Starting Eagle point


1.1 Folder and base drawing creation
Create project folder and sub folders:

 D:/EP training Group 1


 D:/EP training Group 1/Ep
 D:/EP training Group 1/Survey Data
 D:/EP training Group 1/Back Up

Create base drawing file:

 D:/EP training Group 1/Ep/main drawing.dwg

1.2 Starting Eagle Point Project


1. Double click on the eagle point software
2. from the “open” Dialog Box

 Click “create new project “ icon


3. From the “new” dialog box select(Highlight) “Eagle point
project”

Then click “next”


In the “new project” dialog box
4. Type “Group 1 Training” in the “project description” Edit
Box.
5. Browse the path of your “main drawing.dwg” what you created in 1.1 for the field
“project drawing”.
6. Select “Eagle Point Meters Default” for the “prototype setting” field.
7. Click finish.

From the “open “ dialog box select “ Group 1 Training “ and click “Ok”

1.4.1. Go to “System” in the eagle point menu and select “Units”
 Set “Angular” in The “Category” List
 Set “Degree,Minutes,seconds” in the “Input” list
 Set “Degree,Minutes,seconds” in the “Output” list
 Click “Apply”
 Set “Degree Of Curvature” in The “Category” List
 Set “Arc Definition” in the “Input/output” list
 Fill “20” in “Length” edit field
 Click “Apply”
 Set “Linear” in the “Category” list
 Check “meter” is Default in both “Input” and “Output” fields
 Click “Apply”

 Set “Plan Metric Areas” in the “Category” list


 Set “Square meters” in both “Input” and “Output” fields
 Click “Apply”

Chapter 2

Surface Modeling

2.1. Creating a Surface Model


1. Go to “Products” in the eagle point menu and select “Surface Modeling”

2. Go to “Prepare” in the Surface Modeling menu and select “Manage Surface Models”

3. Click on “New Surface Model” Icon


4. On the “new surface model” dialog box search the following

a) Surface model tab

b) Contour tab

c) Elevation Label tab

d) Rectangular grid tab

e) Cad setting tab

a) Surface Model Tab click


 Edit “Surface 1” in the “Description” field
 Leave the other fields Default
 Click “Apply”

 Set “Tin Layer 1” in the “layer” field

 Edit “1” in the “Intermediate Interval” field

2.2.Importing Survey Data


1. open excel and view your coordinate data down loaded from the total station.

 Save the excel data with CSV format and put it in to the “Survey Data” Folder.

2.Returning to the Eagle point, Go to “Products” in the eagle point menu and select “Data
Transfer”

 Go to “Formats” in the Data Transfer menu and select “Create…”


 Click “New Format Create” in the Create User format menu

 In the “New User Format” Dialog Box


 Edit “P,E,N,L,D” in the “Format Name” Field
 Edit “6” in the “Field Width” Field
 Set “,” in the “Delimiter” List
 Click “P”
 Click “Delimiter”
 Click “E”
 Click “Delimiter”
 Click “N”
 Click “Delimiter”
 Click “L”
 Click “Delimiter”
 Click “D”
 Click “Ok”

 Go to “Data Transfer” in the Data Transfer menu and select “Import”


 Browse The Excel File(CSV) to the “file name” Field
 Set the format created above or “P,E,N,L,D” in the “Format” Field
 Click “Ok”
 Apply “Zoom Extent” For the AutoCAD to see The Imported data.
 Close the “Data Transfer” Dialog Box

2.3. Creating Boundary Line


 In AutoCAD, Create a Layer called “Boundary” and make This layer a current layer
 Select the “poly line” command from the “AutoCAD” toolbar
 Draw a boundary line around the data
 In surface modeling,Go to “prepare” then to “Predefined Boundaries…”
 Click on “New” icon
 Select the “boundary line” on the autocad
 Edit “Surface 1 Boundary” in the Description Field
 Set “Surface 1” in the “surface Model” list
 Click “Ok”
 Click “Close” on the “predefined” Dialog Box

2.4. Triangulate Surface Model


 Go to “Triangulate” in surface modeling menu and select “Surface model”
 Set “Surface 1” for “Surface model” field
 Set “Predefined” for “Boundary” field
 Toggle on “display Model”
 Toggle on “Place Triangles”
 Click “Apply”
 Select Both the “Boundary” and the “Data”
 Click “Close”

2.5. Creating Contours


 Zoom Extent on the AutoCAD
 Go to “Contour” in surface modeling menu and select
“Make intermediate and index”
 Set “Surface 1” for “Surface model” field
 Toggle on “use screen display”
 Toggle on “Erase Existing Contours for this surface”
 Click “Apply”
 Click “Close”

2.6. Annotating Contours


 Go to “Contour” in surface modeling menu and select “Annotate”
 In the “Annotate Contour” Dialog Box…
 Set “Surface 1” for “Surface model” list
 Toggle on “Index” and the others not
 Toggle on “Endpoints” in the “Method” Section
 Toggle on “Erase Existng ……..”
 Click “Apply”
 Select all the Contours on the AutoCAD by window
 Click “Close”

2.7. Placing a Grid Coordinates


 Go to “Products” on Eagle point menu then select “Drafting” then from this select
“Insert” then “Coordinate Grid…”
 Set “250” for both the “Northing” and “Easting” intervals
 Toggle on both “Labels”
 Take others as it is
 Apply “window” on the AutoCAD

2.8. Placing a North Arrow


 Go to “Products” on Eagle point menu then select “Drafting” then from this select
“Insert” then “North Arrow…”
 Click “Insert”
 Click on the AutoCAD
 Press Escape

2.9. Placing a Scale Bar


 Go to “Products” on Eagle point menu then select “Drafting” then from this select
“Insert” then “Bar Scale…”
 Click “Insert”
 Click on the AutoCAD

Chapter 3

Road Calc
3.1. Creating a Roadcalc Sub Project
 Go to “File” in Eagle point menu and select “New”
 In the “NEW” dialog box Highlight or select “Roadcalc Sub project”
 Click “Next”

 In the “Roadcalc Subproject” Dialogbox


 First select or highlight your project name(“Group 1 Training”)
 Edit “001” in the “sub project number” field
 Edit “Rural road” in the “Description” field
 Select “Roadcalc Metric Default” in the “sub project proto type” drop list
 Click “Next”
 Click “finish”
 Click “ok”
3.2. Creating a Horizontal PI
 From the AutoCad tool bar select Poly line
 Draw your alignment PIs from the beginning to the ending of the project with a
continuous poly line
 In the “Road calc menu” ,Go to “Alignments” then “Convert object to alignment”
 Select your alignment from the AutoCAD model
 Click on the beginning direction of your alignment
 Set the beginning station
 Click “Apply”

3.3. Creating a Horizontal Curves


 Go to “Alignments” in the “Road calc” menu then “Edit”
 In the “Edit Alignment Data” Dialog box,
 Click the “Curve data” tab

 In the “Curve data” dialog box


 Insert radius for each pi by using the right direction arrow
 Click “close” after you finished over all the PIS
 Click “Close” again
3.4. Manage Cross sections layers
 In the “Road calc” menu, go to “Cross Sections” then select “Manage surfaces”
 In the “Manage” dialog box
 Take default for the “Original” tab
 Click the “Design” tab

 Click the “New” icon at the bottom of the dialog box


 Edit “Gravel Wearing” in the “Name” field
 Click “Apply”
 Edit “Capping” in the “Name” field
 Click “Apply”
 Edit “Subgrade” in the “Name” field
 Click “Ok”

3.5. Extracting Cross sections from surface


 In road calc menu, Go to “Cross sections” then to “Extarct Cross section”
 Leave the Beginning and Ending stations as it is
 Check on “Station Interval” and edit “20” on the field
 Uncheck “curve station Interval”
 Check on “Curve stations”
 Uncheck “Equation Stations”
 Leave the “Skew angle”
 Check on “Mark Stations for Extarctions”
 Check on “Delete Existing Stations”
 Click “Ok”
 Toggle on the “Extract” option of “orginal Surface”
 Click “Ok”

3.6. Cross Sections viewing


 In Road calc menu,Go to “Cross Sections” then to “Edit cross section data”
 Use the “down arrow” to see the extracted x-sections
 Click “Close”

3.7. Creating the Vertical Alignment PIS


 In the Road calc menu, Go to “Profiles” then select “View Profile Graphics”
 From the AutoCad tool bar select Poly line
 Draw your vertical alignment PIs from the beginning to the ending of the project with a
continuous poly line
 In the “Road calc menu” ,Go to “Profiles” then “Convert object to alignment”
 Select your alignment from the AutoCAD model
 Click “Next”
 Click “Ok”
3.8. Creating a Vertical Curves
 Go to “Profiles” in the “Road calc” menu then “Edit”
 In the “Edit Profile Data” Dialog box,
 Click the “Curve data” tab

 In the “Curve data” dialog box


 Insert Lengths of curves for each pi by using the right direction arrow
 Click “close” after you finished over all the PIS
 Click “Close” again

3.9. Typical Sections/Templates


3.9.1 Manage Typical section
 In Road calc menu, Go to “Typical Sections” then to “Manage typical section”
 In the “manage Typical Section” Dialog box
 Click the “new” icon
 Fill “Rural Typical” in the “Name” Field
 Click “Ok”
 Click “close”

3.9.2 Draw Typical section


 In Road calc menu, Go to “Typical Sections” then to “View typical section Graphics”
 In the “View Typical Section” Dialog box
 Click “Ok”
 Change the AutoCAD From “Layout” to “Model”
 Select “Line” from AutoCAD Tool bar
 Click on the center of the “Cross Line”
 Edit the following on the AutoCAD “command line”
 @3,-0.12(Finished Grade)
 @2,-1
 Offset the first line by 0.25 down(Gravel Wearing)
 Offset this offsetd line by 0.5 down(Capping)
 “Trim” or “Extend” unfitted lines
 In Road calc menu, Go to “Typical Sections” then to “Construct typical section”
 Click “Mirror to the Left” icon
 Click the “Pt code” icon
 Set “1” from the Pt list For the center of the road
 Set “2” for Right edge of the road
 Set “-2” for left edge of the road
 Click “close”
3.9.3 Defining Typical section
 Go to “Typical Sections” in Road calc menu, then to “Construct typical
section”
 In this dialog box, click the “Define” icon

 Click “Gravel Wearing” and click “Define”


 Click inside the boundary of this layer in your typical section
 Do the same for the capping layer too
 Click “Ok”
 See the defined typical section by clicking on “Show typical section Definition”
 Click “Close”

3.10. Process the Design


3.10.1 Slope Library
 In road calc menu,Go to “Process” then to “Slope Library”
 Select “Single” so that it is active
 Click on the “New” icon
 Edit “3:1 slope” in the “Name” field
 Edit “3” in the „Slope value” field
 Select “H:V” as a measurement
 Click “Ok”
 Do the same procedure for “2:1” slope and “1.5:1‟ slopes

3.10.2 Manage Condition Tables


 In road calc menu, select “process” then to “Manage condition tables”
 Click “New” icon
 In the “New condition table” Dialog box
 Edit “Depth Controlled” in the “Name” field
 Toggled on “Based on Depth Only” option
 Select “Cut” so that it is active
 Select the default condition (Depth range>=0)
 Click on “Modify” icon
 Select “3:1 slope” from the “slope name” List
 Click “Ok”
 Click the “New” icon
 Edit “1” in the “depth is >=” field
 Select “2:1 slope” from the “slope name” List
 Click “Ok”
 Click the “New” icon
 Edit “2” in the “depth is >=” field
 Select “1.5:1 slope” from the “slope name” List
 Click “Ok”
 Repeat the above procedure for “fill” condition also
 Finally click “Ok”
 Click “Close”

3.10.3 Edit Design Locations


 In road calc menu, select “process” then to “Edit Design Locations”
 In the “Typical section locations” area, click the “New” icon
 Edit “0” in the “station” field
 Select “Rural typical” from the “typical section” list
 Select “Do not transition to next station” in the “transition Type” list
 Click “Ok”
 In the “Condition Table locations” area, click the “New” icon
 Edit “0” in the “station” field
 Select “Depth Controlled” from the “Left Condition table” list
 Select “Depth Controlled” from the “Right Condition table” list
 Click “Ok”
 Click “Close”

3.10.4 Running the Design


 In road calc menu, Go to “Process” then to “Run the Design”
 Leave the starting and ending stations for default
 Select “Automatic” from the “Method” drop list
 Click “Run”

3.10.5 Reviewing Cross Sections


 In Road calc menu, Go to “Cross Sections” then to “Edit cross section data”
 Use the “down arrow” to see the extracted x-sections with the Typical Section
 Click “Close”

Super elevation and Widening
1. Notepad Outputs
 In your project folder(Ep Training Groupe 1) like the “Backup” folder, create the
following folders:
 “Output”
 “Super and wide”
 “Drafting”
 In eagle point menu, go to “File” then select “Print setup”
 Toggle on “File”
 Browse “Output” using the Browser
 Give file name “HA”
 Click “open”
 Click “Yes”
 Click “ok”
 In Roadcalc menu,Go to “Alignments” then select “Generate Reports”
 Set “Your Alignment” in the “Name” list
 Check on “P.I Data” option
 Check on “Horizontal curve data” option
 Click “print”
 see your “HA” in “Output” folder

 In eagle point menu, go to “File” then select “Print setup”


 Change “HA” to “VA” in the file option
 Click “open”
 Click “Yes”
 Click “ok”
 In Roadcalc menu, Go to “Profile” then select “Generate Reports”
 Set “Your Vertical Alignment” in the “Name” list
 Check on “V.P.I Data” option
 Check on “Vertical curve data” option
 Click “print”
 see your “VA” on “Output” folder

 In eagle point menu, go to “File” then select “Print setup”


 Change “VA” to “Sta”
 Click “open”
 Click “Yes”
 Click “ok”
 In Roadcalc menu, Go to “Output” then select “Elevation/Depth at offset”
 Check on “Depth” option
 Set “Gravel Wearing” in “Top surface” List
 Set “Original” on “Bottom Surface” List
 Click “New” icon
 Fill “0” for “Offset” Field
 Click “ok”
 Click the “Print” icon
 see your “Sta” in “Output” folder

 In eagle point menu, go to “File” then select “Print setup”


 Change “Sta” to “Stake”
 Click “open”
 Click “Yes”
 Click “ok”
 In Roadcalc menu, Go to “Output” then select “Cross-section staking”
 Click “calculate”
 Click the “Print” icon
 see your “Stake” in “Output” folder

2. Working with VB
 Open the “VB Program”
 Click on the “Input Format” tab
 Open the “HA” file from the “Output” folder with “Excel”
 Feed the necessary columns of the “1st sheet” of the “Input format” with filtering from
the “HA”
 Open the “Sta” file from the “Output” folder with “Excel”
 Feed the necessary columns of the “2st sheet” of the “Input format” with filtering from
the “Sta”
 Open the “VA” file from the “Output” folder with “Excel”
 Feed the necessary columns of the “3st sheet” of the “Input format” with filtering from
the “VA”
 Leave the other sheets of the “Input format” as it is.
 “Save as” the “Input Format” in the “Drafting” folder

 Run the “VB Program”


 Check on “Two side Widening” option
 Click “Retrieve Data” tab
 Browse “Input Format” you save in the “Drafting” folder
 Click “Ok”
 Click “Process” tab
 Click “Ok”
 Click “Ok”
 Click “Output” tab
 Save the 1st output in to “Drafting” folder
 Save the 2nd output in “Drafting” Folder
 Only the second output will be used for “Super Elevation” and “Widening” works.

3. Analyzing the 2nd output

 Prepare the following “Excel” files from the 2nd output


 Station – WidLeft Total(save in “Drafting” folder by a file name “WidLeft”
in CSV format)
 Station – WidRight Total(save in “Drafting” folder by a file name
“WidRight” in CSV format)
 Station – LeftEdge(save in “Drafting” folder by a file name “LeftEdge”)
 Station – RightEdge (save in “Drafting” folder by a file name “RightEdge”)

 From the 4 files,the first (“WidLeft”) needs modification


 In the widLeft column change all the figures by their “negative” values and
“save” the file itself

4. Widening Works
 In Eagle point menu,Go to “Products” then to “Data Transfer”
 Go to “Formats” in the Data Transfer menu and select “Create…”
 Click “New” icon in the Create User format menu

 In the “New User Format” Dialog Box


 Edit “Sta,Off” in the “Format Name” Field
 Edit “6” in the “Field Width” Field
 Set “,” in the “Delimiter” List
 Click “S”
 Click “Delimiter”
 Click “O”
 Click “Ok”

 Go to “Data Transfer” in the Data Transfer menu and select “Import”


 Browse the file “WidLeft” to the “file name” Field
 Set the format created above or “Sta,off” in the “Format” Field
 Click “Setting” tab
 Set field code “119” for widleft
 Click “ok”
 Click “Ok”
 Click close

 Go to “Data Transfer” in the Data Transfer menu and select “Import”


 Browse the file “WidRight” to the “file name” Field
 Set the format created above or “Sta,off” in the “Format” Field
 Click “Setting” tab
 Set field code “120” for widRight
 Click “ok”
 Click “Ok”
 Click close
 Save the “AutoCad”

 In eagle point menu, go to “File” then select “Print setup”


 Change “Sta” to “WidLeft”
 Click “open”
 Click “Yes”
 Click “ok”

 Go to “Data Transfer” then select “Report” then select


“Nodes…”
 For “Selection method” set “Field code” from the list
 Set “119” from the “field code” drop down list
 Click “Apply”
 Click “Print” icon once
 Click “Close”

 See the “widleft” file in your “output” folder

 In eagle point menu, go to “File” then select “Print setup”


 Change “WidLeft” to “WidRight”
 Click “open”
 Click “Yes”
 Click “ok”

 Go to “Data Transfer” then select “Report” then select


“Nodes…”
 For “Selection method” set “Field code” from the list
 Set “120” from the “field code” drop down list
 Click “Apply”
 Click “Print” icon once
 Click “Close”

 See the “widRight” file in your “output” folder

 Open “WidLeft” file from “output” folder


 Filter “Easting” and “Northing”
 On a new column “=Concatenate(Easting,”,”,Northing)”and “Drug” it to the
bottom
 Copy these values
 On your “Auto Cad” “freeze off” all Layers except “Centerline”
 Make “centerline” a “current” layer
 On your “Auto Cad” select “Poly Line”
 On the “command Line” click and “right click” and “Paste” the copied data
 Click “Enter”
 Go to “Alignment” in Road calc menu then “Convert object to alignments…”
 Select this new line
 Right click
 Click around the start of the project
 Select “Row Left” for “Alignment” drop list
 Click “Apply”

 Open “WidRight” file from “output” folder


 Filter “Easting” and “Northing”
 On a new column “=Concatenate(Easting,”,”,Northing)”and “Drug” it to the
bottom
 Copy these values
 On your “Auto Cad” “freeze off” all Layers except “Center Line”
 Make “centerline” a “current” layer
 On your “Auto Cad” select “Poly Line”
 On the “command Line” click and “right click” and “Paste” the copied data
 Click “Enter”
 Go to “Alignment” in Road calc menu then “Convert object to alignments…”
 Select this new line
 Right click
 Click around the start of the project
 Select “Row Right” for “Alignment” drop list
 Click “Apply”

5. Super Elevation Works


 Open “LeftEdge” file from “Drafting” folder
 On a new column “=Concatenate(Station,”,”,10*Elevation)”and “Drug” it to the
bottom
 Copy these values
 Go to “Profiles” then to “view profile graphics”
 On the “command Line” click and “right click” and “Paste” the copied data
 Click “Enter”
 Go to “profiles” in Road calc menu then “Manage…”
 Click the “New” icon
 Fill “ Edge Left”
 Click “ Ok”
 Click “close”
 Go to “profiles” in Road calc menu then “Convert object to profile”
 Select this new line
 Right click
 Click “Next”
 Set “Edge Left” for the “Profile” List
 Click “Finish”

 Open “RightEdge” file from “Drafting” folder


 On a new column “=Concatenate(Station,”,”,10*Elevation)”and “Drug” it to the
bottom
 Copy these values
 Go to “Profiles” then to “view profile graphics”
 On the “command Line” click and “right click” and “Paste” the copied data
 Click “Enter”
 Go to “profiles” in Road calc menu then “Manage…”
 Click the “New” icon
 Fill “ Right Left”
 Click “ Ok”
 Click “close”
 Go to “profiles” in Road calc menu then “Convert object to profile”
 Select this new line
 Right click
 Click “Next”
 Set “Right Left” for the “Profile” List
 Click “Finish”

6. Association of the Horizontal and the Vertical


 Go to “Process” in road clac menu then to “Associate Alignments and Profiles”
 Click the “New” icon
 Set “-2 optional super limit” for “PT Code” option
 Check on “Left” for “side” option
 Set “Row Left” for “Alignment” option
 Set “Edge Left” for “Profile” option
 Set “Slope” for “Control type”
 Set “-2 optional super limit” for “Control PT Code” option
 Click “Ok”

 Click the “New” icon


 Set “2 superelevation limit” for “PT Code” option
 Check on “right” for “side” option
 Set “Row Right” for “Alignment” option
 Set “Edge Right” for “Profile” option
 Set “Slope” for “Control type”
 Set “2 superelevation limit” for “PT Code” option
 Click “Ok”
 Click “Close”

7. Running the project


 In road calc menu, Go to “Process” then to “Run the Design”
 Leave the starting and ending stations for default
 Select “Automatic” from the “Method” drop list
 Click “Run”

8. Reviewing Cross Sections

 In Road calc menu, Go to “Cross Sections” then to “Edit cross section data”
 Use the “down arrow” to see the extracted x-sections with the Typical Section
 Click “Close”

Out Puts
4.1. Volumes
 In road calc menu, Go to “Output” then to “Volumes”
 Select “Design earth Work” from “volume type” drop list
 Click the “Print” icon

4.2. Generating Cross section


 In road calc menu, Go to “Output” then to “Cross section sheet”
 In this dialog box, click the “Format Library” tab
 In the “Format Library” dialog box ,Select “Road calc Metric Defaults”
 Click “close”
 In the “Cross-section sheet” dialog box,Click the “New” icon
 In this dialog box, leave the default value and click “Ok”
 Your x-section drawings will be saved in your “Ep” folder
 Click “Close”

4.3.1. Plan
 In road calc menu, Go to “Alignments” then to “View Alignment Graphics”
 From the autocad of the main plan:
 “Layer off” all others exept:”Layer 0,layer Countour,Layer Annot-countour,Layer
countour-idx,layer center line,Layer Grid,Layer Symboles”
 In Road calc menu, Go to “Output” then to “Break lines from Pt code”
 Select pt code “2”,select “Des_Gw”,select “both” and Check on “Extract” options
 Click “Ok”
 Do the same for Pt code “-2”
 In Road calc menu, Go to “Output” then to “Catchlines…”
 Click “ok”
 In Eagle point menu, Go to “Product” then to “Drafting”
 In the “Drafting” Dialog box, Click “Annotate” then “Alignment Stationing”
 Click the “Browse”
 Select your Center line alignment from the AutoCAD
 Click “Apply”
 Click “Close”
 The AutoCAD plan will be your final “Plan Drawing”
