative
consequences of the substance and its effects on the brain. Learning new information
made me feel good.”

VRFORDRUGREHABILITATION
PROGRAMME
HANDOUT-1
The purpose of the VRforDrugRehabilitation programme is to
provide you with some suggestions and exercises that can help you stay
away from substance use. There are some information below which may
contribute to your process during and after this programme in your life.
The second false belief is the phrase "There's nothing wrong with
using it once". Even using the substance once poses many risks and
harms to the life of the individual. We can say that this erroneous thought
is the biggest reason for individuals who quit the substance to start using
it again as before.

PROGRAMA VRFORDRUGREHABILITATION
PANFLETO-1

after you quit the substance. Congratulations for that! VRforDrugRehabilitation
Programme aims to support you in this matter. For this, you have been learning
some mindfulness-based exercises during this programme to increase your
stress management which you may need after giving substance up in your life.
Mindfulness is an approach that teaches us to stay away from negative
emotions that constantly occupy our minds and disturb us, to realize our
thoughts and feelings without judging ourselves, and to focus on the present
moment without dwelling on the past and the future. Mindfulness is a skill that
can be developed. For this, you have been learning some basic exercises in this
programme. Reading these handout notes and having mindfulness practice
regularly will make it easier for you to benefit more from the program and getting
or increasing your stress management skills.
“Try to find the point in your body where you most clearly experience the
feeling of breath.”
“Some people notice their breathing most clearly with the heaving of their
chest or stomach… Others feel it at the tip of their nose or in their throat. There
is no such thing as a right or wrong point.”
“You're just trying to discover where you most clearly feel the flow of your
breath.”
“After discovering the point where you feel your breath most clearly, observe
the inward and outward movements of your breath with curiosity.”
“You will immediately be able to notice that your attention has shifted from
your breath.”
“Maybe you thought you couldn't do this exercise or you felt bored. This is
perfectly natural and not a problem. Without struggling with this situation and
without judging yourself, just realize that your mind is distracted.”
“Don't try to stop the thoughts that come into your mind...”
“In this exercise you are learning to notice when your thoughts are pulling you
out of the present moment and then patiently, gently, and curiously turn your
attention to your breath.”

PANFLETO-2
programa.
gestão do stress.
--Fim do exercício--

PROGRAMME
HANDOUT-3
You are in a period when you are more open to some changes in your life after you quit the
substance and you are endeavoring for it. Congratulations once again and congratulate
yourself please!
Remember that to be able to create opportunities to practice what you learned about mindful
breathing exercise in your daily life in the last session. The goal here is to notice your thoughts
and feelings, to observe without judgment and try to control them.
Trust yourself on that you will develop this skill by practicing the exercises you have been
learning in this program often!
You may find some recommendations about family relationships and close relationships which
you can use in your daily life.
How lucky we are to have a mother and father who gave birth to us. Some of us
also have children. Everyone has a mother, a father, or at least an elder to replace
them. There are always positive, happy memories as a child. With a mother, father,
siblings, or a relative or a close friend… Everyone has a history with their parents or
the people they spent time with while growing up. If our past is not beautiful, we can
create a beautiful past. So if you live this moment deeply, tomorrow this moment will
be a good moment and this moment will be a good past. We are living in the present
moment and remembering the past well is the first step towards making the past
better. So, I hope you can live like this throughout this program, whenever you think
about the time you're in. Right now, you are at ease.. at peace..…and in the
environment you are into…After leaving to read this handout, when you return to your
routine, we hope that this peaceful moment will remain as a memory that you will add
to your beautiful past.
If we are a parent we should take good care of our children and as a child we
should take good care of our parents. Sometimes if we just show our respect and
gratitude, we can already make others happy. Parents, caregivers; If we do something
for their children and appreciate it as their children, we make them happy. But if we
think that it is their duty, we cannot make them happy. Sometimes we have a difficult
moment with others and it becomes too much and we suffer. Sometimes we get angry
at each other, parents and children, sometimes anger turns into hatred and we don't
even want that person to exist. Sometimes we want to get away from our family. We
may not want any relationship with them. Because they hurt us. Sometimes parents
may want to get away from their children. But where does this divergence go?
Although we do not want them to exist, they, our parents, are still within us. The best
thing to do, then, is to come back to ourselves to deal with our suffering and hardship.
We can't escape. If we run, we run forever, but then the wound, the suffering is still
there. Therefore, if you have a problem with your children or if you are having
problems with your parents, the best way is to look at your wound, your pain, and get
back to yourself. First, we return to our body.
We learn to enjoy our breath, relax our body and see where the wound
accumulates in our body, where the suffering accumulates in our body, and gradually
we learn to take good care of our surroundings. Maybe what caused the source of the
pain happened once or twice, but you may keep remembering it over and over.
Actually, that's why you're suffering, you can't stop thinking, but here you can stop
thinking by focusing on your body. You can start to reduce your difficulties, to heal
yourself. We have to go back to look at our emotions, we have to go back to deal with
our anger. We have to come back…breathing carefully, stepping carefully on the
street…
GATHA EXERCISE
In today's work, we would like to introduce you to a 'gatha', a meditation poem. Gatha's
purpose is to help you focus your mind on your breath. The mind is like a river of competing
thoughts. You can think of Gatha as a ladder or a rope that leads to the edge of this river. So,
Gatha will make it a little easier for you to climb the river's edge every time.
As you begin to increase your attention to your thoughts, you will realize that there are
two kinds of "states of mind". We can call these the "thinking mind" and the "observing mind".
We spend most of our time trapped in the thinking mind. The thinking mind is active when we
plan, judge, or worry.
We are trying to increase the power of the watching mind together with conscious
awareness. The observing mind is activated when we are aware of the feelings, thoughts, and
emotions in the "now", in the "now." The observing mind provides present awareness and
distracts the thinking mind from its worries, plans, and judgments. But since we use our
thinking mind more, it is much more powerful than our observing mind at first. And it often
intervenes when we try to strengthen our observing mind. The thinking mind is like an active,
excited puppy. It runs from place to place and never stands still. Gathas are tools we use to
distract our thinking mind so we can activate and strengthen our observing mind by taking
advantage of this opportunity. It's like throwing a bone at your dog to keep him in a stable
place, to calm him down. It is much easier to observe the dog when it is quiet and still.
At first, you may be skeptical of Gatha and find it pointless. Try to observe this
reaction, your thinking, and try to stay open-minded, and pay attention to what happens when
you use Gatha. Generally, people who practice this exercise find Gatha very useful.
In this meditation I will guide you using Gatha, but first I want to tell you how the
process will work. We will begin by silently repeating a set of phrases. During the meditation,
please align these words with your breathing. So that each line corresponds to an inhale or
exhale. After a few breaths, we will focus even more and start using all the words. I know this
may sound confusing, but it will become clearer as I guide you. Please don't worry.
Another thing is that you really need to smile at the moment during the smile segments during
this exercise. If you smile at that moment, observe in yourself how you feel, what effect it has. So
when you smile at that moment, try to pay attention to what happens in your body. Now lean back and
sit in an upright position.
I smile as I exhale.
I am currently living.
When your mind begins to wander, return to your words and your breath.
Now let's reduce each sentence to a single word and say it again with our breath and repeat this poem
2-3 times. When you say the word "I'm smiling", notice if there are any small changes in your body and
emotions. If your mind is wandering, come back to your breath and words.
I'm exhaling...
I'm calm...
I'm smiling...
I'm breathing... I'm breathing out... I'm calm... I'm smiling... I'm in the moment... I'm in a precious
moment...(Repeat these words every few minutes. Continue below 3-5 minutes before the end of
the meditation.) If you feel that your attention is somewhat balanced now, you can try to let go
of the words and let your awareness come back to just your breath. If your mind is wandering
and you have trouble focusing, you can always come back to the words in this poem you learned.
Şu anda yaşıyorum.
Bunun değerli bir an olduğunu biliyorum.
Nefes alıyorum...
Nefes veriyorum...
Sakinim...

Podemos chamar-lhes "a mente pensadora" e a
"mente observadora".
Enquanto continuamos a observar
Estou a viver.
Estou a inspirar...
Estou a expirar...
Estou calmo...
Estou a sorrir...
Encontro-me no presente...

SESIUNEA 3 VR
Toată lumea are o mamă,
are.

PROGRAMME
HANDOUT-4
WORK LIFE
“Settle a comfortable position where you are now, please and start to read this handout.
You will find some recommendations about work life below which you may need in your
daily life.
Working at work is one of the things that occupies our mind and body the most
in our daily life. If we do not have a job, it will tire our minds and it is not beneficial for
our body to be unemployed and inactive. Although people go to work for the need to
earn money, they also want to enjoy their work. When he enjoys his work, he becomes
more productive, he feels productive and powerful. In fact, on the way home, he
becomes happier and reflects this positive atmosphere around him. On the other hand,
at work, sometimes or most of the time, you may need to spend at least 10 hours with
some people, your co-workers or your boss, whom you do not even want to pass
through the same door. For thousands of years in human history, communities have
lived together, ate together, tried to survive together. Today, we spend a significant part
of our time at work and interact with people at work. There should be courtesy, respect
and compassion during this interaction. Because in the business environment,
obligations are at the forefront rather than options. The work environment distances us
from ourselves. The respect and courtesy we show when interacting with other people
at work is important. Or the self-respect and self-compassion you show yourself during
the work you do is very valuable. If you are currently unemployed or not happy at work,
please pay more attention to discovering and developing your own skills. What do you
need about your business life or career? While thinking about these, try to focus without
judging yourself and get ready to make a decision. You can share your decisions with
people you trust or write them down.
If you still find yourself struggling to notice and release thoughts as they arise,
this meditation can be of great help. Thoughts draw our attention away from the
present moment into a world of worries, judgments, memories, and plans.
“Thoughts throw us away from the totality of our experience of the present
moment into a world of concerns, judgments, memories, and plans. We will use
“tags” to help you recognize and let go of your thoughts when they arise.
Labeling or naming a thought helps
bring the thought into awareness of the observing mind. This makes it easier
for you to follow the thought without being distracted by it. The
If you find that your thoughts are focused on things like judgment or planning,
it may be helpful to apply labels like "judging" or "planning" to your thoughts.
Other tags such as "remembering" or "asking" may also be useful. It's not
worth spending a lot of time deciding which tag to use. If you find yourself
doing this, label them all as “thoughts” and return to your breath.
Remember, we're not trying to stop our thinking, we're just trying to get better
at recognizing it. This meditation is essentially about practicing mindfulness
and returning to the present time and time again.
“Now, when you're ready, find the part of your body where you feel the easiest
to breathe and gently direct your attention to that point.”
“When you notice your mind wandering, label them as “thinking” and let them
go, without judging your thoughts or yourself.”
“Focus your attention again on the body area where you feel the easiest to
breathe.”
“Breath is the anchor that stabilizes and stabilizes you, and every time you
focus, it helps you realize whatever you are experiencing right now and live
with full awareness.”
“When your mind wanders again, try to notice your thoughts appearing.”
“Try to give labels to your thoughts as they arise by silently telling yourself
“thinking” , ”judging” or… “planning”. And then let them go.”
“If your mind begins to wander, notice this, label your thoughts, and gently
refocus your attention on the feeling of breathing.”
“When you notice your thoughts, label them and focus on your breath again in
the here and now, allowing them to slowly drift away.”

nosso corpo estar desempregado e inativo.
viveram juntas, comeram juntas, tentaram sobreviver juntas. Hoje em dia, passamos uma
parte significativa do nosso tempo no trabalho e interagimos com as pessoas no trabalho.
“ Ambele picioare ating podeaua,..”

“Ambele picioare ating podeaua..”
