1 Purpose and Scope

This standard defines the acceptance criteria of:
 LASER welded tailored blanks purchased by PSA and stamped in our plants.
 LASER welded tailored blanks stamped by the suppliers and delivered to PSA as parts
 LASER welded tailored coils cut and stamped by the suppliers and delivered to PSA as parts.
The criteria in this document are applicable besides the 5 mm of beginning and end of band. Currently the state
of the art of the butt welded blanks manufacturers does not allow the guarantee of the band's quality in these
areas, the problem shall be handled in design. Furthermore, the absence of LASER bands on the first 2 mm and
last 2 mm is tolerated.

Acceptance Criteria of a Laser Welded Tailored Blank

4.2.1 General Information
The conformity of a laser butt welded assembly is focused on the following characteristics:
 Mechanical stamping performance
 Metallurgical characteristics
 Dimensional characteristics
4.2.2 Acceptance Criteria for Fracture Surface (Forming Test)
The current state of the art to test the deformability of the welding is to use a stamping test (Erichsen, Olsen or other

4.2.5 Criteria to Monitor at the PMXP Validation

The criteria in Table 4 are used as warning criteria at the validation of the blanks butt welded by PMXP. In case of
non-conformity, a suitable inspection is defined on a case by case basis at the first industrial tests between PMXP
and DPV/EMB.

The surfaces on both sides of the weld seam and on each of the two sides of the die blank shall be free of aluminum
and shall not come into contact with the AS coating (AS23 / 23 or AS13 / 13) of the molten area.
The hot stamper shall use a micrographic cut analysis of one of the blanks to ensure that this measure has been
taken into account. This analysis shall precede partial or complete ablation of the coating.
The width “L” of this oblation shall be ≥ 0,2 mm or < 1,5 mm (according to the characteristics of the applied welding
procedure (see Figure 1).
Figure 1: Decoating Specification

Reservations on complete ablation of the coating near to the weld:

 Local partial decarburization of the final part is allowed following the requirements detailed in paragraph 5.1.2
 Total ablation is not permitted and cannot be used for severe corrosion applications The agreement of the
Manager of Material Engineering is required

Acceptance Criteria of the Geometry of Welded Tailored Blanks

The dimensions of the blank shall comply with the tolerances specified by Groupe PSA.
Positions of the laser welded tailored bands: except for the special notice indicated in the part drawing, the tolerance
of the position of the laser tailor welding bands on the blank is  1 mm around the theoretical axis of the bands (see
Figures 2 and 3).

General Quality Criteria

The blanks shall be fit for manufacturing the specified parts and shall be free of defects detrimental to their normal
use. The surface of the parts shall be clean, free of oxidation, scale, and adhesive tags.

5 Control of the Welded Tailored Blanks Quality

The supplier shall provide the human and technical resources in order to guarantee the quality of the blanks delivered
to PSA. In order to guarantee this product quality to us, the supplier shall demonstrate the control of his product
manufacturing process. The resources and the inspection frequencies implemented to detect the non-conformities
shall be consistent with all the acceptance criteria specified in this standard.

Product/Process Control
The control of the product and of the process shall be evaluated according to the validation process
MXP_CEB04_0027.
This evaluation consists of three sections:
1) A technical audit of the manufacturing process and of the inspection lab.
(Stage carried out if the site and the lab are not known and validated by PMXP/CEB)
At this technical audit, the supplier shall:
 Present the product and process FMECA.
 Present the monitoring plans.
 Fill out the questionnaire MXP_CEB07_0588.

Vehicle Standards B13 1520

 Present the defects manual of the Laser bands.

 Define the programming mode used for the on line sensors.
 Establish the detectability level of the defects in this standard.
2) A technical validation of the butt welded blanks.
The inspection of the criteria in B13 1520 is the supplier's responsibility. the tests shall be performed according
to D15 5525 The results shall be presented in an inspection report and sent to PMXP/CEB. If the supplier's laboratory
is not authorized to perform the tests according to this standard, he can sub-contract to PMXP/CEB or to any other
authorized laboratory to perform these tests.
3) An industrial validation with works quality management (EI).

6 Recall/Rework
In case of detected non-conformity, the recall or rework operations are formally prohibited.
