'Why designer babies are ethically wrong' by Lizzie It was supposed to be a joke, but somehow, a photo of

three dark-haired people with decidedly English facial features appealed to my imagination. I knew that no real
babies were being born and that was fine, but I was curious about the origins. How was it possible to give birth
to a baby from a memory? Apparently the scientists had used a very advanced technology to be able to create a
memory and then implant it into the brain of a man or woman and have them pregnant at the right time to have
the baby. They had used genetic makeup from the parents of the people that had given permission to use a part
of their DNA, to be able to do this. Then I thought, why are they doing this? It just seemed a bit strange and
unethical. It seemed like robots were being made to look like real people rather than the other way around. It
was the first time ever that I had seen anything like this and I knew that I would undoubtedly be seeing more of
it as the technology progressed and improved. But ethically, I wondered whether it is right to be making robots
look like real people. The science being used to do this was really quite incredible. It involved a protocol of
magnets that were heated up in a very specific way, which then caused the atoms in the brain to align perfectly.
This in turn created a perfect memory that could be used by doctors to implant that memory into the brain of a
real person who wanted a baby. This process was thought to be foolproof, which meant that once the doctors
had used the process to create this perfect memory, then after a few months of waiting for the baby to be born, it
would be a perfectly normal baby. That was the theory. However I still wondered whether it was ethical or not.
Then there was the matter of the new legislation that had been passed which meant that babies could be created
this way using memories. I wondered how this would affect how people saw people, since they would all look
the same. I was sure that there would be an uproar about the babies being 'designer babies', but I had seen some
of the skin care products on the internet which looked exactly like actual human skin. So it didn't seem that
crazy that there would be an outcry about people being made particularly for this procedure. Then I decided to
Google, 'designer babies'. All I found was news articles about how the technology was being used. All of the
news articles were positive and talked a lot about how the dresses were being made to look like people who
were celebrities.
