1. DESCRIPTION
1.1 Description of the system
The purpose of the bow loading arrangement is to handle crude oil transfer risers from:
1) A submerged Offshore Loading System (OLS or SAL) at a rate of 8300 m’/h.
2) An Articulated Loading Platform (ALP)
3) Other vessels like Storage Vessel and Production/Storage vessel.
The system is able to handle axial loads up to 125 tonnes without limitation in the
incoming riser/hose angle. The crude cil coupler does not transfer bending moments in
the riser or hose and an accurate tension measuring system shall be arranged. Further
ALP (or SPM) mooring is designed for hawser loads up to 500 tonnes.
To cover the different loading systems, the bow coupler can rotate 35° in each direction
around the ship’s horizontal axis, 60° outwards from the ship’s vertical axis and 40°
inwards from the ship’s vertical axis (stowed position).

1.1.2. Bow loading arrangement
The dry break-coupling unit comprises two (2) main elements:
~ Hose termination piece (not part of the shuttle tanker equipment).
- "Moment free" bow loading coupler with ship valve.
The bow loading coupler is located in the centre line of the ship.
The coupler valve is connected to a 20" cardan suspension support by one (1) bearing
and a swivel connection to the fixed piping distribution system onboard. The bow loading
Coupler shall be rotated into stowed position by means of hydraulic cylinders.
On the platform deck , in the centre line, the adjustable roller fairlead and the chain
stopper are situated together with a double drum traction winch and a power sheave unit
for mooring purposes.
The chain stopper is a hydraulically operated, self-locking type with possibilty of being
released under full design load. Mooring loads are continuously read and recorded on a
builtin load cell. This load cell is connected to an electronic datalogger for tape recording
of the signals. A weak-link is placed in the chafing chain in order to avoid excessive
mooring loads to be transferred to the loading terminal. A guide roller with load cell is
placed aft of the chain stopper, and in front of the traction winch.
‘The “moment free” loading manifold with coupler and hydr. system, the hose winch for
handling purposes of the hose during the connection phase when loading from the buoys
(not underwater solutions) and the local contro! console together with valves for bow deor
are located on the forecastle deck.

1.2 Description of the hydraulic system
> Ref. drawing 192942, vol. 2 chapter 17 "Hydraulic system’.
The system is feeded from the pump station, which has a delivery of 390 min at 250 bar.
The oil to all the valve units, except the control units for the winches, is passing through a
pressure filter. The pump station has also full flow return filter,
1.2.1 Traction Winch
> Ref. drawing 111397, vol, 2, chapter 4
> Ref. drawing 192942., vol. 2 chapter 17 "Hydraulic system*.
The winch is equipped with hydraulic motors of make STAFFA. The motors are 2-speed
motors which on application of an external pressure signal will change smoothly between
three preset displacements even under full load and speed. When changing from high
displacement to low displacement the speed is stepless variable within the three speed
ranges
* Acontrol valve unit controls the winch. This unit consists of a flow control valve, a
directional valve, a counter balance valve and a pressure control valve.
* The flow control valve controls the maximum motor rotation
* The directional valve controls heave, lower and speed from min. to max.
* The counter balance vaive is to prevent the load to overspeed the motors at
lowering, and the pressure control valve is to secure the motors against overload.
The winch is remote conirolled.
The 450 HW drives a twin drum unit 140 TUL. Betweon these units there is a clutch which
is remotely operated. The disc brake on the drum unit is spring set and will be released by
hydraulic pressure from a proportional pressure-reducing valve, which is electrically
controlled. In addition a hand pump is fitted for emergency and maintenance use.
In case of emergency release in OLS mode the brake is controlled with oil from chain
stopper accumulator either in auto via valve pos. 215 or electro-hydraulic via valve 254,

> Ref. drawing 192942., vol. 2 chapter 17 "Hydraulic system".
The winch is equipped with a hydraulic motor of make STAFFA.
This is a 1-speed motor.
The winch is controlled by a control valve unit.
This unit consists of a flow control valve, directional valve, counterbalance valve, brake
valve and pressure control valve.
‘* The flow control valve controls the maximum motor rotation.
+ The directional valve controls heave, lower and speed from min. to max.
* The counter balance valve is to prevent the load to overspeed the motor at
lowering
* The pressure control valve is to secure the motor against overload.
The winch is remote controlled from "Local control console".
1.2.3 Power Sheave Unit, PSU
> — Ref. drawing 213365, vol. 2, chapter 5.
> — Ref. drawing 192942, vol. 2 chapter 17 "Hydraulic system"
‘The power sheave unit is remote controlled from the traction winch main valve unit. It is
Controlled in heave position when the traction winch is in paying-out position.
The power sheave unit also has a possibility of manual control from the unit side. This is
meant for spooling operation or changing rope etc. Paying out can only be performed
when, the ball valve pos. 270 is closed.
During emergency release in OLS mode the power sheave unit is powered from the chain
stopper accumulator. The pressure from valve 238 is reduced through valve 239 (located
on valve unit skid), operates valve pos 264 and then make a small circuit, where valve pos
265 will control the pay out tension.
Pressure setting for valve pos 265 is 30 bar.

1.2.4 Adjustable Roller Fairlead , 500 ARF
> Ref. drawing111396, vol. 2 chapter 1
> Ref. drawing 192942, vol. 2 chapter 17 "Hydraulic system"
The adjustable roller fairiead is operated trom the local control console (RCPH/E).
The directional valve, pos 312 controls the movements, the counter balance valve,
Pos 310 is to hold it in position and the pressure relief valve is to secure the cylinder
against overload.
1.2.5 Valve Unit Skid
— Ref. Drawings 192942 and 192897 vol. 2 chapter 17 "Hydraulic system’,
The chain stopper cylinders are operated by the solenoid valve pos 233, which are
controlled from the control in wheelhouse panel. When closing the stopper the oil flow is
led through the pressure reduction vaive pos. 230. (Pressure setting 45 bar.)
The check valve pos 231 prevent the oil retum to tank during operation of emergency
accumulator release.
Emergency release of the chain stopper is done by the solenoid valve pos 232, which is
Controlled from the control panel. If the valve post 232 fails, the chain stopper can be
released by means of the manual operated ball valve pos 245. (drawing 192949), This
valve is located in the "Ball valve cabinet" and may also be activated from wheelhouse
control panel (activates valve pos. 250).
Valve pos. 245 is a pressure relief valve for the accumulator. Pressure setting is 260 bar.
Check valve pos 236 in the charging line prevent oil flowing back to the tank when the
pumpstation is stopped. The nozzle is to achieve a smooth charging of the accumulator.
Pressure transmitter pos. 291 activates the power to charge the accumulator when the
pressure drops to 215 bar and cut off at 240 bar.
The accumulator is preloaded with nitrogen gas to 80 bar.

1.2.6 Coupler , Coupler Valve and Inboard Valve
Ref. drawing 192949 vol. 2 chapter 17 "Hydraulic system drawing’.
The oil enter through "P*. A non-return valve pos.210 keeps the oil from retuming into the
supply line when releasing accumulator pos.244.
The accumulator will automatically be charged through vaive pos 205 and a restrictor
when the pump is running.
‘The coupler claws are activated by the solenoid valve pos. 201 in drawing 192949.
The coupler claws is equipped with a interlock in the control system. This is to prevent any
manual opening of the coupler claws during loading.
The working pressure for the coupler and the coupler valve is reduced to 220 bar by the
pressure reducing valve pos. 206. The coupler vaive is controlled by solenoid vaive pos.
216. When this valve is deactivated the coupler valve is closed. The inboard valve is
controlled by the solenoid valve pos. 217. Closing time is controlled by pos. 218.
Deactivated valve makes inboard valve closed.
Pressure transmitter pos. 236 activates the powerpack to charge the accumulator pos.
244 when the pressure drops to 200 bar and cut off at 240 bar. Alarm is at 180 bar.
The pressure setting for relief valve pos. 213 for the accumulator is 260 bar. Opening
valve pos 225 can drain the accumulator, The accumulator is loaded with nitrogen gas to
80 bar. During loading it is necessary to maintain a positive pressure on the closing side of
the claw cylinders and the opening side of the coupler valve cylinder. This is kept by the
accumulator pos. 243. When operating the push-button for opening inboard valve, the
solenoid valve pos. 202 is also activated. This opens for accumulator pressure to the claw
cylinders and the coupler vaive cylinder.
The pressure transmitter pos. 234 activate the power pack to charge the accumulator pos.
243 when the pressure drops to 180 bar and cut off at 210 bar. Low-pressure alarm at 170
bar. The accumulator is preloaded with nitrogen gas to 80 bar. Opening valve pos 224 can
drain the accumulator.
In a situation where "Emergency release" is wanted the solenoid valves pos. 202, 216 and
217 are deactivated and pos 208 is activated. When signal is given for coupler valve
closed, the valve pos 201 is activated. This will release the coupler claws.
The coupler claws can also be released by manual operating of the valves pos. 246, 247
and 248. These valves are located in "Ball valve cabinet." in addition there is a possibility
for manual release from bridge, by electro-hydraulic valves pos 250-254.
