Degree of Comparison
Degree of Comparison atau Comparative Degree pada Adjective adalah tingkat
perbandingan yang digunakan untuk membandingkan orang atau benda & untuk
membandingkan perbedaan antara 2 hal atau lebih berdasarkan sifatnya.

How to Use

Cara untuk menentukan penggunaan Degree of Comparison adalah dengan

menghitung jumlah syllable atau suku kata pada Adjective yang digunakan.
Glad = /glad/ 1 syllable
Happy = /hap.py/ 2 syllables
Beautiful = /beau.ti.ful/ 3 syllables

Adjective with 1 syllable

(S + to be + Adj + er + than + object)

“My brother is taller than my Dad”

S to be Adj+er O

(Kakakku lebih tinggi daripada aku)

Jika polanya consonant – vocal – consonant maka tambahkan

double consonant di ujung Adjective (hot hotter, big bigger)

“Surabaya is hotter than Malang”

(Surabaya lebih panas daripada Malang)
Untuk Adjective berakhiran huruf “e” maka ditambah huruf -r di akhir
kata.

“Cookies are nicer than cheese cake”

(Kukis lebih enak daripada kue keju)

 Adjective with 2 syllables

(S + to be + Adj + er + than + object)

“Maggy is angrier than Max”

S to be Adj+er O

(Maggy lebih marah daripada Max)

Untuk Adjective berakhiran -y, ganti huruf -y dengan -i sebelum

ditambah -er. (pretty prettier)

“Malory is prettier than Mia”

(Malory lebih cantik daripada Mia)

Adjective with 3 syllables or more

(S + to be + more + Adjective + than + Object)

“Your health is more important than your money”

S to be more + Adj O

(Kesehatanmu lebih penting daripada uangmu)
