The United Nations (UN) has six main organs. Five of them the General Assembly, the Security
Council, the Economic and Social Council, the Trusteeship Council and the Secretariat are based at

The Assembly has the authority to make recommendations to States on international issues within its
jurisdiction. It has also initiated actions – political, economic, humanitarian, social, and legal – that have
improved the lives of millions of people worldwide. The landmark Millennium Declaration, adopted in

goals such as achieving peace, security, and disarmament, as well as development and poverty
eradication; safeguarding human rights and promoting the rule of law; protecting our common
environment; meeting Africa's special needs; and strengthening the United Nations. In September 2015,
the Assembly agreed on a set of 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which were included in the United

Brainstorm a solution on one of the Global Challenges. You may only choose one challenge and provide
a solution.

Concerning issues caused by mankind: while mankind has the ability to change the planet, the majority
of humanity is still in the primitive stage of only seeing and caring for their own needs and those of their
relatives on a relatively short term basis (their own lifespan and maybe that of their children). The
Ocean Cleanup Machine is a solution to this problem because it cleans up the small particles that plastic
degrades into over time. (Problem: The small plastic particles will eventually be consumed by smaller
organisms and make their way up the food chain.)
