1 Purpose and Scope

Note: In the event of a deviation between the English and domestic language, the English version of this standard
shall take precedence.
This standard is used to translate the characteristics of a material in the form of a code in order to:
 Define the tests to be performed to classify the material,
 Specify the criteria that shall be fulfilled by the material during the development of a given part.
It applies to thermoplastics, thermosets, rubbers and thermoplastic elastomers, rigid or flexible, compact or light,
reinforced or not.
Materials specifying a certification procedure shall be classified according to this standard.
Note: Thermoplastic elastomers are included in this standard. A material is considered as such if it has the following
characteristics:
 A tension set < 75% at 20% of elongation after (70 ± 1) h at +23 °C ± 2 °C according to ISO 2285 and
D10 5010,
 An ozone resistance ≥ 72 h, time for cracking to appear, at 200 pphm according to ISO 1431-1 and D10 5010.
Unless otherwise indication, the tests shall be performed on test pieces taken in the perpendicular direction in the
injection or calendaring direction.
The materials below are the object of specific standards:
 Alveolar materials,
 Wires and fibers,
 Rubbers for seals,
 Rubbers and thermoplastic elastomers vulcanized for hoses,
 Rubbers for anti-vibration parts,
 Belts,
 Decorations.

4 General Requirements
The requirements are available according to the services provided by material in term of:
 Regulation and consumerism,
 Initial aspect,
 Retention of characteristics after aging without use,
 Retention of characteristics after aging with use,
 Compliance with Groupe PSA technical rules,
 Technical characteristics (mechanical, thermal, etc.).
Specific criteria for thermoplastic elastomers or rubbers supplement this classification.
In addition, the main requirements are numbered for traceability according to the ISA, e.g. MAT_EXT_VIS_324 for
staining by the automobile fluids.
Those are identified by a code like this MAT_XXX_YYY_ZZZ, with:
 MAT for material,
 XXX is used to locate the application (scope):
 VEH for all vehicle,
 INT for interior applications,
 EXT for exterior applications,
 SCM for applications under hood or chassis,
 YYY specifies the location:
 TMA for all applications of the scope,
 VIS for visible applications of the scope,
 NVI for non-visible applications of the scope,
 ZZZ indicates an order number.
The level of compliance for the requirement is specified by an alphanumeric code.
An example of specification of the material according to different possible configurations (vehicle function) is indicated
in Appendix A: in order to perform testing, if necessary.
Note: On the other hand, this example has no priority over specification documents relating modules, vehicle parts
and material consulted, which remain the priority documents.

5.3.5 MAT_VEH_TMA_306 - Heat Exposure

Heat exposure can be expressed using two indexes E or/and M.
For the interior parts, the temperature is determined by the position of the part in the vehicle and shall be confirmed
to be in adequacy with the requirement of the STO.
For the exterior parts, chassis and under hood, the temperature shall be in adequacy with the values of the ST or
STO.
The index E corresponds to exposure temperature threshold for the materials of interior or exterior applications or to
peak temperature in addition to continuous use temperature resistance for the materials of mechanical applications,
under hood or chassis.
The index M corresponds to continuous use temperature for materials of mechanical applications, under hood and
chassis.
In both cases (index E or index M), classification is done as specified in the Table 13 according to the temperatures,
except typical case of thermoplastics index M.
Table 13: Classification on Heat Exposure
Materials / Applications Temperature Code
+70 °C 207E or 207M
+85 °C 208E or 208M
All materials
+95 °C 209E or 209M
Index E for all applications
+100 °C 210E or 210M
Index M for mechanical, under hood
+110 °C 211E or 211M
and chassis applications
… …
+XY0 °C 2XYE or 2XYM

Notes:
 For the temperatures not specified in Table 13, classification is written 2XYE or 2XYM for a temperature
corresponding to +XY0 °C. See examples below:
 Codes 223E and 223M correspond in previous versions of B62 0300 to heat exposure > +210 °C. These codes
can be specified for a heat exposure of +230 °C only by indicating according to B62 0300.
 For using temperatures not expressed in ten degrees (except +85 °C and +95 °C), the thermal requirement for
heat exposure will be required for a temperature ten degrees higher (e.g. for a temperature of use of +135 °C,
the heat exposure will be requested at +140 °C => code 214E or 214M).
Examples:  208E: Exposure temperature threshold of +85 °C for materials of interior or exterior
applications,
 210M: Continuous use temperature of +100 °C for materials of mechanical, under hood and
chassis applications,
 210M-212E: Use temperatures of +100 °C in continuous and +120 °C at peak for the materials
of under hood and chassis applications,
 230M according to B62 0300: Continuous use temperature of +230 °C for the materials of
under hood and chassis applications.

5.3.9 MAT_SCM_TMA_331 - Permanent Contact with Fluids Resistance

Permanent contact with fluids resistance is defined by a HWXY type code with W relating to the fluid and XY relating
to temperature threshold.
Temperature shall be in adequacy with the values of the ST or STO.
Unless otherwise specified in the specification documents, the fluids to be used are those defined in B71 6000.
Classification is specified in Table 19 according to fluid and temperatures:

Cold Rigidity
 For Thermoplastic Elastomers:
According to ISO 37 and D10 5010.
The cold behaviour is characterized by measuring the increase in tensile stress at 20% of elongation and
corresponds to the temperature at which the stress is  3 times that determined at +23 °C  2 °C and
50%  5% HR.

 Case of Rubbers:
Tests are performed according to ISO 11357, Part 2 and D10 5010.

 The temperatures of aging are determined by the heat exposure level (See paragraph 5.2.)
 Duration of aging is determined by the exposure code:
 E = 168 h,
 M = 1000 h for rubbers and 2000 h for thermoplastic elastomers.
Examples:  P208E: CS between 20% and 50% after 168 h at +85 °C
 P+210M: CS < 20% after 1000 h (if rubber) or 2000 h (if TPE) at +100 °C
 P+221E-P219M:
 CS < 20% after 168 h at +210 °C
 CS between 20% and 50% after 1000 h (if rubber) or 2000 h (if TPE) at +190 °C.

Elasticity Stability at Temperature

This characteristic is determined by the measurement of the change in tensile stress at 20% of elongation at a given
temperature > +23 °C, compare to the value recorded at +23 °C  2 °C and 50%  5% HR.
Three requirements level are define:
 Loss  20%,
 20% < Loss  50%,
 50% < Loss  75%.
The elasticity stability at temperature codes are specified in Table 37:
