India's cabinet, headed by PM Modi, has cleared the Agni
path scheme and termed it a "transformative reform." Agni path roughly translates to Fire path and Agni veer means Fire Warriors. Under the Agni veer scheme, the defense minister Rajnath Singh announced the approval of one of the most attractive scheme for Indian youth; through this they can join Indian armed forces. The name of this scheme is Agni path and selected candidate under this scheme are known as Agni veer. This scheme offers more then 46000 posts, in this scheme, men and women between the ages of 17 and 21 will be brought into the armed forces. Agni veer will be enrolled for a duration of 4 years including the training period, up to 25% of Agni veers from each batch are enrolled in regular cadre of armed forces. The scheme provides a unique opportunity to the youth to serve the country and contribute to nation building. There will be availability of well disciplined and skilled youth with military ethics in civil society. Army general Manoj Pande said, the new system would help bring down the average age of the armed forces. In the army, the average age would drop from 32 to 26. A more youthful profile will help train troops more easily in newer technologies, and their health and fitness levels will be much better. Lieutenant general Puri said Agni veers are India’s young protector. After being with army for 4 years, the Agni veers resume and biodata will be very unique. He will stand out in the crowd with his attitude and skills.
