CARNOT'S THEOREM

It states that :

 All heat energy engines between two heat reservoir are less efficient than the Carnot heat
engine that is operating between the same reservior.
 Irrespective of the operation details, every Carnot engine is efficient between two heat
reservoir.

ACTIVITY #1
Answer the following problems:

Problem #1:
If the heat absorbed by the engine (Q1) is 10,000 Joule, what is the work done by the carbon engine
given that the Low temperature is 450 kelvin, high temperature with 700 k?

Problem #2:
What is the work done by the engine given that the heat input (Q1) is 1200 Joule, the Low
temperature is 400 kelvin and High temperature 600 kelvin?

Problem #3:
If the heat absorbed by the engine is 1500 Joule. Find the work done by the Carnot engine
with Low tenperature of 200 kelvin and High temperature of 600 kelvin.

Problem #4:
What is the work done by a Carnot engine given that its heat input is 3000 Joule with Low
and High Temperature of 9°C and 50°C?

Problem #5:
Based on the graph below, find the work done by the Carnot engine in a cycle.
Problem #6:
A Carnot engine takes 2000 Joule of heat from a reservoir at 600 kelvin, does some work
and discards some heat to a reservoir at 250 kelvin. Find the effienciency of Carnot engine and
the heat it discard (Ec).

Problem #7:
A Carnot engine absorbs heat at high temperature 700 kelvin and the efficiency of the
engine is 60%. What is the high temperature to increase the efficiency to 80% if the low
temperature keeps constant.

Problem #8:
Carnot engine operates at the efficiency of 30%. How much must the temperature of the hot
reservoir increase so that the efficiency increase to 50%. The temperature of the reservoir
remains at 282 kelvin.

Problem #9:
What is the heat input (Q1) if the heat output (Q2) is 5000 Joule given that the high and low
temperature are 900 kelvin and 600 kelvin, respectively.
Problem #10:
An ideal refrigerating engine operates according to Carnot cycle that transfer heat from a
cold reservoir filled with water with a temperature of 0°c to a hot reservoir filled with water with
the temperature of 100°c. How much water needs to freeze in the cold reservoir so that 1.5
kilogram of water in the hot reservoir evaporates and the temperature of the vapour is 100°c.
