CHICAGO. People with breathing problems that disrupt their sleep were
less tired after three weeks of treatment with a breathing device compared to those
treated with a placebo, US researches said on Saturday.
The findings show that regular use of treatment with continuous positive
airway pressure (CPAP) masks reduce fatigue caused by obstructive sleep apnea,
a chronic disorder that affects 12 million Americans.
Sleep apnea raises the risk of high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke,
irregular heartbeat and diabetes.
It occurs when soft tissue in the back of the throat collapses during sleep,
blocking the airway and causing the brain to rouse the sleeper, who gasps for air –
a cycle that can occur as many as 30 times in an hour.
CPAP disrupts this cycle by providing a steady stream of air through a
mask that keeps the airway open during sleep
Companies that make CPAP treatments include Graymark Healthcare and
ResMed Inc.
This results are important as they highlight that patients who comply
with CPAP therapy can find relief from fatigue and experience increases in
energy and vigor after a relatively short treatment period,” Lianne Tomfohr of
San Diego State University and the University of California, San Diego, whose
study appears in the journal Sleep, said in a statement-Reuters.

So I turn out the lights and lay there in the dark
And the thought crosses my mind
If I never wake up in the morning
Would she ever doubt the way I feel
About her in my heart

If tomorrow never comes

Will she know how much I loved her
Did I try in every way to show her every day

Is the love I gave her in the past

Once upon a time in West Java, Indonesia, lived a princess named DayangSumbi. Her
hobby was weaving cloth. One day her weaving tool fell but she was too lazy toget it herself.
She shouted out, ‘Anybody there? Bring me my tool. I will give you special present. If you
are female, I will consider you as my sister. If you are male, I will marry you’
A male creature came, but it was a dog. His name was Tumang. He happily brought her
the tool to her. DayangSumbi was very surprised but she kept her promise. She married the
dog. Tumang was actually a man who had been cursed by a witch to become a dog. But at
certain times Tumang could turn back to be a normal man. Their only son, Sangkuriang, was
soon born, and he grew up to be a handsome and healthy boy. He always played with his very
loyal dog, Tumang. He did not know that he was actually his father, because DayangSumbi
hid the secret from him. Sangkuriang liked to hunt in the woods, of course with Tumang.
One day DayangSumbi asked him to bring home a deer’s heart. Unfortunately, he could
not find any deer in the woods. He did not want to disappoint his mother and was thinking
hard how to bring home a deer’s heart. Suddenly he had a very bad idea. He killed Tumang!
Then he brought his heart home and gave it to Dayang Sumbi. Sangkuring could not cheat
her. She knew it was Tumang’s heart. So, she got very angry and hit Sangkuriang’s forehead
with a piece of wood and told him to leave the village.
Many years later, Sangkuriang grew up to be a powerful man. One day he went back to his
village. He met a beautiful young woman there, and he fell in love with her at the first sight.

gods. Sangkuriang did not know that she was his mother, so she came to her and proposed to
marry her.
When he walked closer to her, DayangSumbi got very surprised. She saw the scar in
Sangkuriang’s forehead, and soon she knew that he was her son, who left her a long time ago.
She told him the truth and tried hard to explain it to him, but he did not believe her. She
accepted his proposal but gave him an impossible thing to do. She wanted him to build a lake
and a boat in just one night!
Sangkuriang agreed, because he knew that he could make it with the help of his genies.
By midnight he finished the lake and then started making the boat. DayangSumbi was
thinking hard to find a way to fail him. Before dawn, she asked the people in the village to
burn the woods in the East, and the light made all the cocks crow. Thinking that the night
would be over soon, the genies ran fast and left Sangkuriang before the boat was finished.

Recycling is important in today’s world if we want to leave this planet for our future generations.
It is good for the environment, since we are making new products from the old products which are of
no use to us. There are many reasons why it’s important to recycle as much as possible.
Making new products out of recycled materials reduces the need to consume precious
resources. So recycling helps protect raw materials and protect natural habitats for the future.
Using recycling materials in the manufacturing process uses considerably less energy than
that required for producing new products from raw materials.
Recycling reduces the need for extracting (mining, quarrying and logging), refining and
processing raw materials all of which create substantial air and water pollution. As recycling saves
energy, it also reduces greenhouse gas emissions, which helps to tackle climate change.
There are over 1,500 landfill sites in the UK and, in 2001, these sites produced a quarter of
the UK’s emissions of methane, a powerful greenhouse gas that is released as the biodegradable waste
(such as food and paper) decomposes. Existing landfill sites are filling up fast and there is very
limited space for new ones.
A massive reduction in the amount of waste we send to landfill is required if we are to avoid
the heavy fines and the landfill taxes that are being imposed by Central Government on councils that
exceed their landfill allowances. Increases in your Council Tax or service cuts in other areas would be
the only way of paying these penalties.
31. What does the text highlight?
A. Reasons to recycle.
B. Conserving the energy.
C. Protecting the environment.
D. Environmental construction.
E. Saving money through recycling.

32. We know from the text that ... if we recycle.

A. landfill sites will decrease
B. climate change will continue
C. more new products will be reduced
D. natural habitats will never be affected
E. air and water pollution will be affected

33. ”Recycling reduces the need for extracting (mining, quarrying and logging), refining and
processing raw materials all of which create substantial air and water pollution.”
Based on this quote, we conclude that the writer is telling us that ….

33. Recycling reduces the need for extracting ... it reduces pollution.
A. because
B. where
C. after
D. but
E. so

Wage Rudolf Supratman was born in Batavia (former/colonial name of Jakarta) in 1903. At the time
he was born, Indonesia was under Dutch colonialism. Supratman was the son of a sergeant in the
colonial corps, Senen. When he was 11 years old, Supratman moved to Makassar along with his
sister, Roekijem, and her husband, Willem Van Eldik (a Dutchman). There, he got his education and
gained a teaching certificate in 1921. When he was 20, he had been teaching in Sekolah Angka 2.
During his days in Makassar, Supratman developed his musical talent. His brother-in-law, Val Eldik,
who was also a good violinist, taught Supratman how to play violin. In 1924, W.R. Supratman read an
article in Timbul Magazine. The author mentioned that native Indonesians were not allowed to create
their own national anthem. That statement triggered Supratman to start composing patriotic songs.
The song, “Indonesia Raya,” was composed in the same year.

"Kongres Pemuda" was held in Jakarta in October 1928. The congress was held by independence
movement groups. During the closing ceremony on October 28, Supratman played “Indonesia Raya”
with a violin. Everybody was impressed at that time. Soon, “Indonesia Raya” became very popular in
the groups. It was sung in every single congress that was held after “Kongres Pemuda.” The song
symbolized the desire for freedom and independence. On the other hand, the colonial government
considered Supratman as a dangerous person. They were afraid that “Índonesia Raya” would cause a
nationwide independence movement. The song was banned from being sung, and its composer was
arrested in 1938. Supratman died in 1938, due to an illness.

Indonesia finally got her independence on August 17, 1945. “Índonesia Raya” was sung at the
declaration of independence. A few years later, President Soekarno declared “Indonesia Raya” as the
National Anthem of The Republic of Indonesia. Its composer was declared a national hero.

I stood for nothing, so I fell for everything
You held me down, but I got up. Already brushing off the dust.
You hear my voice, your hear that sound
Like thunder, gonna shake your ground
You held me down, but I got up. Get ready cause I’ve had enough
I see it all, I see it now

Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me roar
