Justification essay

The author if given a choice would choose the the riverside life satisfication scale (RLSS). RLSS is a scale
used to measure satisfication of life developed Margolis, Schwitzgebel, Ozer & Lyubomirsky in the year 2018.
SWLS is a 6 item scale that uses the 7 point likert-scale for its answer options. It has no cutting score meaning its
scoring is open to interpretation. The construct validity of the RLSS by correlating it with associated constructs
and its reliability was 0.93 and test–retest correlation over a 2-week period range from 0.87 to 0.92 meaning its
validity depends on circumstances and it has perfect reliability. It scoring is interpreted as the higher score
indicates the greater someone is satisfied with their life.

The first reason why the author chooses the riverside life satisfication scale (RLSS) is because it doesn’t
have a cutting scores in its questionnaires. This allows the author for self-interpretation unlike the satisfication
with life scale that does have a cutting score. Secondly, the Riverside life satisfication scale (RLSS) has more items
when compared to the satisfication with life scale (SWLS). Hence, it is more complex and requires more time to
answer giving the author a chance to better know himself. Thirdly, the riverside life satisfication scale(RLSS) has a
higher reliability coefficient than satisfication with life scale (SWLS) meaning it is more suitable for being used as a
test. Lastly, the Riverside life satisfication scale (RLSS) is a new and improved version of the old SWLS instrument
and it is proven by the fact that it has a higher reliability score compared to SWLS making it more suitable for
future life satisfication related studies. Based on all the points given the author wisely chooses the riverside life
satisfication scale (RLSS) because it is open for interpretation, more item options, higher reliability and is the new
and improved version of the old life satisfication scale.
